She's learned nothing. Absolutely nothing.

KassandraOfSparta · 12/08/2025 08:36

In a move which is magnificent for those of us north of the border, and not such news for those living in the SE of England, Sturgeon has apparently announced plans to live in England for a while.

Also pissed off with BBC Breakfast referring to her as a "former politician". No. She is a SERVING MSP who should be doing the day job not fannying about on your red sofa.

nauticant · 12/08/2025 08:37

She's now just started being inteviewed on Radio 4.

Good for her.
Frankly, her cool, calm, common sense delivery when the myriad men in power in Westminster were flapping about like headless chickens (or partying, whatever, meh we’ve mostly forgotten about that now, haven’t we?) got my CEV husband and I through many dark days and nights.
For that alone, I am truly grateful and very prepared to give her the benefit of the doubt.

As for her sexuality? Seriously, who gives a shit? We all deserve to be who we are.

What does " everyone deserves to be who they are" actually mean? How can anyone ever be anything other than they are?

If it means to be free to express whatever you like....there are questions around that for the fact we live in a society and have to adapt ourselves, to an extent, to the conditions and expectations and rules of that society. Some things we have to keep private, to the confines of our own mind and imagination. You cannot ever not be who you are...but it is also necessary to recognise that not everything is about you.

She'll easily disappear into the general anonymity of London...that's is partly why people like it.

KassandraOfSparta · 12/08/2025 08:43

She is probably thinking the left-wing Londoners who loved her from afar for being "not Boris" and didn't have to live through the consequences of her policies will welcome her with open arms. Few non-executive directorships. A bit of lobbying.

nauticant · 12/08/2025 08:43

Indpendence is coming. It's got strong support from the young and they'll make it happen.

She still thinks self-ID is the right thing to do. Asked about Isla Bryson she's moved onto gabble mode. It's because the debate was toxic you see. And that's why she struggled to articulate herself. It's in the context of "an assault against trans people".

So, will you apologise? Especially to those Sturgeon attacked at the time for things that Sturgeon is now saying herself. The anwer, made short, is "no".

nauticant · 12/08/2025 08:46

So, that interview was whizzing round the houses and the female interviewer moving onto the substance and saying "about this albatross, I've just put it round your neck and I'd like you to acknowledge that you're wearing it, and explain why you're doing so".

Shortshriftandlethal · 12/08/2025 08:47

ArabellaScott · 12/08/2025 08:30

She's learned nothing. Absolutely nothing.

She's opted to stay true to her political position. The one she gave so much for. She's been involved in politics since she was 16 and has been fighting for her political tribe her whole adult life. Like many who identify totally with their role it can be almost impossible to let go of. Look at Jeremy Corbyn, too. He's spent his whole life saying the exact same things, and has never re-considered or re-calibrated anything in the light of experience and reality. He totally identifies with his poitical positions.

nauticant · 12/08/2025 08:48

The people who regularly comment on Twitter about the Today programme lean strongly Left and are not at all pleased at the way this interview is being conducted.

maltravers · 12/08/2025 08:49

She says she respected others views in the gender debate. Pants on fire Nicola! You called us possible racists and bigots, remember?

Shortshriftandlethal · 12/08/2025 08:50

Who is interviewing her?

nauticant · 12/08/2025 08:51

"There was nothing in my WhatsApp messages! I was just following policy by not keeping them. Look at the transcript from the Covid Inquiry, all the answers are there."

nauticant · 12/08/2025 08:53

Shortshriftandlethal · 12/08/2025 08:50

Who is interviewing her?

Anna Foster.

Its a tribe of one.

The woman is corrupt in every walk of her life. Can't believe how many people actually voted for her. Horrible person through and through

There are those who like Corbyn precisely because he's believed the exact same things for his whole life and never re-examined anything. Personally that approach seems very narcissistic to me. We all think we know everything when we're 16, but most of us grow out of it.

The right side of history

There is an online meme. I’m unsure whether you are aware of it. One of the most debased versions of it is a pairing of two photos, the…

This woman is a liar. On every level. She lies, and lies, and lies.

Arrested for fraud. Can't recall anything. Lost the records. Look at the country's outcomes, look at a journo jailed for failing to toe the line, look at the Hate Crime Act, look at her political rival stitched up, the cosy relationships between the judiciary and the government, the failing schools, the failing roads and ferries, drug deaths, policing cutbacks, look at the miserable state of our useless parliament.

This woman has trashed Scotland.

The country will recover eventually but she has damaged it, and affected every one of us.

Also - small potatoes in the scheme of her overall performance, but she's taking 80k a year for ostensibly representing the people of Pollokshields East, while writing and touring a book and fannying about at awards ceremonies. What a grift.

BigAnne · 12/08/2025 09:06

Nearly50omg · 08/08/2025 20:25

It’s very well known in Scotland that she lives with her long term female partner in the Scottish Borders and her husband lives with his long term male partner

😂😂

Yeah, this is not Sturgeon. She has no conviction on anything apart from her own standing.

Igneococcus · 12/08/2025 09:11

I don't think she has the faintest idea how she comes across and she has nobody close who seems to be bothered enough to tell her. She talks about self doubt but there is none on display.
I wonder how the appearance at the EIBF will be going (or has it happened alreday).

I was never sure if she really believed in independence, or in anything more than the greatness of Nicola.

So not quite the anti-Boris.

I actually do think she believes in independence but I don't think even she knows why and what for. She had the power to make (or seriously try to make) things better for the people of Scotland and it never seemed -to me at least- that she could be arsed with the details of that, or the work it takes.
The article about the panic attack she had because Salmond wouldn't read the white paper before the referendum is also quite interesting.

ArabellaScott · 12/08/2025 09:21

It's all message and spin so it's hard to know her true motivations. She is a pretty good actor. But I expect power is the root of it all.

The same with Tony Benn, and with Frank Field; although at least Frank Field was honest and open about his religious faith...which is what political ideology can become. People see this as having a fixed and steady moral compass...but the very fixity that in one way seems like a virtue, can also turn into a vice.
