Waterside Arts Centre Sale clearly ignoring Supreme Court

i was at the Waterside last night with my partner. The Women’s was marked “women’s” but then written on the door in large letters was something to the effect of please feel free to use whichever facilities” match your gender identity or gender expression “. Mentioned it to my partner who said the same was on the door to the men’s ( he said someone asked a friend what that meant and the reply was apparently” some modern bollocks” - hard to argue!)

I rather feel I should email them and point out that this is not right- anyone got suggestions for wording that doesn’t just make me sound bigoted!?

thanks

Who is going to pay for the lawsuit ?

  1. The OP can apply to JKR's fund set up to help fight gender ideology.
  2. She can run a crowdfunder, I'm sure everyone will be happy to do some gardening for the cause.

If you need to rely on the kindness of strangers to enforce your rights, then they are hardly rights, are they ? Just nice things for rich people.

All very well banging on about "the law", but the reality is for many people it makes fuck all difference in their daily lives.

Yes, it's very much a problem that so many organisations have been so captured that women are in a position where we have to fight for the most basic single sex provisions. I don't think you'll get much argument there! But that's societal sexism for you.

Jallypally · 07/10/2025 10:10

No, I can’t think of any wording that won’t seem bigoted. If you’re a bigot, why not just “own it” instead of trying to think of ways of gaslighting people that you’re not one?

The law is the law and the Waterside Arts Centre needs a lesson in protecting women and girls. The only way to make these woke organisations understand is to hit them where it hurts - in the pocket.

How about what I said?
The signage on your toilet doors breaks the law. When are you going to comply?’

Show me a bigoted opinion in those sentences?

Redshoeblueshoe · 07/10/2025 11:24

OK I'll bite. Yes I'm a bigot for not wanting MEN in the women's toilets. My GD has been to Sale Waterside with her junior school. I would not be happy for her to be sharing the toilets with boys and men. She also said the show was rubbish - so I doubt she'd be keen to go again

The law is not bigoted. There are good reasons why we have separate male and female facilities. Those reasons apply to transwomen as equally as they do other males.

Companies need to be following the law.

You're essentially saying here that safeguarding is bigoted. Is that what you meant to imply? Because it's the opinion of an abuser or an enabler of abuse.

Jallypally · 07/10/2025 14:24

There you go - that’s how to show bigotry. By accusing everyone who refuses to join in the visceral hatred of trans people of being abusers.

FortheloveofPetethePlumber · 07/10/2025 14:27

Not agreeing as a woman to get your kit off for a man because to not unconditionally pretend for him he isn't a man is 'bigoted'.

Yes. Absolutely. And lawnmowers from the planet Zargh are small teapots who run the civil service, and I'm King Canute.

FortheloveofPetethePlumber · 07/10/2025 14:31

If you participate in dismantling safeguarding then yes, you're going to have to take responsibility for it.

The consenting women are in the mixed sex spaces taking their clothes off. There is no need to compel the involvement of non consenting women or children, and the motives of anyone doing so are not innocent.

fine words.

But who will enforce them ?

FortheloveofPetethePlumber · 07/10/2025 15:22

Who enforces not mugging people in the street? Burglary? Speeding?

If you're saying that people will not respect the law then obviously penalties will have to be brought in, won't they? And breaking it will have to be made unpleasant enough to motivate those incapable of respecting others' rights by themselves.

Because you cannot just expect that people can't be buggered to let women have rights, and hope that society decides next that Jewish people, black people, gay people, trans people etc aren't entitled to their legal protections. Fgs. I know TRAs want an end to police, prisons, sanity, stuff like that, but really....

Generally the police.

So what you are saying is the police need to be called here, and it ill all be sorted.

Glad to have cleared that up. What a ninny I can be at times !

Justme56 · 07/10/2025 16:11

I’d imagine it’s more along the lines of asking someone to leave, banning them from the place or even calling the police if they refuse. If a service provider discriminates on the basis of sex (whether it be toilet provision or something else), the user can take legal action through the county court. Hope that helps.

All of that wiffle waffle and you have not once considered or mentioned that women can have feelings of comfort and discomfort too, which is why we have single sex facilities in certain types of circumstance.

A better solution to pretending that women don't exist as a distinct social grouping with human rights and dignity would be to install what an arts venue in my city has done.....which is to create an additional 'gender neutral' facility for those that don't feel comfortable with using the facilities for their sex, This works perfectly well and meets everyone's needs for dignity and privacy.

What you are calling 'segregation' exists for the benefit of female people in circumstances in which the body and/or its biological function is paramount. Sex is real. No such thing as 'non binary'.

Glyndebourne went down this route. Guess what they did. Converted a ladies loos to unisex which doesn't meet the building regs - the cubicles are not enclosed and the washbasins are in the main area not the cubicles. They are disgusting - wet floors and water splashed around the handbasins. Given its a venue where women often wear long dresses and carry clutch bags it means that what they've actually done is given a whole extra loo to the men (who didn't have to queue in the first place). When I complained I got a whole load of waffle.

Nah dude.

No hate for trans people as a class.

Plenty of condemnation for abusive, boundary violating males and their enablers.

I accuse you of enabling abuse because you are advocating for safeguarding to be dismantled.

By smearing legitimate concern as bigotry against trans people, you imply that violating the boundaries of others is inherent to a trans identity. That's actually transphobic, so I'll accuse you of that too while we're here.
