Richard Coles embarrassing himself

Why do these mediocre men need to keep speaking? You’d think this was written by a 12 year old, who uses the word ‘baddie’ ffs? 🤦‍♀️ It’s so full of virtue signalling, ‘look at me with all these young people showing them how cool I am’ it’s absolutely tragic.

Oh come on. He’s stating that he’s sat around a table with people of different generations. There are differences. He’s acknowledging that they grew up on Harry Potter, but disagree with JKR. Ok, he used the word baddie, no need for the snark. He’s a man of the cloth, he’s hardly going to be calling her a C*nt is he? Especially if those kids are going to look that post up. He’s having some respect for their ages and their parents, who he probably doesn’t wish to fall out with.

And I don’t actually know where he stands on the Trans debate.

I find him to actually be quite a nuanced, respectful and funny man when I’ve heard him talking about things. This, isn’t something to waste energy on.

What I’m saying is; if it were me, there’s plenty worse words I would’ve used to describe the hateful woman.

nauticant · 17/08/2025 18:28

Richard Coles has an incredibly sinister brother who is no stranger to causing harm to women: campaignopposingpolicesurveillance.com/2024/12/18/undercover-policing-inquiry-andy-coles-primer/

AtomicBlondeRose · 17/08/2025 18:28

Baddie is a compliment in gen z slang!

nauticant · 17/08/2025 18:29

During the AIDS crisis Richard Coles for some reason decided to pretend to be HIV positive.

LittleBitofBread · 17/08/2025 18:30

If anything I’m hearing a little bit of shade towards his younger companions; the word ‘baddie’ is quite childish and maybe implies that he thinks hating JKR for her views on women’s rights is itself childish and/or simplistic.

ThatCyanSheep · 17/08/2025 18:30

What I find bizarre is how he can sit there as a rich celebrity and think it’s a good thing the younger generation don’t think they’ll ever buy a house

Jumpthewaves · 17/08/2025 18:31

I don't see a problem with it, I grew up with HP, the first one was used as one of my school texts, but I don't see JKR as a baddie.

yetanotherusernameAgain · 17/08/2025 18:31

I don't understand what you're het up about. That he had the temerity to mention people he is working with don't like JKR?

SlightAngle · 17/08/2025 18:32

But he doesn't align himself with The Youth thinking JKR is a 'baddie'. I'd agree with a pp that the slightly silly term suggests he doesn't.

Thingyfanding · 17/08/2025 18:33

Baddie is a good thing

LegleEagle · 17/08/2025 18:34

I think he’s saying how they have different views from him, not necessarily endorsing what they’re saying.

AtomicBlondeRose · 17/08/2025 18:28

Exactly!! I don’t think he realises! Ha

How did you get that from his post? He's listing generational differences, not judging them.

This thread is weird.

Coatsoff42 · 17/08/2025 18:35

i don’t know what he means, I think Sabrina carpenter is a classic baddie. Im not sure what he’s saying!

PermanentTemporary · 17/08/2025 18:35

He’s not saying that he agrees with them.

If you haven’t understood what the standard view of JKR is in that age group, at least in public, you’re in a bubble.

This is a man who pretended to have AIDS in the 90’s and whose brother is a creep. He has no moral high ground whatsoever.

Last time I looked I get to decide what I ‘waste energy on’.

That’s how I took it too?

Needmorelego · 17/08/2025 18:38

What's the back story of the group he is with?
Who are they?
Local book club?
Church group (he is a Vicar after all)?
Local litter picking group?
Is he running the group as the leader (so that's why everyone else is younger?)

Davros · 17/08/2025 18:39

I’ve never liked him. Mostly because of the religion

I have many young people in my life of that generation who believe the exact opposite of JKR, but then they were brought up to think for themselves and not be brainwashed by SM.

At least you (probably) didn't have to sit through an after dinner speech of his that I was obliged to listen to. It was vacuous but everyone just tittered along. Self absorbed.
