See https://www.etsy.com/listing/1858479662/die-mad-terfs-trans-inclusive-mug

I thought this must be a wind up in a Daily Express article but turns out to be true.

Other items include lawn signs reading “In this house we don’t mourn dead transphobes”

Mims Davies MP, the Shadow Women’s Minister, said: “My actual first thought was who actually relaxes with a cup of tea with a death threat on to women?

“This is appalling and, once the item is quickly removed from sale, serious questions need to be asked.”

Fury as Etsy sells ‘Die Mad Terfs’ mug branded death threat

Etsy faces backlash over a £16 mug with the slogan ‘Die Mad Terfs', branded a "death threat to women" by MP demanding its removal.

that was unnecessary, @Namelessnelly and i am going to report you to MN and have your dangerous rhetoric banned

no. Asti Spumante is simply A Step To Far.

Whatever next? that 80s favourite, Lambrusco?

wwweellllll... Lambrusco is going through a revival too!

It is awesome with spicy Chinese dishes.... and good even with just some good Parma ham.

Never say never, Bref. You might find the perfect combo and suddenly it will all fall into place.

i do like a good Cava to be honest.

My current tipple is the apparently hugely trendy but unknown to me: Sherry and tonic. Yum.

Have you tried White Port and tonic with a squidge of lime?

your licence to write any German is revoked.

Mad in German is also Mad in common parlance. See also verrückt. It is spelled without an e, and is never "pluralised" like that.
You can add an S to foreign "words" to make a plural if you like. Plural of TERF is TERFs.

So you can have:
Die mad TERF (singular)
or
Die mad TERFs (plural)

Your adjectives need case agreements

Anyone else remember Mateus Rose and those distinctive bottles? It was the height of sophistication back in the day.

Yes!

And in the spirit of the thread, what about Sekt? I used to love those small bottles of it when on German holidays. So when I dashed into a corner shop for a bottle of Prosecco recently and saw a full-sized bottle labelled Sekt, I bought it.

Got to the party and the wine was RED (and horrid). Is this really a thing in Germany?

Oh yes. Apparently you can only be a woman if you cry a lot, be gentle, nurturing and kind and follow all the feminine gender stereotypes. It’s why we know males with a trans identity aren’t women, because they’re the ones issuing death and rape threats. If they were truly women, surely they’d be gentle and kind and too busy sobbing into their tissues to attack women?

Fair

i will break it to him later after he finishes cleaning the bathrooms

Haven't yet but I will. One of my favourites is dry gin, dry sherry and lemonade.

they are in the nominative. No case agreement there.

If it is a white port and tonic - then Brie / Camembert type cheeses.
If it served straight, and chilled after a meal like a dessert white wine - it will go with blue cheeses.

I am a fan of white port....

There is for adjectives. Maybe not for mad used as an anglicism, but there would be for verrückt, it would have an e in the feminine nominative and an en in the plural with a definite article.

But we digress.

I make my own version of Baileys. I'm now rather inspired to experiment about with flavours this year....

Oh, sounds divine! Would you have a recipe you could share? 😉

Yes indeed we digress - but from a digression, which was itself a digression, so digress away, to your heart's content, it's all goodSmile

Digressives are actually my favourite biscuit.

Beowulfa · 05/11/2025 14:23

Somebody has been inspired; the woman behind me at the supermarket checkout earlier was buying two bottles of Baileys (nothing else). Bloke in front bought 5 jars of pickled beetroot (nothing else). My shop felt really normal.

lcakethereforeIam · 05/11/2025 14:29

Mateus bottles were usually the ones that held the candles in Italian restaurants, often heavily dripped with wax.

Do you mean the old Chianti bottles that have the bottom half covered in straw?

Or after those ran out, did Italian restaurants get the Mateus bottles (Mateus rose is a Portuguese wine) in to replace those straw covered bottles?
