Richard Coles embarrassing himself

Why do these mediocre men need to keep speaking? You’d think this was written by a 12 year old, who uses the word ‘baddie’ ffs? 🤦‍♀️ It’s so full of virtue signalling, ‘look at me with all these young people showing them how cool I am’ it’s absolutely tragic.

Why is JKR preventing them from buying a house?

Except JKR isn't a "hateful woman" at all. Unlike those who hate on her obsessively, send violent threats, spread lies and disinformation about her, her politics and her motives, and more often than not appear a) to be incapable of even reading what she's actually said b) to be largely factually, historically and scientifically illiterate c) to be unable to give the tiniest shit about equality, the actual law, or human rights for women and girls in the real world.

But, sure thing, some of us are clearly "hateful" in observing that the JKR-fixation is basically a propagandist witch-hunt by lazy bigoted people who erroneously imagine they're righteous and clever but seem to demonstrate few critical thinking skills, let alone ethics or intelligence.

Aww, thanks for that.
Why answer in such a fired up way? What I wrote in my post didn’t really deserve such vitriol.

You seem to have a lot of anger/derision towards people that don’t follow your view/opinion, and the views of JKR. Are you ok?

Im asking because yes, I find her views hateful. She sends out dog whistles so people pile on those she doesn’t like. She walks that very very fine line of saying just the right things so people pick up exactly what she is putting down.
And she is loving watching all her minions getting stirred up every time she puts her finger on a keyboard. She just sits back and watches, laughing. She could not give less of a shit about women’s rights.
in 40 years we will look back, horrified at how we treated other humans just for being different and be ashamed at the suffering we caused. Exactly how we look back now at how people treated gay men during the AIDS crisis.

But honestly, you don’t need to punch low about ethics and intelligence if someone says something about your Queen; because that says more about you than me.

Baddie is a compliment in gen z slang!

It might well be, but Coles clearly isn't using it in a positive way here.

The word 'but' in the sentence means that the second part contradicts the first part, so [positive statement] they know HP inside out BUT they think JKR is a baddie.[negative statement]

If he was using 'baddie' as a Gen Z compliment to JKR he would have said that they know HP inside out AND they think JKR is a baddie.

LlynTegid · 17/08/2025 21:36

If we were to judge a person by how their brother behaves, I don't think the Coles family would be first on the list.

He’s also in a relationship with Richard Cant, son of Brian, for the older members of the group.

Loved Brain Cant. As a child he was the kind of man I was going to grow up and marry! (Kind, handsome, twinkle in his eye).

As for JKR - she most definitely is a Baddie B to me! The woman is a bloody legend, a hero and a fucking warrior for women’s rights. Those who have a problem with her ‘views’ must have a problem with the innate laws of nature, physics, the universe. Reality denying dimwits.

Azandme · 17/08/2025 21:44

There are a lot of offensive posts on social media, this isn't one of them.

This post is, however, proof that some people will froth at anything. Good lord.

This is all kinds of wrong. For a start gay men weren't treated badly durng the 80s (I was there). You sound like you get your "facts" from BBC dramas. And most people see JKR as able to tell truth to power because she is so rich that she can't be cancelled unlike other more lowly women. I have seen her being rude to India willoughby on X but he is pretty nasty himself to women like KJK. So horses for courses.

She could not give less of a shit about women’s rights

'In Scotland, Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is more prevalent in women than men, with a national female-to-male ratio of 2.3:1. Scotland also has one of the highest rates of MS diagnoses in the world'. JKR funds Scotland to be a world leader in MS research -

Helped to fund a rescue mission to get women lawyers out of Afghanistan -

And Lumos -

'We shed light on the root causes of family separation – poverty, conflict and discrimination. We press and support governments to reform care systems and show how children can be safely united with families.'

But yeah, because she supports women's legal right to single sex services (as per the EQA2010), she's the devil.

I'm not rolling my eyes, honestly...

Read Simon Garfield's The End of innocence, then get back to me.
Gay men weren't treated badly?
James Anderton talking about a "cesspit of their own making," Maggie saving his job, gay plague headlines, ignorance and a lack of support from public health officials, clause 28 and the damage it caused. The stigma of that period in the UK and across the pond causing internalised homophobia and shame. I was in Manchester. I attended Pride with the choir singing Tell me there's a heaven, whilst a friend of mine sobbed. I taught during that period and had to protect a gay student of mine, each and every lunchtime. Where the hell were you?

CurlewKate · 18/08/2025 05:28

I find it extraordinary that anyone can say “gay men weren’t treated badly during the ‘80s!!”

Richard Coles has an incredibly sinister brother who is no stranger to causing harm to women: campaignopposingpolicesurveillance.com/2024/12/18/undercover-policing-inquiry-andy-coles-primer/

And? Are we suddenly responsible for our siblings’ actions?

Which views are hateful?

Anyway I saw this and wondered why he even mentioned her at all if not to rage bait for clicks. There was literally no other reason for it.

There’s no point in telling people what JKR has achieved in terms of women’s rights, they’re not interested unless it centres men. They’re much happier to comment on threads telling women who understand the material reality of biological sex that we ‘have too much time on our hands’ or ‘it’s just middle aged women frothing’ or ‘you should find something better to do’, all very male and patronising and predictable, and something that we’ve heard a million times before, so they’re not even original.

Because what you said about her being a "hateful woman" in such a throwaway way was absolutely vile. Can you honestly not understand how it comes across? There's been years of it. Other people have every right to comment on your sentiments however they wish. I really don't care what you think of my tone. The woman has been sent multiple death and rape threats, as have other women and has been lied about constantly. It is absolutely unhinged. And it is fed by people who lazily believe anything they've been told and are happy to enable the dysfunction.

And thanks, but I'm not a "minion." I don't have a "leader". There are multiple women who've been bullied and hounded because of this rubbish and because of lazy groupthink. Women who've lost their livelihoods, had their mental health destroyed. It's disgusting and those who continue to enable it are not good people. And too bloody right they make me angry.

To be fair, a great many gay men WERE treated very badly in the 80s, esp outside of big cities, I was also there at the time.Marching against Section 28, and on Pride alongside gay freiends when it was an actual protest march.

But "trans" is not the new gay rights. And for many of us who remember the way that the deeply conservative middle aged "trans" people (who weren't called that then, there were transsexuals and transvestites) spoke about gay people at the time, well, let's just say, "trans' had WAY more in common with the "far right" and Christians than so-called "terfs" ever did.

Edit: And Willoughby is a classic example. What a 70s throwback. It's like he never got past the Bernard Manning sentiments and doesn't realise society has moved on. Racist, homophobic, misogynistic, he's got it all. Not to mention the delusions...

Cynic17 · 18/08/2025 10:06

I like Richard Coles - he's an interesting speaker and writer. Read his first autobiography and it is fascinating about the move from 80s pop star to CofE priest.
His book about bereavement is also worth a read - life with David wasn't easy.
I miss him on Saturday Live.
I don't necessarily agree with every view he holds, but that's fine because I don't agree with cancelling people just because I may not like everything they say.
He is absolutely not responsible for the behaviour or actions of his brother.
