Boiledbeetle · 23/06/2025 20:03

I don't think I've ever actually had a Pimms. If I have I don't remember

Bannedontherun · 23/06/2025 20:11

I do too. I make some cordial every year. I usually make a batch of elderflower ice cream too.

Not read the whole thread (nor am familiar with OP's posting history) but I've seen what they describe tbf.

Somebody mentioned the other day that women are the main perpetrators of non-sexual child abuse and several posters called them a liar, demanded proof, and literally said "I'm reporting this post". The post then suddenly disappeared along with several others by the same poster despite the linked studies being legitimate ones published by the US govt.

The posting seemed to me to be on topic (as opposed to being blatant trolling). The poster was just disagreeing with the popular opinion on here and saying that if we can't identify the good men then surely the same goes for women - people were backing up their argument with stats around male sexual assault so she mentioned female child abuse.

I think the admin sometimes just delete posts that have a few reports against them and assume that the poster will message them to query the deletion/ban if they're a genuine poster.

I can't stand Aperol Spritz. In bars I like a Bramble or a Floradora.

A cocktail I invented for my rhubarb loving husband -

Double shot vodka
Single shot strawberry liqueur
Single shot lemon juice
Can of Cawston Press Rhubarb

I love a Pimms, or an Aperol Spritz or best of all, a Caipirinha made by my sister.
The Times thinks the Aperol spritz is being replaced this summer by Hugo. Hugos have been popular in Germany for a years.

Hugos are disgusting - but that's because they are usually sweet and i detest sweet (I am in Germany, i have tried many many Hugos)

Spritzers are very common here, i love an Aperol because they'Re bitter. The other day i had a lavender spritz and it was awesome.

@TwoLoonsAndASprout We may be on our own eating the jelly!

(This makes total sense if you are also reading a different current thread)

Did you keep any of @WithSilverBells’s Madagascan vanilla custard to go with, or do we need to get her to bring more?

How is it relevant? Are you suggesting we give up our rights to single sex spaces because some women are evil?

Best she brings more! I've eaten misplaced the 20 bowls I nicked when she wasn't looking.

I'm not sure what you're asking. My post is about people trying to censor opinions that they disagree with. In this example somebody saying "well, most women aren't bad either but we can't tell who the good ones are".

PregnantBarbie · 23/06/2025 21:04

I'm just catching up on the thread. It's odd that the relevance of my post is being questioned when there are dozens of posyers randomly spamming drink recipes. Isn't spamming again the talk guidelines on here? It is on most forums.

PregnantBarbie · 23/06/2025 21:05

Not saying I even necessarily agree with the quote I posted. Just that I believe people should be able to voice their opinions as long as they don't break the rules.

But they ARE able to voice their opinions as long as they don't break the rules. The OP (who doesn't seem to have come back) appeared to think MN is moderated in the same way as Reddit, when it's not, so posts are only removed if they've broken the rules.

Igneococcus · 23/06/2025 21:16

I have only ever reported one post but that was someone promoting a mounjaro sales site on a FWR thread.
A claim like " that women are the main perpetrators of non-sexual child abuse" isn't really an opinion as such, it's a statement that needs to be backed up. Did the poster supply any reference for this claim?

It depends how much cordial you add, the sweetness I mean.
Lavender is having a bit of a moment. I saw a lavender iced latte somewhere, Costa, probably since that is the only coffee chain out here and dd says she had a lavender matcha recently. I might have to raid my lavender bush in the garden.

PregnantBarbie · 23/06/2025 21:26

I was just replying to the thread title. I do feel that a fair few regular posters in the feminism section can be hostile to those that don't agree with them and I've seen some posts removed which at face value didn't appear to break the guidelines. Granted, they may have had a history which only the mods can see.

Not just in the gender section, in feminism section in general. One of the first threads I ever read on here was by a Muslim OP saying she was grateful to white feminists for using their privilege to help but that sometimes they trangress by trying to influence things they don't fully understand like how some ethnic women feel safer in traditional attire.

Quite a few forum regulars got really nasty, told her to literally "fuck off" and we're calling her a man ("OK dude" etc). A lot of the more hostile replies were deleted so obv were breaching the forum rules. I dunno it left a bad taste in my mouth tbh. I feel like there are quite a few who preach about privilege but don't like it when the table is turned. And it's a common thing to call somebody a man if they don't agree.

Can't really be arsed to argue it chapter and verse tbh. I know what I've read and how I feel about it. Obv my comments don't apply to everybody on here but there are a few territorial types for sure.

It's called chatting among a group of people. I've gotten loads of decent recipes/ideas/tips from threads before.

We normally get told off for posting cake receipes. I'm guessing people were looking for a bit of variety.

Just add recipe policed onto the list, I suppose.

Lavender??? I don't want a drink to smell like my granny's underwear drawer with all the lavender bags, thanks!

Yes, she posted several US gov studies. She seemed to be making her point quite respectfully whilst others were getting riled up. But I don't know the backstory I'll admit.

But it was the way people were saying things like "we see you. Fuck off with your untrue claims etc" and then were talking about reporting her. Then she posted some legit links and they were deleted by the mods almost straight away.

Maybe I didn't see the full picture but it looked like people just didn't like her pointing out the double standard and piled on with the reporting. I think the argument could've been dismantled quite easily with basic facts/data and would've been a better look.

One of the best things I've ever eaten on a plane was a lavender tart on an Air France flight. I was a bit dubious at first too but it was so good I still remember it.
Just checked and yes it's Costa that has a lavender iced whipped latte on it's summer menu.
