Just wondering what people think about her. I was sent a link by someone, and I do occasionally try to watch the views of pro-trans people for "balance", but I really struggled with this one.

I find her excessively pleased with herself, incoherent, ageist and of course prone to flinging around insults such as "TERF", "transphone" and "bigot" every few minutes.

I'm not quite sure what gives her the confidence to "diss" people like Helen Joyce, Richard Dawkins et al, as if they're idiots and she is some sort of intellectual giant.

She says things like this: "The UK's Supreme Court ruled on "biological sex", but they have absolutely no idea what they're talking about. The "Gender Critical" position on biology is just factually wrong. Finally hundreds of experts in the field come together to call out all this anti-science rubbish"

Other than being trans herself, does she have any justifiable claim to the superior knowledge she purports to have?

I'm now predicting a rush of mathematicians claiming that 2+2 does not equal 4.

"That is a binary answer and doesn't take into account personal preference"

That happened in 2020, I'm afraid.

He's an insufferable man who I think is really regretting having his penis chopped off.

The problem with these men is they've committed 💯 and there's really no going back.

Yeah, if he weren't such a knob (irony klaxon) I'd feel sorry for him.

Imagine having your healthy penis amputated only to find that still no one believes you are a woman.

Quite a few of the signatures are from other countries, e.g. the USA and Ireland. The UK’s laws are none of their business.

About half of them, in fact.

Do all these US based "feminists" not have more important battles to be fighting in their own country?

Does it never occur to them that perhaps women in the UK have more rights than women in the US because we are actually better at feministing than they are?

I need to point out a skill tactic that many people, in all walks of life, work hard to achieve, which is to project an air of absolute sure-fire confidence in everything they say.

they make it sound extremely convincing and make sure their narrative is consistent.

Colin is one such example.

it gains followers and listeners and then new “truths and facts” start to be generated and repeated with confidence.

a new belief system is born.

Yes, this is spot on and is, I think, what wrong-footed me as my inclination is to only assert an argument when I'm sure of my facts rather than bluster with bravado like a man.

Hmm. 🤔

They do have my sympathies as I think it's abhorrent these types of surgeries have been allowed to happen.

However I can't get past the fact they'll try to convince others to go down the same path. That to me, is evil.

Well, they do have form for not managing to respect other countries' boundaries, don't they?

This is true, but they're constantly banging on about abortion rights so why don't they focus on that?

It's no good saying you're capable of fighting more than one battle at once if you're losing all of them.

You can see why they don't want to become the poster children for what the whole of society acknowledges to be a failed medical experiment though.

Haven't rtft but he's a bit dim and very me-me-me. One of those who views 'woman' as a costume anyone can wear and so is very confused whenever women point out that we're actual human beings in our own right.
He's one of those who spouts the "I'm biological therefore I'm a biological woman" without any sense of the absolute absurdity of it.

EmoBearRights · 25/07/2025 13:45

She does research. Look I find it incredible you consider her to be smug when a lot of TERFs are intolerable and actually hateful anti feminist pick me. Kellie Jean Mingshell is absolutely awful I can't listen to her faux girlie voice and horrible opinions for more than a few minutes without feeling violent. People are only smug if you disagree with them. Rowling is intolerably patronising and for a writer doesn't seem to do much research into the things she rants about like the Hershfeld institute for example.

Two things can be true at once. Almost every sentence she utters either explicitly or implicitly says, "Transphobes are so dumb!" Yes, I agree TERFs can also do this, but Helen Joyce, Maya Forstater or Kathleen Stock do not speak like this.

That list of signatories is interesting. Many are not aligned with any university, and of those who are the majority are in the US and Canada.

What they think about the British Equality Act is therefore pretty irrelevant.

No, he doesn't do his research. Research involves actual research, backed up by science and evidence.
He throws out accusations, exaggerations and unsubstantiated claims as some kind of gotcha, and then acts as if challenges to that comes from bigotry. This is the opposite of research.

He’s not as dim as he makes out - obviously he’s no towering intellect but he’s making disingenuous comments deliberately to get attention and troll women.

clearveil · 25/07/2025 15:07

He's one of these men who really do believe that being a woman is just a collection of body parts and tropes that can be dressed up in or bolted on. Men like him don't see women as fully human and so why shouldn't he be able to have surgery, take hormones put on a dress and declare himself a woman with all the rights of a female, after all as a male shouldn't he be able to do as do and take what he wants from women, aren't they really only there to serve men? He can't see that how deeply misogynistic his attitudes to women are precisely because he is male. There is a deep and real problem with how males and patriarchal culture views women in an objectified and dehumanising way and the behaviour and attitudes of me like Montgomerie are one of the expressions of that dehumanisation and objectification of women.

Oh dear, if you can't listen to her talk without feeling violent, does that mean you're one of the people who shows up to her events and then violently assaults people?

You seem upset. Have you tried a nice sit down and a cup of tea? I mean is he upset too if I was defending a misogynist who dresses up as a woman and insults women
