She's just a liar. The worst kind at that, as she also lies to herself.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 09/08/2026 14:36

I have known people who thought any mention of them meant the person doing the mentioning was "obsessed". They were, to put it kindly, a little strange to say the least. The belief that everything is about you and everyone thinks about you all the time really isn't normal.

anyolddinosaur · 09/08/2026 14:52

Not going to read the article and encourage other interviews. Has the book been remaindered yet?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 09/08/2026 15:23

Dunno; it was half-price almost from day one. Presumably PanMacmillan thought it likely to make enough money for a paperback edition (came out on Thursday, I think) to be worth their while.

The Wikipedia entry is a mishmash of press releases and is in the present, future and past tenses, so it is quite hard to work out what happened or is happening or will happen when.

I'm so glad this thread popped up as I wouldn't have known about JKs review otherwise. Gave me a good laugh 😂

This is like a criminal complaining that their victims are obsessed with them if they try and petition the court or parole board not to let the criminal get away with a lighter sentence. JK Rowling didn't do anything to Sturgeon, so of course Sturgeon doesn't have to think about her so much. Sturgeon has made a lot of women's lives worse through her efforts to completely change a fundamental aspect of our culture. Rowling, Cherry and millions of other women are going to be shit talking her for a long, long time. Sturgeon doesn't have enough hours in the day to even name all women who rightly criticise her for her misogyny.

Couldn't agree more with all of this.

Also Sturgeon is riding along on JKR's name in the hope it sells her stupid book. Plus a distraction to her appalling record when she was Scotland's leader. She's the all time grifter of our times.

I drew a comparison between some aspects of Sturgeons personality/political behaviour and Farage once and pissed the Sturgeon supporter of so much. (I wasn't actually trying to rage bait). Anyway, I am not saying they are 100% the same but I still think that grifting/dishonest behaviour and a certain type of opportunistic populism exist across the political spectrum. That is not to offend people who want Scottish independence for decent reasons.
Independance etc is always going to be heated but the glee with which she and her supporters stirred up bad feeling and then washed their hands of it afterwards was... interesting. As was the willingness to do the same to women who wanted single sex spaces. And after all that she then moved to London to escape the "goldfish bowl" of Scotland anyway.

BiologicalRobot · 10/08/2026 15:29

So she's going after a JKR headline spat to put her in the publics mind so she can sell more books? Just grifting as usual then. Absolutely pathetic that she can't fall back on something she's actually achieved in her many years of politics 🙄

There are a lot of dodgy politicians. You never see a poor ex PM. Politicians on all side seem attracted to getting their fingers deep in that cookie jar like a moth to a flame. Even in that context Sturgeon has to be one of the worst in my opinion. Such a rotten, crooked, corrupt legacy from what she did to Salmond, rapist as a gender, all the way through to Mein Kampfervan. The people of Scotland did not deserve to be led that poorly. I'm glad her political career is but a dry corpse in JKR's wake.

Well, the job of PM is actually quite well paid by normal people standards, and comes with a decent pension. Plus the people that become PM are usually quite well educated or come from well paid fields. So you wouldn't expect ex-PMs to be poor, that in itself isn't a sign of corruption. And they aren't all corrupt. Gordon Brown for instance might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I don't think any one has accused him of being mercenary or corrupt.

I actually think that sort of blatant profiteering, such as the sort Sturgeons husband got up to (that she knew nothing about) is highly unusual and that's exactly why it made headlines. Likewise the bribes given to Gill and the (alleged) dodginess regarding 5 million pounds. Which is an enormous sum of money by UK politics standards. It puts camper vans to shame but that's not really the point it's unacceptable if it's a camper van or 5 million and I don't think "they are all in on it" really holds water.

lechiffre55 · 10/08/2026 16:48

I think there's enough examples in the UK ( don't get me started on the EU ) of MPs enriching themselves to consider it a tarnished profession. Remember the MP's expenses scandal with taxpayer funded duck houses on ponds.
I'll put it another way. Not all MPs are in it for themselves, but for an MP who is in it primarily for themself, there's significant opportunities to feather the nest.
There's an old adage about they way it happens. When Tories want some extra, they take it privately. Cash for questions etc... When Labour want some extra they take it from public funds. Not paying the stamp duty on a house etc...
I think it is generally better than it was, but I don't think it's been stamped out.
The Sturgeons on the take of their own supporters' money is an outlier to attempt to be balanced. I do like she's being openly crabby in calling Cherry's book "shit". I'm glad she's pissed off.

I have a lot of respect for Gordon Brown.

I now want to read the women who wouldn't wheesht.

I'm no particular Harry Potter fan but JK is an incredible writer.
