You understand biology, so you must agree single-sex facilities are needed due to biology.

Lockable areas yes for when you are using the toilet or changing for example

Hospital wards?

I think you said mixed sex wasnt ideal. I was asking whether single sex is preferable?

Im sure most would prefer it. Most hospitals try to avoid mixed where possible.

BettyBooper · 29/06/2025 17:35

Flags flags Glastonbury flags.

There's fewer trans flags now because it's no longer as popular. Loads more people have seen that it's nonsense and are backing away slowly.

The ones who were into it to be in the in crowd have now taken up other flag(s) instead 🤷.

People have moved on. It isn't edgy anymore, just a bit cringe.

Erm... Most hospital trusts claim to provide single sex wards while having a policy of accommodating patients on the ward that aligns with their gender identity.

Ok. Personally I have no issue with sharing a ward with a transgender person. The only time I wouldnt be happy is sharing with someone who clearly needed to be in a secure hospital instead. That would make me feel unsafe

One woman was raped on a single sex ward and withheld video evidence from the police for a whole year whilst they refused to admit that a man was placed on there. They said it couldn't have happened because there were no men on the ward.

It's the fact that they are men that are the issue.

Extreme as in more than the usual negativity found on MN.

Oh no, not NEGATIVITY. Such extremism!

There's a thread in feminism chat by a woman who was in a ward post a gynae op and very vulnerable, with a transwoman who told the nurses he had had no surgery. Happy with that?

It's well known that most sexual crimes are committed by men. It doesn't change my feelings on who I would feel most unsafe around.

Surely that depends on context?

How about waking up after a general anaesthetic?

Or after a gynae op immobilised with a spinal block with only dressings (no underwear).

And there’s a Trans identifying male in the bed opposite (who during conversation on the ward revealed they had not had their penis removed)?

You’ve said you’re not scared of that sort of situation. How about your feelings of privacy or dignity? Or are you generally free and easy with your body around others?

Look if I dont have my own room then I'm aware I'm going to be sick and vunerable around strangers. Which isnt great. But if I'm with a mix of people which includes a normal sane decent man and also includes someone who clearly needs mental health intervention (male or female) its definitely going to be the person requiring moving to a mental facility that will make me feel the most unsafe. Honestly I'm not lying on that. If one person is sane and decent and the other is completely unhinged then sex doesn't come into it for me.

Well where do I start? Running around the room panicked and talking to themselves, laughing loudly and uncontrollably to themselves. I'm sure you can appreciate what I mean! That would make me far more uneasy than simply a man being in the room.

murasaki · 29/06/2025 18:02

If i know its a mixed sex ward, then ok, not great, but I know. If it's pretending to be single sex and isn't, then not ok. A liar is in there.

I did. That’s how I know you’re lesbophobic, homophobic and misogynistic. It shines through every post.

There is an NHS policy which talks about one of their regular patients “a pre operative disinhibited transsexual male” who is accommodated on the female ward “when well” but is a risk to women “when having an episode”. How should the Trust deal with that?

I've no idea! Ask the experts

How much moving about would a person have to do before you become uneasy? The gynae example was moving about a lot and trying to interact with lots of patients. That could be ok but if you’re immobile from a spinal block maybe less so?

The expert opinion was they tried to guess what sort of day the person was having and then took a gamble on whether a woman would get hurt.

ETA women would be called transphobic and ignored if they complained even though the individual was known to be a problem. Because they were trans that person’s request seemed to have more validity than the women’s. Does that sound ok?

Ffs honestly. Can you really not grasp what I'm saying about for me sex doesnt come into determining how safe I feel around a person. Can you at least take that on board.
