I wonder if the penny is dropping with those that insisted Imane is female yet? So easy for it to be cleared up if Imane would just take the test.

It would indeed.

Now why would he not take the test straight away and be included in the upcoming event this week or next?

oh oh oh. I know. Because this test won’t change the previous results.

lcakethereforeIam · 02/09/2025 09:55

Certainly lays to rest any doubts that Khelif knows he's a bloke.

MorrisZapp · 02/09/2025 10:01

The BBC news had a good package last night on the boxer Joe Bugner, who has died. I was enjoying it until Steve Bunce popped up. 'Bunce! Legend!' said DP. I said no, he's a total c*. Had to google to check but my instincts were right. Bunce thought we were all being horrid because Khelif doesn't look pretty enough to match our standards.

Unredeemable.

There are still people arguing that the test is unethical and unnecessary because it discriminates against 'women' such as IK, who have naturally high testosterone and don't conform to western standards of beauty 🙄 These people will never admit that there is an issue with athletes with male dsds, who have male physiology, competing in the female category.

There is a conversation to be had around how the process should be handled sensitively regarding people's medical information. However, the aforementioned people are not interested in a sensible solution, because they are too wedded to gender ideology, and, for them, IK is a perfect illustration of how sex isn't a spectrum, biology is complicated, IK was 'born a woman' blah blah blah.

I noticed that. They seemed to go to great lengths to avoid them..."The Algerian", "The 26 year old" etc

And a balanced piece about Sandi Peggie yesterday. 🤔

He's suddenly looking like Putin's puppet, trying to uphold the bad Russian boxing federation test results.

I see Lin isn't competing either 😀

Gosh. What a big surprise 😱

outofdate · 02/09/2025 19:56

Fucking cheats the pair of them.

Heggettypeg · 02/09/2025 20:18

Passing a swab test has nothing to do with how pretty you look to other people, so it's an ideal way of ensuring that eligibility isn't influenced by standards of beauty. So long as everyone competing has to take one, it's completely fair.

I thought Lin was going to take the test. All mouth and no trousers?

Taiwan say the test results have been submitted but no response received from the boxing authorities. It will be interesting to see where this goes from here.

Helleofabore · 03/09/2025 14:00

Well, did Taiwan submit an entry or not?

I wonder what is happening there.

spannasaurus · 03/09/2025 14:16

From the channelnews article linked in pp

The appeal seeks to overturn the ruling and allow Khelif to compete at the world championships without having the test, the Court of Arbitration for Sport said, adding that it had dismissed her request to suspend the decision while the case is heard.

The request to suspend the decision pending the court case looks like a way for Khelif to be able to enter one last tournament before the game is up

But this is a better indication of the reality.

Aww, but giraffe canoodling!

(Apologies if someone else posted this. I couldn't get the original link to work for me, and discovered a WHOLE WORLD! of giraffe/basketball player interaction while still working through the thread.)

I love that giraffe/basketball players photos are a thing.

Boxing World Championships: French women's team barred over late sex tests - BBC Sport
It seems to be a genuine case of being disorganised rather than dodging the tests - probably...
As well as the entire French team, some boxers from other countries have also been banned - Fiji, the Philippines and the Dominican Republic, but it's not clear whether that's because the whole team's tests weren't done on time, individuals' tests.

The article says that the tests are banned in France, which is odd - they are just swab tests aren't they? so not physically intrusive. I wonder on what basis are they banned, e.g. that it's not acceptable to questions a person's sex?

murasaki · 04/09/2025 22:05

Probably, a lot of countries were having to come here for tests (presumably as World Boxing didn't trust some, and others won't permit it, like the French) and there seems to have been a cock up re timings, I got the impression the French had done them, but not got the results back yet.

MarieDeGournay · 05/09/2025 19:27

More about the missed deadline - they seem to have left it very late to get the tests done - in Leeds, for some reason.
World Boxing said 'all federations had been warned on 21 August that the processing of results for sex-testing can take 48 hours and that any tests completed later than 1 September "would jeopardise your athlete's entry into the official draw and competition".

21st August isn't long before the deadline. At the risk of appearing to be a wishy-washy lily-livered liberal, I think WB should extend the deadline for accepting test results, given that it is an entirely new system and some teams had to travel overseas to get the tests done. The integrity of the tests is not in question, so why not accept all the results available, just this once?

murasaki · 05/09/2025 19:28

Yes, on this occasion I'd be inclined to believe that everyone who actually took the test will pass it.
