‘[Owen] seems to be upset because she had a chuckle about his erratic behaviour on Piers Morgan Uncensored last week. In response to an X user who wondered if Jones might have partaken of the white stuff before fidgeting and gurning his way through Morgan’s show, Rowling tweeted: “Well, he is known as Talcum X.”

Jones is hopping mad. He’s even written a 1,300-word screed on what a rotter Rowling is, which I’m sure we can all agree is a perfectly normal response to a woman making a joke.’

😂😂 and also 🤮🤢

He actually speaks a lot of sense and has consistently spoken out about the genocidal intent of Israel. Truth is JK Rowling hasn’t spoken out about the genocide and is clearly irritated that he called her out.

I don’t think OJ talks any sense at all.

But as well as that, I deeply distrust humourless dogmatists like him. I’ve met far too many over my career and in positions of power the do great harm,,,while sadistically enjoying themselves.

This is the problem with the Left. Virtue signalling nonsense. Why does everyone have to 'speak out'? What right does he have to force another adult to 'speak out about Gaza'? What good has he done 'speaking out about Gaza' apart from making himself feel like he's doing something virtuous and getting accolades from his supporters for 'speaking out'?

Which is why I couldn’t understand why he was so hyper. If he’s been properly diagnosed and completed a supervised titration he wouldn’t have presented as he did. Dashing off a long article - seems like for him the truth hurts

This.

It also it's harmful misinformation to spread suggesting people with ADHD being treated with medication would be behaving like that.

He may have ADHD he may be on medication for it but I don't think that explains his behavior at all - something else must have been going on.

Yes, I know several people with ADHD, and none of them behave like that when medicated, or even when not medicated. Plenty of people I know who have a coke problem, however...

Brefugee · 09/07/2025 10:36

The point about ADHD meds is, as far as i understand, is that you need to take them consistently for them to have an effect, but they aren't cumulative so you have to take them every day.

Which for lots of people with ADHD presents a problem in itself (I set a reminder every day to tell my DC to take theirs). I have no comment on his behaviour either way and have not seen the clip with Piers Morgan, but i have seen other of his videos. He is chaotic verging on manic in many of them, depending on the topic.

TBH Chavs was ok. Since then? he has focussed more on his hatred of Israel, and women. For him, i gues, as for so many people who need clicks and rely on eyes on articles to continue to be able to work, he often takes up a rather extreme position. (he wants children, right? i think he's mentioned that before. It will be interesting to see how he filters out the candidates to incubate his offspring) And like so many who are obsessed with a topic, they simply cannot relate to someone who doesn't, or obsesses (in their view) with something else that is either meaningless or plain wrong. JKR does a good slapdown, but tbh i wish she would ignore, they might go away (but then they might find another target, and she can clearly handle it so maybe better that she continues issuing the slaps)

FWIW: I rarely talk about the Gaza / Israel conflict. Both sides are incredibly wrong in so many ways. And as always - and this is only ever my talking point on the subject - the women suffer. All the women suffer. The ones raped by the IDF, the ones raped by the Hamas. And the children. Children always suffer.

Women are scared men will kill them. Men are scared women will laugh at them.

That is painfully relevant here.

It's not about being effective. It's about personal branding.

OJ makes his money 'speaking out', and he will raise his profile when he attacks another high profile person.

Brefugee · 09/07/2025 10:39

I've been on the left (and drifting leftwards) since i first discovered politics when i was about 12. And i know from experience and hearing what other women, who are/were way more involved in the organised left, how awful men on the left can be/are.

In a way it's worse than right wing misogyny. Because at least the fascists don't claim to be feminists.

DialSquare · 09/07/2025 10:39

TRAs “JKR is an antisemite. Just look at the goblins in Harry Potter”

Also TRAs “JKR is a supporter of Isreal because she hasn’t mentioned Gaza”

Why must she? I'm sure we could list thousands of things she hasn't spoken out about. 🤔

BedlingtonWillow · 09/07/2025 10:41

The thing about Owen is, I probably agree with him on a lot more things than not (his rape denial and constant misogynistic hatred of women, not withstanding) but he's just such a smug, odious, self-righteous prick, that I cannot stand him for even a second. He's like Donald Trump in that respect - instant, rage-inducing turn-off of a man.

There are a lot of people who haven't "spoken out" on Gaza so its very unlikely thats the reason OJ is a bit cross with JKR

illinivich · 09/07/2025 10:43

He's just someone who thinks he can say whatever he wants and folds when people snap back.

He not wise enough to know the limits of his intelligence, knowledge and experience and truly believes everyone benefits from hearing what he thinks (pushed by the likes of piers morgan). He cant handle it when hes not taken seriously because it doesnt dawn on him that the plebs might just know things he doesn't and see things he can't.

Hes not unique, but because of his politics and his media career and the bonkers bubble he's in, i dont think he'll ever change. We're going to see him acting like this for years.

RedToothBrush · 09/07/2025 10:43

RapidOnsetGenderCritic · 09/07/2025 10:22

Why should JKR pontificate about Gaza, a subject about which she may or may not know any more than Owen Jones? There are countless injustices and atrocities in the world, and none of us has the capacity or mental resilience to care deeply about all of them, so we speak up about the ones that we actually do care about - unless we have an income depending on being opinionated on the cause du jour.

Quite

The correct response to the following:
A: it's awful the injustices women face, we should do something about it
B: but what about Palestine?

Is always
"Hmm yeah, what about Palestine? It's an irrelevant straw man to women's issues which I'm currently campaigning on. If you want to campaign on something you feel passionately about, crack on. But I'm going to focus solely on this, ta muchly. Fuck off."

The force teaming self righteousness to the omnicause is pathetic.

I suspect the reason JKR doesn't engage on the subject is precisely because shes busy doing exactly that. And that's good enough.

This is the problem with the purity spiral though. If you don't agree with him on everything, you're persona non grata just as much as if you were Tommy Robinson.

Americano75 · 09/07/2025 10:46

Basically, his twitter was wall to wall tranz and now he knows he's on the losing side he's switched his focus to Gaza. Pathetic wank.

So they can’t find a thing on her… no drugs, abuse, fraud, and she gives tonnes to charity. Yep, she’s a wonderful human being. Apparently this beggars belief. Especially when they look in the mirror. So they’re losing their shit 😂😂😂

Edited

I honest to God think that a lot of them can't stand the fact that she's fabulously wealthy, more than they are, and not only didn't get it via a man with marriage or inheritance, but she didn't even earn it in a field dedicated to wealth generation like banking or whatever. She did it with heart and creativity.

You can see it in how Jolyon and George snipe about her wealth despite not exactly being short a few bob themselves.

people are allowed to care about different things.

Jones et al spout a lot of nonsense about how awful it is for the women of Gaza (it is, they are right) and absolutely nothing about how awful it is for the women in Iran and Afghanistan.

Jones, like so many other men criticising feminists for not caring about "bunch of opressed women du jour" never talks about oppressed women at any other time, it is all about people then. Everyone. Which is their right, but then they can shut their yaps about women caring about women.

Out of Jones and Rowling, which one do you think rescued 50 professional women out of the hellhole that was Afghanistan?

They are allowed to care about different things. Jones only spoke about Rowling re.Palestine because he was speaking about Palestine in the interview in which Rowling made fun of his reaction to medication. He therefore quite reasonably suggested, perhaps take a look at the issue in question rather than taking potshots at my personal health.

I'm pretty certain she's never spoken out about the bin collections in my local area. Dreadful woman.

Thelostjewels · 09/07/2025 10:49

How are people watching the piers show ?

Absolutely brilliant article and comments and ...talcum x 😂

I didn't realise however he went to Oxford 🥲 I find that hugely worrying ,I'm looking at it for my Ds and that fact really puts me off.

Notfinanciallyresponsibleforyou · 09/07/2025 10:50

Deep down they want JK to be be their ‘friend’, if they can convert her then game over.

Joly wanted to meet up with her, Talcum has written an 1300 word essay, Boy has to mention her in an attempt to get people to buy her music. They know if they mention her they will get publicity otherwise few people have an interest in them.

They need her a lot more than she needs them.

Christwosheds · 09/07/2025 10:51

heldinadream · 09/07/2025 08:45

Just clicked: Owen is a wannabee Musk of the left. Similar persona, views on everything and convinced he's right. Similar MO, off his face shouting his mouth off.
TalcumX though, JKR is priceless, peerless, a queen rarer than rubies. 🥰

It was someone on mumsnet who first coined “Talcum X” I think ? So funny. Along with “sanctimonious Morph” which also still makes me laugh.

EdithStourton · 09/07/2025 10:51

One issue that Talcum X Little OJ Owen Jones seems to miss is that many of the people who 'speak out' about Gaza know the square root of not much about the Middle East, the Ottoman Empire, Jewish history etc. One poster recently was essentially evoking the blood libel - probably repeating talking points from elsewhere - but when I mentioned the blood libel, had no idea what I was talking about.

Owen seems similarly ignorant, which quite astonishing given how much he spouts on about the topic.

He must be deeply painful to have as a relative or - even worse - an IL. Just imagine dealing with him over Christmas dinner...

Brefugee · 09/07/2025 10:52

i was thinking about a list of (let's say Scottish based) authors who i haven't seen (prominently) speaking out about Gaza.

(i may be wrong, i don't tend to follow Gaza closely because of the whole hot mess)

Ian Rankin
Val McDermid
Alastair McCall Smith
Irvine Welsh
Christopher Bookmyre
Ali Smith
Janice Galloway
Jackie Kay
James Robertson
Alan Warner
Louise Welsh
Anne Donnovan
Graeme Mcrae Burnett

(i asked Copilot for a list of the top 15 bestselling living authors from Scotland or based in Scotland. JKR was number 1)

Should we stalk their social media and demand they speak up on Gaza? or should we leave them in peace to do whatever it is they want to do?
