SNP were the 'Tartan Tories' when i was a kid. And pretty viciously anti English, too.

I guess they now reserve the venom and blame for 'Westminster' instead.

KassandraOfSparta · 13/08/2025 09:15

There is a hard core of SNP voters who are still rabidly anti-English. During covid there were stunts like this with numpties holding "English get out of Scotland" banners on the A1 at Berwick and at Glasgow central station. Round condemnation from most in Scotland but Sturgeon and her cronies remained silent.

I'm confused about how sexuality could be or not be binary.

Surely it's gender that some people believe isn't binary?

Oh, it's Sean "I will tell you this, sir" Clerkin.

I wondered what he was up to these days.

Sounds a bit populist? It does make me wonder what Reform will evolve into if they start having to actually govern.

I don't know if they were ever really populist per se. Quite single minded and - to a child, anyway - they always seemed quite hostile. Nationalism was pretty scary back then. It's had a similar brand refresh as Nicola did over the past fifteen odd years. Softer, more smiley, less confrontational.

Not everything has to be for public consumption, though, There is no need to share everything about yourself just because you are a public figure.

Edited

Oh, absolutely. If you chose to, though, that it will be still received negatively by some people in 2025 is the shame. A shocking number of people are still homophobic, for example and it does still damage careers, in football, etc.

MrsSkylerWhite · 13/08/2025 12:31

Though I’m musing now. Wee Nicky is neither homosexual or aspires to a career in football as far as I’m aware. So, I’ll get my coat 😁

Perhaps it's hexadecimal. Or she thinks it's buy-nary and she isn't going to open an Only Fans.

That's my memory of them from when I was a teenager

Could not give the slightest of fucks. Why on Earth would she think we are interested?

She doesn't. She's just hopeful that the tabloid press will make so much noise about it that it will drown out all the stuff they SHOULD be paying attention to.

Lots of people are 🤷‍♀️

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 14/08/2025 08:01

She's going to keep on and on about it until people are interested. Because she's got a book to sell.

IwantToRetire · 15/08/2025 01:12

I cant quite express how gross I find it that in all the recent interviews with NS about her book she puts herself forward as some sort of "potential" lesbian.

I realise newspaper probably like to make this a "titilating" title for an article, but it is so fake and far more about trying to make out she isn't the anti woman phobe that she has been.

Its bad enough that she has made Scotland an laughing stock, but resent her contaminating the reality of being a lesbian. Turning it into her USP or something.

Exposing the fake posturing of politicians.

Fraser is a very nice man and always tries to be charitable. But you can tell he's really having to reach here.

I was thinking something along these lines too, though I don't know Fraser other than reading his comments for the Times.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 15/08/2025 07:53

Scots, she says, “are full of bravado but, when push comes to shove, lack the gumption to follow through

Tell that to FWS. Speak for yourself, Sturgeon.

Cottagecheeseisnotcheese · 15/08/2025 09:08

Kathleen stock's review in unherd is rather good too

Lalgarh · 15/08/2025 09:42

Sturgeon apparently cancelled her one to one press interviews in favour of a stand and possible -dash-to-another appointment press huddle at the Edinburgh festival for her book launch

True though, in my opinion.

'... in her book she says she possessed none of the confidence that she exuded: it was an act. One that started aged 16 when she answered a television advert to join the SNP. From then on she was, as she puts it, “in character, playing a part”. '

Yes. She's a liar, through and through.
