Late to this so may be missing the point , but please no one steal rhubarb - I have a freezer full of the stuff

I'm so going to win the curcurbite category this year.

Wow! They beat mine, although I’ll definitely win the cucumber category - I’ve got bazillions!

We could all have the picnic in my kitchen, if you like, while we wait for the weather at reddit to improve. Could also plan a MN Horticultural Show while we watch Arabella steal the rhubarb and save Boiled from drowning in custard.

This clique thing is fun.

Sounds heavenly - we’ve got to keep ourselves out of mischief somehow 🤣🤣

ArabellaScott · 22/06/2025 13:38

Ooh I might have to try that, thank you.

MiL gave me an old recipe for an ice made of blackcurrant leaves - apparatus very refreshing. I’ll try and dig it out.

Our cucumbers are only just flowering and the winter squashes have only male flowers open so far, it's early for us (West coast Scotland) to have courgettes. I'm absolutely drowning in NZ spinach (Tetragonia tetragonioides) at the moment, might have to make a spanakopita or similar for the picnic.

You have to gently cook it with maple syrup and ginger and then fold into madagascan vanilla custard before it becomes worthy of burglary. I am happy to do that for you, if you bring it with you🤗

greencartbluecart · 22/06/2025 13:59

Oh that sounds rather good and there is plenty to share !

greencartbluecart · 22/06/2025 14:00

Someone near here put my cucumbers outside whilst I was away … I have no cucumbers 😟

I have got 20 spare cucumber plants this year, I managed to get rid of 5 yesterday but I now have to make space for the 15 remaining ones as I am unable to throw them out.

spanakopita

🤣🤣 I had to read that twice, then go and look it up - sounds delicious!

Happy to swap cucumbers and blackcurrants for spinach - esp if it is in some nice pastry with feta 😉

I think maybe we should plan a MN Farm Swap Shop too🤔

@Boiledbeetle can you bring some plleeeeeease

Roystonv · 22/06/2025 14:23

Have you thought of making a liqueur with the overabundance of fruit? Obviously not going to be ready early enough for the picnic but if we were all patient? I know for many it is too soon but you could aim for C.....mas. Loving the rhubarb and custard pud. Some very well reasoned comments as always, thank you.

Waitwhat23 · 22/06/2025 12:29

I'm anticipating the AI picture from Beetle of Arabella in a burglar outfit (complete with swag bag) half inching the dessert!

Edited

Sorry, I was having a snooze. And I notice someone nicked the wonderful dessert whilst I snoozed!

True, blackberry gin would be nice.

No lawyer would get so riled about being questioned without there being something else going on in the background. I suspect George has a serious case of Cognitive Dissonance. Either that or really bad toothache.

I don’t agree about the something else in the background and see it simply as a bit defensive after her position on moderation was misinterpreted and challenged. Sometimes we do race from one post to the next and/or make posts in haste, threads can move quickly and clarity can be lost.

It was not wholly clear to me whether use of the term ‘trans rights’ was being made in terms of suggesting TW needed more rights than they currently have, but I don’t think that was the intention. Anyhow, this sums up my perspective:

To women, our rights and no less. To transpeople, their rights and no more.

I will soon be overrun with courgettes. I give it a week!

I've been making wine and liqueurs with overabundance of fruit for 20 odd years!

I went and bought a German fermenting thingy last year for the sloes. Anyway this is 1 of the branches of 1 of the blackberries. If I took a pic of the whole thing they were too small to see. Going to be picking very soon.

Next doors peach is also laden this year. They live 6 hours away so we get whatever fruit their trees produce in return for keeping their grass cut.

I'm glad to see
To women, our rights and no less. To transpeople, their rights and no more.
gaining traction.

In fairness I should say that it's based on a Toronto Men's Group slogan from I think the 1980s - I've never been able to find anything about the group online, but the slogan stuck in my head when I heard someone quoting it from memory ages ago.

Those were the days when Men's Groups were thinking about how to be less oppressive to women than how to be even more oppressive to women. The original slogan was
To men, our rights and no more. To women, their rights and no less.

Going to have to repectively disagree with you there I'm afraid.

The poster doubled-down in their next post:
But there are quite clearly people on this board who are opposed to trans rights and anybody suggesting that there is not is not being honest (perhaps even with themselves).
but repeatedly declined to explain what they meant.
