I remain dubious. You might as well make one out of parma violets.

Parma violets are disgusting. I’ve had a lavender Earl Grey latte type thingy which was very pleasant though.

Parma violets are ds' favourite Halloween sweet. He used to get all the PV from his friends who got some in their bags, he didn't even have to swap some of his sweets for them. Maybe we have "likes floral flavours" genes in the family.

One of the best things I've ever eaten on a plane was a lavender tart on an Air France flight. I was a bit dubious at first too but it was so good I still remember it.
Just checked and yes it's Costa that has a lavender iced whipped latte on it's summer menu.

I had a lovely lavender creme brûlée once. Still think about it now, and it was easily 20 years ago. But it's a difficult thing to get right - a hint can be great, but a shade too much and it's Granny's Knicker Drawer territory.

I like a spritz but they've got to be bitter or dry, preferably both. But I'd prefer something like a Negroni.

Not saying I even necessarily agree with the quote I posted. Just that I believe people should be able to voice their opinions as long as they don't break the rules.

And their opinions can be challenged. But OP just did a huge plop and fucked off to Reddit.

The fact that some women are evil is a distraction and doesn’t negate the risk that men as a group pose to women as a group.

I'm not sure, but I'd give it a bash. And Lavender Tart would be a great username, too.

Yeah, lavender needs careful dosing which is why I'm a bit reluctant about trying any of the various coffee shop offerings.
I had a Nordic Spritz last year in Tallinn and that was quince gin, cardamom syrup, lemon juice and sparkling water, it was very nice.

Yeah, they mostly can, although sometimes decisions are questionable. Mods are human. If OP was fussed then the best thing to do is to email them and ask.

Oooh, thanks, with Earl Grey as a bonus.
I looked at a recipe for a sweet woodruff tart today and it used 13 egg yolks 😮I might stick to making my usual woodruff panna cotta.

Not read the whole thread (nor am familiar with OP's posting history) but I've seen what they describe tbf.

Somebody mentioned the other day that women are the main perpetrators of non-sexual child abuse and several posters called them a liar, demanded proof, and literally said "I'm reporting this post". The post then suddenly disappeared along with several others by the same poster despite the linked studies being legitimate ones published by the US govt.

The posting seemed to me to be on topic (as opposed to being blatant trolling). The poster was just disagreeing with the popular opinion on here and saying that if we can't identify the good men then surely the same goes for women - people were backing up their argument with stats around male sexual assault so she mentioned female child abuse.

I think the admin sometimes just delete posts that have a few reports against them and assume that the poster will message them to query the deletion/ban if they're a genuine poster.

Do you remember which specific thread it was? I'd like to take a look.

Best she brings more! I've eaten misplaced the 20 bowls I nicked when she wasn't looking.

Bloody hell. I've been blaming @ArabellaScott and it was you all along!
Just waiting for @greencartbluecart to offload some of her frozen rhubarb, then I'll get back on it.

Btw, I haven't drunk alcohol for years (migraines😭) but I have discovered that if I make a Pimms with just one or two drops of Pimms in the lemonade (and the usual mint, strawbs etc) it still tastes like Pimms and doesn't give me a migraine! Worth a try for any sufferers

I was just replying to the thread title. I do feel that a fair few regular posters in the feminism section can be hostile to those that don't agree with them and I've seen some posts removed which at face value didn't appear to break the guidelines. Granted, they may have had a history which only the mods can see.

Not just in the gender section, in feminism section in general. One of the first threads I ever read on here was by a Muslim OP saying she was grateful to white feminists for using their privilege to help but that sometimes they trangress by trying to influence things they don't fully understand like how some ethnic women feel safer in traditional attire.

Quite a few forum regulars got really nasty, told her to literally "fuck off" and we're calling her a man ("OK dude" etc). A lot of the more hostile replies were deleted so obv were breaching the forum rules. I dunno it left a bad taste in my mouth tbh. I feel like there are quite a few who preach about privilege but don't like it when the table is turned. And it's a common thing to call somebody a man if they don't agree.

Can't really be arsed to argue it chapter and verse tbh. I know what I've read and how I feel about it. Obv my comments don't apply to everybody on here but there are a few territorial types for sure.

I didn't see that specific post and certainly not someone being told to fuck off for wanting to talk about race but I have seen non White (sorry, bloody awful phrase but in this case that is the point of commonality) women wanting to talk about their frustrations with White feminism and getting handwaved away with a sort of dismissive "We're all just Women dear". I'm white but I know I get pretty pissed off when men keep denying the impact of sexism on women because they aren't deliberately sexist, and I don't understand why it's so hard to accept the same dynamic might happen with race.

That thread was a good few years ago tbf - the white feminism one. The first one I mentioned was I think in the transwoman in hospital bed one that's still up. I'm not having a pop at anybody here, it was just an example of somebody posting something that was disagreed with and it then being reported and deleted.

The gist was that people were stating the common argument that usually goes "most men are fine but they still commit the majority of sexual assault and we can't tell which are the bad ones".

The poster basically amended the quote to point of that "most women are fine but they still commit the majority of child abuse and we can't tell which are the bad ones who might pose a danger". People called it bullshit and asked for proof, and then a couple of posters said they were reporting it, and it then got deleted.

PregnantBarbie · 24/06/2025 00:13

This was the original thread I mentioned.

What struck me about it was that a fair few of the posters being hostile were regulars whose posts I'd read on many previous occasions and had regarded as being pretty spot on. However, I appreciate white feminism is a touchy subject for some. However, I didn't see anything in the OP suggesting it might be a troll.

Without seeing the deleted post it's hard to comment but I think the extra context that the poster amended the quote is significant.

When you first mentioned it I was surprised it had had that reaction since I've seen the fact that women commit the majority of non-sexual child abuse raised here before and it's not been particularly pushed back - after all women do provide the majority of hours of solo childcare. (The stats might look different based on injuries per hour of care or on severity of injury but that's a topic in its own right and I don't to derail the thread this far in.)

However I had assumed it was just raised as a point in discussion. Amending that quote is kind of goady. There's a difference between a woman in a supposedly woman-only space with an unknown man, and a child subject to abuse from their caregiver. The first is easy to avoid - stop making exceptions for "special" men. The second much harder as children need caregivers and since society isn't really stepping up to enable both parents to be carers at the same time it's often done by an adult alone. They aren't equivalent situations, so I can see why a poster using the fact of non-sexual child abuse to try to score points against women wanting to maintain woman-only spaces would not go down well or raise suspicians of bad faith.

Yes, she posted several US gov studies. She seemed to be making her point quite respectfully whilst others were getting riled up. But I don't know the backstory I'll admit.

But it was the way people were saying things like "we see you. Fuck off with your untrue claims etc" and then were talking about reporting her. Then she posted some legit links and they were deleted by the mods almost straight away.

Maybe I didn't see the full picture but it looked like people just didn't like her pointing out the double standard and piled on with the reporting. I think the argument could've been dismantled quite easily with basic facts/data and would've been a better look.

MNHQ would not delete posts just because other posters request them too. Therefore maybe what you considered legitimate did indeed have a back story that you have said you don’t know about. For instance, it could have been a previously banned poster who was trolling.

It is likely that something was going on that caused MNHQ to pull a thread. They won’t do it without it being outside the guidelines.

A few drops of balsamic vinegar in lemonade also tastes like Pimms but without the alcohol 🙂

It isn't having discussions that stray from the opening post.

Are you sure that was here, not on AIBU or on Feminism chat? I don't remember seeing it. I have no doubt that women can treat children badly.

Kinsters · 24/06/2025 07:28

@PregnantBarbie it's not like Reddit here. The mods are not active members of the discussion forum in their capacity as moderators. So there is noone reading a thread and deleting the comments and links they disagree with. Sometimes things get hidden or don't show up and I don't know why, I assume it's a mistake.

There were some v rude and defensive posters on that thread who completely took offence to the title and the subtext (and kept reposting) but there were also many posters who defended the OP and thanked her for her perspective.

Quite often posters (not so much on FWR, more on AIBU) misread the original post and respond in a snarky manner. Some responses are downright cruel. However, on balance I see regular FWR posters engaging calmly even to goady posts asking for clarity and elaboration on these other perspectives. Much more than the Op deserves IMO but I appreciate the thoughtful replies.

Not sure what @PregnantBarbie your argument is here? That sometimes some regular FWR posters report posts?
