‘[Owen] seems to be upset because she had a chuckle about his erratic behaviour on Piers Morgan Uncensored last week. In response to an X user who wondered if Jones might have partaken of the white stuff before fidgeting and gurning his way through Morgan’s show, Rowling tweeted: “Well, he is known as Talcum X.”

Jones is hopping mad. He’s even written a 1,300-word screed on what a rotter Rowling is, which I’m sure we can all agree is a perfectly normal response to a woman making a joke.’

😂😂 and also 🤮🤢

He's not wrong that the silence from UK feminists on Israel’s systematic use of sexual, reproductive and other forms of gender-based violence has been deafening. The UK government is making a profit from this suffering by selling arms to Israel and UK feminists don't seem to care.

I don't think you can talk about OJ being petty when JKR is spending her time making petty insults directed at him. Seems like both of them could do with growing up a little bit.

Apparently he was on amphetamines which he'd been told were good for people with ADHD. It was mental to see him. Pier Morgan actually seemed concerned.

Odd, because when my kids who have ADHD and are prescribed amphetamine based meds it calms them down not hypes them up. Of course if you take these drugs and are NOT ADHD, they tend to have the type of effect OJ exhibited. But that would mean he was illegally obtained drugs…

Because she has spoken in defence of Israel, so appears to be condoning a genocide which has killed tens of thousands of women and children.

And her & many prominent GCs mock pro Palestine activists, ie people with hearts who cannot stomach to watch a live streamed genocide.

It must be racism. So it’s very disappointing to see that the TRAs were right. Many GCs are bigoted racists who, far from having a rounded analysis of gender ideology, are just transphobic.

She has influence and lots of people take her racism as approval for their own. At this point, silence is complicity. That’s why she should speak out.

Because the BBC describes Hamas as genocidal but not an actual genocide as genocidal.

Because at this stage anyone who isn’t speaking out about the atrocities that our government is involved in in Gaza is a complicit.

Because in October 2023 it was understandable to think this came out of nowhere, but almost two years on everyone has had time to realise that Isreal has been occupying and raping Palestinians since 1948.

Then consider me complicit because I think your talking through your arse.

"Did they call the death of 377,000+ Yemenis a ”genocide”? No
Did they call the death of 236,000+ Afghans a ”genocide”? No
Did they call the death of 5,400,000+ Congolese a ”genocide”? No
Did they call the death of 500,000+ Sudanese a ”genocide”? No
Did they call the death of 500,000+ Syrians a ”genocide”? No
Did they call the death of 500,000+ Somalis a ”genocide”? No
Did they call the death of 300,000+ Iraqis a ”genocide”? No
Did they call the death of 50,000+ Libyans a ”genocide”? No"

Where's all the flag waving for them, where's the protest, the criminal damage, the chant's of bigotry for them.

No, he posted a video two years ago on YouTube called “So, I have ADHD “. In which he explains (from around 7:50 mark in the video) that he was diagnosed by a qualified psychiatrist, ie a medical doctor. So in light of that I’d say that Rowling’s joke about illicit drug use was in pretty awful taste, as are many of the comments on this thread.

Edited

To be fair, illegal drug use in adult ADHDers is very high due to impulsivity and the desire to self medicate. Also working as a scaffolder. Or being in prison. I know little of OJ so all or none of these may apply to him 🤣

It is possible to support Israel's right to exist and also to feel horror at the deaths of innocent children in a brutal war. It is not either/or. One can also be heavily critical of military tactics and of Netanyahu's government, without having to engage in death chants for a whole nation.

What those supposedly 'pro palestine' activists want is for people to completely demonise Israel as a country and demonise all Israeli people, plus anyone who supports Israel's right to exist, or who has friends of family there ( " Zionists"). There can be no empathy for Israel at all, which is why many just want to ignore or minimise the terrible things that were perpetrated on that day.

They'd be better off calling for the demise of Hamas if they really cared about the palestinian people. Because Hamas cares not one bit about them - except as ideological pawns in their jihadi war.

Owen Jones is an absolute prick. And I say that as a lefty who disagrees with a fair bit of what JKR says. Although I also respect her hugely and think she is very funny.

How dare he tell her what she should be speaking out about? His Twitter diatribe about her 'silence" was just excruciating.

He gives the left a bad name.

UrsulasHerbBag · 09/07/2025 09:17

As @ArabellaScott says do not forget how this man makes his living. If he doesn’t stir up controversy he doesn’t get the clicks, he doesn’t get invited to talk shows and he fades into obscurity. I wish he would though.

Shortshriftandlethal · 09/07/2025 09:18

ArabellaScott · 09/07/2025 08:59

Actually I expect the grubby truth is that like Jo Maugham, Jones knows that talking about/attacking JKR is a surefire way to generate clicks.

This is how he makes a living, remember.

Which is why he is still on 'X' when the rest of the purists have migrated to bluesky.

He completely dismantled him, Dean was in bosnia, afghanistan, etc (as a Jihadi) he worked as a bombmaker, he’s well versed in ideology, is a practicing muslim, can explain Islamic thought (and history of islamic thought ) and arab, levantine and north african history comprehensively.

You may not always agree with him but misinformed he’s not.

Hello. Genuine question - what do you suggest i do about this that might have a useful impact?I don’t like what’s happening but I’m also not in a position to do anything. I’ve got a job/kids/company/caring responsibilities so my time is very limited. But also I really don’t like what’s happening either side is doing and it’s such a complex situation I do t think my uninformed voice will help. But I’d like to hear your POV on this

HaveYouActuallyDoneAnyWashingThisWeekMum · 09/07/2025 09:22

Why should a prominent person who speaks out on one issue that’s important to them speak out on other issues? Should JK speak out on climate change, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Sudan?

I don’t understand the current obsession with lumping all important world issues into one “omnicause” where people’s views are neatly aligned. Did this start with social media? God forbid you stray outside the neat simplistic pro / anti binary approach to all world events.

This thread is incredibly discriminatory and disparaging of people with ADHD and who take medication for it. Disagree with OJ but to make digs at him implying drug use (and actually JKR wasn't original with that comment as it was used to describe others on social media) is immature. OJ has recently posted again and even showed his NHS prescribed amphetamine medication - which is horrible that someone has to "prove" their illness because the only way people have been able to debate him is to make untrue personal slurs.

ThatCyanCat · 09/07/2025 09:31

He's just a classic chauvinist pig trying to dictate what women do and don't talk about and moralise at them. He knows who the women are when he tells them what to do.

HunnyPot · 09/07/2025 09:31

Quirkswork · 09/07/2025 08:43

Such a strange approach to things. Why should JK speak out about anything at all? Particularly something that is nothing to do with her?

Not the first time I’ve heard that said about her.

Shortshriftandlethal · 09/07/2025 09:31

Has anyone ever considered how in spite of this supposed 'genocide' ( the calculated and sytematic destruction of a whole people) the Palestinian population has actually increased over the decades, and not decreased - as one might expect?

The reason for that is that the women are kept almost perpetually pregnant. Hamas and those who support them see children as weapons of war. They are born to be martyrs. You'd think that in terrible conditions of war and refugee camps that men would leave women the fuck alone, and stop impregnating them.

I saw one piece of footage ( it was even on the BBC...which was came as a great surprise), which showed one young woman in a refugee camp in Gaza.....she had just had a baby.....and it was evident that she was being raped on a regular basis by many men.

"Afaf Abdel Mohsen: "Why do the Palestinians give birth to so many boys and girls? I heard a beautiful answer to this question: 'We give birth to so many so that we can push them to death, to martyrdom.'"

Rhythmisadancer · 09/07/2025 09:32

I've just seen him a clip of him wanging on because a group of female MPs have had the temerity to have some sort of commemoration of the suffragettes, instead of talking about Palestine Action, as he the Great Oracle has prescribed must be the only topic anyone may speak about this week. He is such a tool.

myheartskipsskipsabeat · 09/07/2025 08:39

He actually speaks a lot of sense and has consistently spoken out about the genocidal intent of Israel. Truth is JK Rowling hasn’t spoken out about the genocide and is clearly irritated that he called her out.

Yep!

Exactly this. And I'm fucking fed up with inadequates mis-using real conditions to justify their fucking awful behaviour.

OJ's 'I self medicated for my ADHD symptoms' and Gregg Wallaces' 'I'm a sleazebag because I have diagnosed myself as having autism'.

They disgust me.

inspiringminionquote · 09/07/2025 09:38

OJ and so many others like him just see every woman, other than those they want to shag, and even them, eventually, as a big mummy replacement who should be doing the cleaning, the cooking, and the caring about every single human tragedy alive. While OJ gets to pontificate on Twitter and on Piers Morgan (of course, if JKR was interviewed by PM, that would be a huge stain on her character). So when any mummy-replacement woman doesn't do as OJ and co think they should, they have a little tantrum.

zerofeeling · 09/07/2025 09:39

I don't like OJ always found him shallow and smug, he's been getting away with it for years because he looked about 15 even in his mid thirties.

People were taken aback by his appearance and behaviour on Morgan's show (didn't see it, only the clips on Twitter which I initially thought might have been doctored) - he looked gaunt and twitchy and might have a serious problem.

I really admire JKR for her stance on women's rights but I think she probably should have resisted the temptation to join in the attack, it did look a bit petty.

If so, how very on-trend.

Shortshriftandlethal · 09/07/2025 09:06

As you must be aware....genocide is a heavily contested term. People can talk about the conflict without heaving to refer to it as "a genocide". But let's acknowledege what brought about this awful situation in the first place...and that was the planned massacre of people living in Israel.

Women were gang raped and one woman had her breast sliced off as that happened. Another woman's body was paraded around on the back of a truck for men to spit on. Women were stripped, tied to trees and had their genitals mutilated. Children were shot in their beds. Teenage girls were raped in front of their parents.

Edited

This.

SionnachRuadh · 09/07/2025 09:41

I first bumped into OJ when he was 17, and he was a smug wee git even then. He gave himself such airs that everyone joked about him as "future MP Owen Jones".

But surely it's unfair to doubt OJ's feminist credentials when he's energetically backing Zack Polanski for Green leader.
