JKR accused of 'quoting hitler'

Within the context of condemning political violence following the murder of Charlie Kirk, she quoted on X a line from Mein Kampf where Hitler talked about how he utilised political violence for his own gain. This was a clear statement in how allowing for political violence against one's rivals can lead to that in power manipulating things in order to harm others.

Unfortunately, articles are springing up across the internet shaming JKR for quoting or referring to this text at all, with many condemning her for 'nazi' views and accusing her of being far right.

(Personally I love JK, and it is such a shame that every single thing she says is twisted to mean the opposite of what she's actually saying!)

Wasn’t she actually using the quote to suggest that anyone advocating violence is similar to Hitler? She was hardly endorsing it — the very reverse!

The logic goes "I want JK Rowling to shut up and go away and I want everyone to hate her like I do and I'll spend hours finding ways to misread what she says to prove she is a bad person. A Facebook friend recently started a rant about 'thick bastards', too stupid to write their own name' etc because they have differing political viewpoints to her. She ranted at anyone who tried to offer her an alternative viewpoint. This I feel is the same as those advise trans rights over women's rights. It's like they feel morally superior because 'be kind' bullshit.

JKR has done a Holocaust minimisation by quoting Mein Kampf by Hitler just to tweet a basic moral comment that murder is wrong no matter how awful you may think a person’s opinions are.

Keep in mind, Mein Kampf (My Battle) isn’t wholly a memoir. The part she quoted, he wasn’t writing about how he used political violence for his own gain, he was writing his plan for success.- “'The very first essential for success is a perpetually constant and regular employment of violence."

Chillingly, Hitler defined success as a Germany rid of Jews (Judenrein), because he thought Jews were subhumans.

She has literally compared the murderer of a minor political activist to Hitler himself, and the plan for this murder to Hilter’s plan for the genocide of millions of Jewish people. Both plans ‘succeeded.’

I should not need to say that this is Holocaust minimisation and JKR should receive a lot of flak for this.

The memory of the Holocaust isn’t to be appropriated like that to shock jock a public controversy so you get those tons of views and upvotes on X (which can be monetised - not that she needs more money).

“Ad hominem” is US high school debate class talk. You’re written an extremely silly post and you really do need to go and inform yourself a bit better. Your posts show you’ve misread the tweet entirely, so you really should be working that rather than poorly written posts which betray a rather woeful lack of information about fascism, Hitler and the Holocaust as well.

Again, anyone with half a brain can make the exact same point about fascism & violence without directly quoting Hitler’s plan for success to create a Judenrein from his book, Mein Kampf.

Plenty of fascists to choose from, American ones even that would be more apropos to the murder being commented upon.

Can you tell me who are these American Fascists you speak of? The whole point is that Fascism is Hitler (and Mussolini). It isn’t just a general name for “right wing things I don’t like”, or “Christian fundamentalism in the US”, or “Trumpites” or whatever. It’s a very specific ideology from early twentieth century Europe.

The quotations I have used are for JKR’s line showing she was not “condemning Hitler” as was claimed.

The context of the quote is Hitler advocating violence again political opponents, specifically violence meted out by the early Nazi Party against Marxist groups.

Quoting historical evildoers to warn against similar tactics being used by others in the present day isn't minimising anything.

It actually predates 20th c. Europe and is not singular to Europe. The Early 20th c in Europe saw a rise in a fascism, not the invention of it.

But that IS Fascism. That’s the point. She is also saying that people who shoot “fascist” don’t actually know what Fascism is and that should go and READ what it actually is, not just shit a word they’ve poorly understood. And the link to the Holocaust isn’t “minimisation” — it’s the whole point. The Holocaust was the end goal of Fascism. She’s asking you to acknowledge that the Holocaust is where glorifying political violence ends up.

Two wrongs do not make it right. Her point has been made for her beautifully without quoting Mein Kampf by a pp.

Again, the context of the quote is his plan for future success.

You are conflating Nazism with Fascism. Nazism was one of many fascist regimes, each with different goals.
