Univ of Pennsylvania agrees to strip Lia Thomas of titles

Under an agreement reached on 1 June with the U.S. Dept of Education (DOE), the Univ of Pennsylvania has agreed to rescind swimmer Lia Thomas's wins and records, to prohibit transgender athletes from participating in women's athletics, and to restore the records and titles previously set by female U Penn swimmers.

U Penn has also agreed to issue personal letters of apology to all women athletes who were affected by Thomas's year-long participation on the women's swimming team.

The agreement will settle a DOE investigation into U Penn's violation of U.S. law against sex discrimination in education.

we were offered psychological services to attempt to re-educate us to become comfortable with the idea of undressing in front of a male.

Ooh look, it's actual conversion therapy.

I have no sympathy at all for this man, who cynically exploited women and everyone's willingness to try and be kind. I hope the example puts off many other men and means they look for their own sporting opportunities, which will separate out the men in it for the sport and the men in it for the opportunities to control, abuse and harass women.

Delighted with this.

And not a single cell in my body feels sorry for the predatory male that is Thomas.

This.

Waitwhat23 · 02/07/2025 08:39

William knew exactly what he was doing. He's a cheat and (at best) a voyeur.

The University of Pennsylvania demanding that women undergo 'reeducation' in order to make them shut up about being forced to change with a creepy man is vomit inducing.

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 02/07/2025 08:43

I am delighted at this news and have not one iota of sympathy for William at all. He knew what he was doing, he enjoyed dominating and intimidating those women knowing there was nothing they could do and he stole prizes and opportunities that he had no right to.

MagpiePi · 02/07/2025 08:44

"Competing on the women's swim team in 2022, Thomas shattered school swim records, posting the fastest times of any female swimmer."

This should read:

"Competing on the women's swim team in 2022, Thomas shattered school swim records, posting the fastest faster times than any of the of any female swimmer, because he was a cheating male."

INeedAPensieve · 02/07/2025 08:46

Lia also walked about with lias erect penis in the locker room, Lia is in short, another perverted man who enjoyed dominating the sport and dominating the women of that sport. For sexual kicks and giggles.

No sympathy whatsoever for that creep.

Brefugee · 02/07/2025 08:47

saw a tweet from one of the swimmers who shared a screenshot of a txt from one of her teammates who supported Thomas, from way back when Riley Gaines started the ball rolling.

The txt just complains about the swimmer's transphobia and how awful she is. The tweet just says "haha, she'll be getting the apology letter too"

MrsOvertonsWindow · 02/07/2025 08:11

Excellent news. Wonder whether anyone in the Uni will be held to account for this travesty?

You have to hope so. Several someones made the decisions that led to this complete fiasco.

Brefugee · 02/07/2025 08:49

meanwhile over on Bluesky there is a mass meltdown about how transphobic Penn State uni is.

Lafufufu · 02/07/2025 08:50

I have ZERO sympathy for Thomas.
Zero.

And 💯 believe this is the right outcome

HOWEVER while my initial thought was Yessss, My second was one of conflict.

Because it's the right result delivered by the wrong means.
Trump is essentially exercising dictatorship like power which potentially gives a platform / rationale to validate the lunatic claim they are oppressed and persecuted vs. AGP space invaders antenna who want to leverage opportunities specifically for women to advance themselves who will conveniently ignore and obfuscate around the fact penn state offered psychological services to attempt to re-educate us to become comfortable with the idea of undressing in front of a male.

womanbornn · 02/07/2025 08:56

some of the reporting is just bullshit. Fastest time
of any female swimmer? This is a man, a male!

dudsville · 02/07/2025 08:59

Thanks for posting OP, this made me grin and really moved me.

Boston365 · 02/07/2025 09:01

Good! It is an absolute travesty that it was allowed to happen in the first place, what those girls had to endure to pander to feelings of a man was truly awful.

Lia can go cope. Let this be the first of many girls / women’s records being rightfully restored to females.

I didn’t think anything could make me feel slightly sorry for Lia Thomas, but that does.

i can’t get over the absolute stupidity of the academic authorities who allowed this situation to arise and are going to end up publicly humiliating Lia, having allowed the female athletes to be publicly disrespected by Lias participation in the first place. Idiots.

I might feel sorry for him if he had come across as less self centred.

Every interview was just me me me me me, myself, I, living my dream, me me me me, my best life yadda yadda.

I thought it was about Title IX and funding. Not so much a dictatorship as applying the law.

Blatant lies and misrepresentation of the scientific consensus from CNN:

"Some critics claim transgender athletes have an unfair advantage in sports, but that’s not what the research shows.

While research is limited and ongoing, a 2017 review in the peer-reviewed journal Sports Medicine found “no direct or consistent research” showing trans people have an athletic advantage.

A more recent October 2023 review of the research concluded that sex differences do develop following puberty, but many are “reduced, if not erased, over time by gender affirming hormone therapy.”

Physical attributes that could work in a trans girl’s favor, like height or limb length, for example, appear to be “less malleable,” the study said, but it also pointed out that there are no efforts to restrict cisgender athletes who are taller than average or exceptionally gifted physically in any other way".

www.google.com/amp/s/amp.cnn.com/cnn/2025/07/01/us/upenn-transgender-women-sports-lia-thomas

If - IF there was any measure in place to limit 'trans' competitors only to those whose reach or height etc lay within the normal female range, even including female outliers, this might be a coherent argument. But the fact that this argument ignores the fact that females with male typical limb length are extremely rare, whilst within the male population such individuals are common, and that qualifying female athletes by gender identity doesn't exclude any males, including those who are outliers in the male category, means it is disingenuous, dishonest bullshit.

illinivich · 02/07/2025 09:12

Thomas showed how much people would lie for TRA.

Thomas is a huge guy, obviously male performing very well in the womans events, and people claimed he was 5 foot 7, not winning events and indistinguishable from the other competitors.

FortyElephants · 02/07/2025 09:14

How can anyone feel sorry for this person in his high cut swimming costume and visible bulge? It's repellant. (And by which I don't mean his body is repellent, but what this image represents)

Brilliant news. Not only do I not feel sorry for him, I detest him and all the others like him who have done this to female athletes.

I honestly don't. I do agree that the authorities are hugely responsible for their own idiocy but he knew what he was doing at every step.

Supporterofwomensrights · 02/07/2025 09:22

Fantastic news. I'd like them to hold medal awarding ceremonies again with the female students' families.

Huge congratulations to the students who stood up, at great cost to themselves. Yes, the political environment has made a big contribution too but I knew all about this before Trump became president again - and that's due to the women who stood up and said 'no'.

In this context, his body is repellant.

It is a male body in a female race.

It is a male body in a female changing room.

It is symbol of all that is wrong in this debate

If the Democrats had sane policies then we may not have even got Trump

I am glad I never had to make that choice.
