Dropped things a lot

Ah! Strong biceps a plus point then for being lawyerly
that’s not a barrier at all eh

What did lawyers do before trolley bags?

Expected their junior to carry the files - even if they were a 6 ft rugby player and the junior was 4ft 8 and weedy (and tottering around in high heels).

Respondent's barrister Sean Doherty

'What's the worst job you ever had?'

ProfessorMyrtleLion · 17/11/2025 15:15

From NW

It's a legal "real possibility" of apparent bias and if there was doubt is should be resolved in favour of recusal.

J - tribunals are creatures of statute. We need a J a rep of C and a rep of R. The idea is it will lead to a balanced outcome for all parties.

MM was no an employee of a central whitley council. He was employed by NI civil service. He was seconded to whitely council. His salary was at all times paid by the civil service. He was a member of NIPSA..

What did lawyers do before trolley bags?

They had a train of juniors and pupils, each carrying two of those ENORMOUS square briefcases.

ickky · 17/11/2025 15:16

I think the Judge is going to refuse the recuse.

ProfessorEmeritusVeraAtkins · 17/11/2025 15:16

Is that appeal fodder?

Oh no that’s an even worse answer!

Which, bizarrely, were called pilot's bags.

ProfessorMyrtleLion · 17/11/2025 15:17

I made a mistake (it happens occasionally).

MM was an elected member of the Union so bound by and responsible for the policies.

I hadn't realised he wasn't a union staff member.

ProfessorMyrtleLion · 17/11/2025 15:17

From NW

... and individuals are free to take whatever view they like, they don't have to be the same as NIPSAs.
NIPSA policy will be made by LGBTQ subcommittee which MM has never been part of. He's never done any work in this area. He has never been involved in any campaigning.

Junior barristers don't have a junior, so the solicitor had to do it

ProfMummBRaaarrrTheEverLeaking · 17/11/2025 15:18

I is now a most distinguished learned Professor also, woohoo!

How come I get the feeling that the recusal won't be granted. NW reporting of judges remarks not looking great so far...

Even though they prefer paper files and bundles, there must still be quite a saving from having wider info available via electronic device. They must have surely needed giant left luggage rooms in courts to house all the cases in the previous times?!

ProfessorTRex · 17/11/2025 15:18

ickky · 17/11/2025 15:16

I think the Judge is going to refuse the recuse.

Agree, looks like it's going that way. So a possible grounds for appeal if more info continues to come out.

thewaythatyoudoit · 17/11/2025 15:17

They dumped them on a pupil.

ProfLargofesse · 17/11/2025 15:19

I'm noting that the EJ is working harder to appear to be treating the material fairly and going through all the elements which she did not do on Friday.

thewaythatyoudoit · 17/11/2025 15:20

LondonProfessor66 · 17/11/2025 15:18

They dumped them on a pupil.

The very junior ones wouldn't have a pupil either. All parties turned up dishevelled and hot

ProfessorFanOfBen · 17/11/2025 15:20

But back we go to Michele Devlin...

ickky · 17/11/2025 15:20

Now going to continue with MD cross exam.

ProfessorIDareSay · 17/11/2025 15:20

I recall seeing juniors in big trials trailing behind barristers with file boxes piled on a trolley, like those trolleys removal men use to shift heavy furniture.

ProfessorBoiledbeetle · 17/11/2025 15:20

Well this is going to be fun going forward!!

NebulousProfessorSupportPostcard · 17/11/2025 15:20

Ok so they have fired warning shots and laid a path for any appeal I guess.
