What do whips, spandex and dog masks have to do with Pride?

They're kinks/fetishes right? Not related to sexual orientation. Also why are they anything to be 'proud' of? Your closest friends would probably find it pretty odd (and stomach turning!) if you told them your OH likes to wear your undies, or what gets you off is him licking your feet... Why is proclaiming what should be personal and private turn-ons to the general public any better? Why should they be glad for you in any way for being so open about it?

Do you think my kids have ever been harmed by seeing a costume at a pride event? Really?

PeonyPatch · 07/07/2025 17:39

Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should springs to mind.

SirChenjins · 07/07/2025 17:39

Do you expose your children to your fetishes @Maddy70 ?

What costumes have your children seen at Pride?

Where is the line, costume wise, for you in terms of what you will expose your children to?

You think porn is the same as a costume?

You think porn is the same as a costume?

Can you deny that some fetishes include costumes?

And can you deny that there are some costumes that children should not be exposed to?

Helleofabore · 07/07/2025 18:09

What is the significance in describing a preference for a type of person and a fetish that revolves around leather wear? I don't see how this is comparable, and I don't see how someone's preference in what they find attractive for a potential partner to look like is relevant for this discussion about fetish wear at a Pride parade. Am I missing the relevance?

Maddy70 · 07/07/2025 18:09

Many fetishes include costumes. That doesn't mean that children seeing a costume are going to be affected. If my kids are someone dressed as a banana I don't worry that they will develop a food fetish. So much pearl clutching

So, a child seeing a person in a dog costume (pup play) or carrying a whip in leathers, or wearing a gag mask is all ok to you?

Helleofabore · 07/07/2025 18:12

It isn't about the child developing a fetish.

It is about age appropriate exposure to sex and sexual fetishes. It is about children's boundaries and their safeguarding.

Your banana example is disingenuous.

Of course it's ok if you don't want to wear leather don't... Those that do I frankly don't give a shit. Do whatever you want

Helleofabore · 07/07/2025 18:13

Is this going to be like a repeat of the dogs with butt plugs in IKEA thread?

You didn't answer the question I asked at all. You have just given an answer to a question I did not ask.

But Ok. You have just said "a child seeing a person in a dog costume (pup play) or carrying a whip in leathers, or wearing a gag mask is all ok to you"

Thank you for confirming that.

Maddy70 · 07/07/2025 18:16

Sorry that was to the previous poster

MrsOvertonsWindow · 07/07/2025 18:16

Bingo - another allegation of pearl clutching.
From a poster pontificating about "twinks". Who of course are our teenage and older sons. Something very grim about how the young are objectified by so many grubby old men and the like.

SirChenjins · 07/07/2025 18:19

Did you see my questions @Maddy70 ?

I thought so, Mrs O. I thought the dismissal of the specific objectification of young men quite startling.

I also couldn't see the relevance.

Oh behave 😀

virtually all my 50+ friends have a leather jacket…but we don’t trot around with whips and men on a lead

Do you mean you haven't got out your chaps, gag mask and whips?

All ok apparently. All part of 'just wearing leather'.

Why should people be ashamed of being into leathers?

You seriously implying, if not flat out saying, that people should be ashamed of who they are is exactly why those are part of PRIDE too, as that's at the core is what's it about - accepting and loving people of all makes, besides haters.

Nobody should be ashamed of wearing leathers or pretending to be a German Shepherd so long as no-one gets hurt, phsycially or emotionally. But why should anyone celebrate their choices? Pride was originally about raising awareness of homosexuality and to celebrate it's legalisation. Homosexuals were marginalised, discriminated against, persecuted and prosecuted. They were unable to live full lives without fear and dread. On the other hand, sexual kinks are just that. Gay, straight and anyone in between are legally and consensually free to do whatever they like in their own homes or dedicated clubs and always have been since time began. So why should I or anyone else celebrate the fact that Nigel next door likes to dress like a five year old girl and wear a nappy any more than celebrating the fact that I like chicken and chips?

PeonyPatch · 07/07/2025 18:40

It is indecent to display this kind of thing in public.
