Posting upton’s old photos and name on twitter

Look I’ve been in these discussions since before this forum existed. You don’t need to break it down for me. I peaked in 2018.

But the endless sharing of upton’s name accompanied by photos and horrible comments about him and his wife is not nice. It is totally is transphobia. It’s horrible.

I could kind of understand the point of it, if it was just the name being shared.

But equally the court has ruled that Upton has a right to privacy. I thought it was all about respecting court’s rulings?

but the sharing of private photos (presumably grabbed from social media) and especially their wedding photo with insults to both of them and speculation about their marriage is awful and will not help their be a resolution to this debate. It polarises it even more and is transphobia.

fair enough, don’t let Upton change the rules of the country and workplace based on personal beliefs . But that doesn’t involve posting personal information and photos , insults and horrible speculation.

or are we just going low now?

If you came to this board with any intention of having positive engagement you would not have posted this:

Clearly 'you can't always tell' given harassment of CIS women who don't appear 'sufficiently feminine' is on the rise as a consequence of anti trans hysteria. Seems the private spaces for women cause has been more counterproductive to their safety.

Therefore unless a person is being abusive might be more productive to mind one's own stereotypes.

With a link to Vox with anecdotes (remember how many times you have since tried to discred others posting anecdotes- should we mirror back your bullying comments? ) that politically weaponises female people’s experiences against female people’s needs for single sex provisions.

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womensrights/5397900-what-would-you-actually-do-if-you-saw-a-transperson-in-the-wrong-toiletchanging-room-for-their-sex?page=38&reply=146680515

You can continue to post your links of disengagement all you like. But readers will just see your lack of contribution rather than getting to understand your opinion. But I guess we should have just taken note of this first post because it laid out your intentions clearly.

Lesson learned. Plus ca change.

hmmmm, I hope a perfectly respectable, widely used, Irish colloquial term has not been zapped, because that would seem like anti-Irish bigotry.

I think that some people have recently learned about common fallacies (possibly by reading responses on MN) but don’t yet properly understand them.

DeanElderberry · 04/09/2025 12:40

The internet must have a specialised 'every boys guide to how to argue with women' corner, with lots of handy links. It can't counter actual rational thought,

Yes... There is a disconnect really. Um... no.. it is not a straw man argument to point out that posting links with no engagement is not contributing positively towards discussion and using the first post on the board as an example of what could only be considered prejudiced, misinformed and not about positive engagement. Maybe they meant to post something else?

Either way, the posting links from this poster have rarely, if ever, actually shown what they are trying to support despite the ego centric offerings so it is par for the course. But then if going through the links pointing out how it doesn't support what they want it to support stops the other flow of fuckwittery, then so be it. I will consider it time well spent.

I have just had to remind myself that some people will post word salad when asked to present a thoughtful argument because if they write something impenetrable in the language they use, like Butler writes, then people will just think it is intellectual and not challenge it.

I don't know what happened with the formatting there, but I like the quote text!

So did I. 😁

Sometimes it's worth combing through the word salad for the lols, though. There was a windbag the other night who actually used the phrase "I will show you, and anyone else foolish enough to cross me", apparently without irony, and I'm still laughing at that one.

Did anyone else grow up reading the Annotated Alice by Carroll and Gardner?

I loved that so much.

Posting links and typing the one liner like 'false', 'comprehension fail', stuff about anecdotes not being good enough evidence (while continuing to post anecdotes as evidence and the hypocrisy of that never registering' also reminds me of extreme trans activists drowning out women's voices at rallies.

It is all just so that a man doesn't have to hear an opinion from a woman that they don't like, or to hear women say clearly 'no' while explaining clearly why.

Agree.

It is very interesting also that here is someone who obviously doesn’t engage with what is posted, either by others or themselves. It is remarkable. Because all this fuckwittery in posting one liners over and over, repeatedly declaring fallacies, and posting the evidence which isn’t supporting when it is analysed is indicative of someone not confident in defending their opinions and over confident that they are right. It is like someone has read other people’s opinion and taken it for their own so they feel righteous but have no clear thoughts of their own to explain why.

Meaning the entire discussion becomes a disjointed mess of false interpretations bearing little resemblance to reality.

It is shown by the constant reference to opinion pieces. Such as that flawed as fuck williams institute opinion piece and the 2016 Vox article and that overconfident reliance on Allslop who in turn relied on Gellman. Then this opinion piece on JK Rowling.

The same links over and over without engagement with the links. It all points to someone who hides behind other people’s opinions who doesn’t bother to interrogate that opinion or the data that opinion is based on.

As you say, if this is the standard of discussion by someone who thinks they are so knowledgeable on this topic, they really are showing they have nothing but misinformation, theories that are not based in reality and emotionally manipulative, bullying, tactics.
