A 17 year old committed suicide and this is his response. Does this sit right with you?

Glimmer: do you think this is acceptable?
OP posts:
NuffSaidSam · 13/10/2025 21:45

I don't like it. I don't think it's helpful.

What do you mean by 'acceptable'? That's trickier to pin down.

daisyasaurus · 13/10/2025 21:46

Boy's suicide FFS

What do you expect from Penis News I guess.

Jesus. You’re really picking this fight over someone’s suicide? How utterly shameful.

ladygindiva · 13/10/2025 21:51

Yeah, I'm what's called a terf I guess, but that is disrespectful and plain wrong by glinner.

MarieDeGournay · 13/10/2025 21:54

A young man who is in such a disturbed state of mind that they take their own life is clearly in no position to make a rational decision to undergo life-altering treatment.
It is such a tragedy that this young man was somehow convinced that his future as he was, a man, was unliveable. RIP.

Children and young people who are so seriously at odds with the realities of their own bodies need help and support to accept and love themselves as they are.

OuterSpaceCadet · 13/10/2025 21:55

It's in quotation marks.

He's paraphrasing the Prick News article.

The offensive material is contained within the Prick News article.

Kuretake · 13/10/2025 21:59

It's disgusting he should be ashamed of himself.

NotBadConsidering · 13/10/2025 22:00

Isn’t Glimmer one of the baddies in The Hunger Games?

Besides that error, what’s wrong with it? He’s pointing out the absurdity of the claim this tragic young man’s mental health would have been somehow improved by quicker access to mutilating surgeries.

What is unacceptable is the perpetual push of the lie that suicide is preventable by accessing hormones and surgeries.

TempestTost · 13/10/2025 22:03

it's stark, and I think his point is solid, but no, I don't think it was a great idea to post it.

Although arguably, it's not a conversation with his parents or in his community, it's part of an online discourse, and maybe that is the place for some stark statements.

All of this!

JellySaurus · 13/10/2025 22:06

Prick News are implying that the boy would not have committed suicide had the NHS been in more of a hurry to emasculate him.

Glinner is right to point that out. You may not like the language or the style he has chosen to use. You don’t have to. But sometimes the truth is harsh, no matter how you state it.

Dollymylove · 13/10/2025 22:17

Its no worse than the unending stream of horse shit that comes from the "other side"

The ‘other’ side say disgusting things so we can too?

He's not saying it though. He's paraphrasing what Pink News said. Surely this is obvious?

If you think that is a reasonable way to paraphrase the article you might need help

Welcome To Mumsnet OP. If you’re going to post something goady for the first time, please get the names right and your comprehension accurate.

StrictlySequinsandStiIettos · 13/10/2025 22:29

No, it's wholly unacceptable and is separate from the article. I don't understand why anyone would think that comment was fit to stand when a young person's dead and a mum's grief will be palpable and raw. Not sure how that comment will bring her anything but pain.

SundayAfternoonTea · 13/10/2025 22:30

Glinner deleted this post soon after posting.

Alpacajigsaw · 13/10/2025 22:33

If you’re going to police what other people say OP, you should be aware that “committed suicide” is no longer acceptable terminology. The phrasing should be “died by suicide” or “took their own life”.

selffellatingouroborosofhate · 13/10/2025 22:33

Here's the Penis News article, to give context. archive.is/eOYiU

I don't consider it appropriate to expect people to judge someone by out-of-context quotes.

SundayAfternoonTea · 13/10/2025 22:36

@SpryReader why do you think it's acceptable to repost something about a girls' suicide that the poster themselves decided to delete?

What if one of the girls' friends or family saw this on here?

I don't like Glinner but at least he deleted it. Unlike you who is reposting it to make a point without context.

To be honest I'm not convinced the original Pink News title is responsible either.

QueenClinomania · 13/10/2025 22:38

He is a nasty piece of work generally and I am suspicious of his motivations for trying to make himself some sort of gc women's champion.

You’ve only just realised he was paraphrasing the PN article haven’t you…?

Lilington · 13/10/2025 22:42

I would read that as him attacking those who encourage mutilation not the boy himself and it is trans activists themselves who use the concept of children and young people dying to promote their agenda.

But after someone has died best to say very little.

SundayAfternoonTea · 13/10/2025 22:43

Looked up the full section of the coroner's prevention of future deaths report here we go - as usual warning. Like I said the Pink News article heading was misleading and inappropriate - it's using this girl.

Like mainly who die by suicide she had low mood but it does not seem was investigated for depression. She was also incited to suicide. All these factors were important and should be respected and honoured.

It was preventable - at the very least Leia should have been supported by her GP or CAMHS whilst waiting. I read all too many deaths by suicide like this. Anyway RIP Leia.

CIRCUMSTANCES OF THE DEATH - from prevention of deaths report.

Leia was 17 years old at the time she died a beautiful person inside and out, complex, kind, fair, intelligent, determined, dedicated and talented with a great future ahead of her and greatly loved by all who knew her. Having to battle with changes to her body without receiving the necessary preventative treatment together with the many hurdles and setbacks gradually eroded her belief that she would succeed and everything would be alright. In time this was replaced with increasing thoughts that it could not be fixed and all hope began to fade. Leia reported intermittent low mood in 2024 which may have been a sign of a more serious underlying depressive illness and gender dysphoria which itself can contribute to low mood and be a symptom of a more serious mental health condition. The waiting lists for treatment were far too long and the circumstances therefore led to Leia being without treatment. Leia experienced hostility from certain sections of the community and links on social media inciting those like Leia to suicide. where she jumped [REDACTED] Leia was taken to hospital where despite treatment she died later the same day.
