Agreed! Couldn’t have put it better myself.

Glamourreader · 19/06/2025 08:11

Yes, any tiny glimmer of liking it had for him has now disappeared. He's utterly unable or willing to give a crap about women.

He has totally shamed himself.

TwoLoonsAndASprout · 19/06/2025 08:11

He and the delightful Sandi “put your breasts away, breastfeeding women, polite people don’t want to see that sort of thing” Toskvig have ruined QI for me.

TwoLoonsAndASprout · 19/06/2025 08:14

Also Fry totally panders to his audience - he flip flops on JKR and trans issues all the time. Not just misogynistic, but totally lacking in any principles of his own.

Beowulfa · 19/06/2025 08:16

Stephen is a man who uses big words and knows clever stuff so he must be right. We should listen when a clever man tells us to shut up.

TheaBrandt1 · 19/06/2025 08:16

Reckon he found out about a social event he wasn’t invited to. Has that aggrieved petulant air

Did she really say that?? I didn’t like her before for her monumental betrayal of women with the WEP but that takes the biscuit.

JudyInDisguiseWithGlasses · 19/06/2025 08:16

I used to like him but since his nasty comments about child sexual abuse survivors some years back he has sunk in my estimation. He is a very fine actor and I loved him when he did Fry and Laurie, but each time he opens his mouth these days it seems load of uninformed crap comes out. It isn't even remotely funny or amusing, I'm no fan of Donald trump but at least he is halfway amusing when he opens his mouth because he is just so ridiculous it's like very bad comedy and not many people take him seriously whereas Stephen fry is considered a national treasure

yourhairiswinterfire · 19/06/2025 08:18

Howling that he thinks a woman who has spent decades setting up charities for and working with vulnerable women could only believe that women are entitled to our own rights and protections because she's been "radicalised" by feminists.

No Stephen. Women are human too, we have rights that need to be considered too, the world and the Equality Act doesn't revolve around what some men want. Get over it.

ZeusandClio · 19/06/2025 08:18

Wow, unsympathetic article. The author sounds biased, strange from the Daily Mail who are normally quite good on this subject.

borntobequiet · 19/06/2025 08:21

He’s always been a somewhat obnoxious person IMO. People who trade on their supposed “cleverness” often are.

BundleBoogie · 19/06/2025 08:21

He is monumentally confused :

'I disagree profoundly with her on this subject. I am angry she does not disavow some of the more revolting and truly horrible, destructive violently destructive things that people say. She does not attack those at all.

He is supporting the side that are revolting and truly horrible, saying violently destructive things though 🤷‍♀️

'She has crowed at the success of legislation in Scotland and elsewhere declaring things about gender.

’Crowing’ nice bit of misogyny there.

'So I am very happy to go on the record to say that I am really angry about that. My view about all things of sharp and difficult nature is that is is much more important to be effective than to be right.'

WTH!! So he knows he’s wrong but would rather be effective?? Effective at what??

What a repulsive little man.

javyd · 19/06/2025 08:23

this was an interesting quote he made on the podcast though. Whatever could it mean?
Is he saying that she’s right?

‘My view about all things of sharp and difficult nature is that is is much more important to be effective than to be right.'

He’s not wrong about being effective. In relationships being right is no comfort when it all goes pear shaped.

But she isn’t burning boats while standing on her virtue. She’s just, you know, getting on with helping women and children.

And yes he is a misogynistic turd, the kind who gives gay men a bad rep.

I read about it on here:

You put it so well, OP. What an unpleasant man.

I'm going to assume this is a joke.

Or, perhaps, you genuinely do believe the Daily Heil is a bastion of unbiased, verifiable fact? 🤔

UrsulasHerbBag · 19/06/2025 08:28

He has always been like this.

MinnieMountain · 19/06/2025 08:28

He’s a bit late to the JKR hating party isn’t he?

myplace · 19/06/2025 08:28

That effective rather than right quote is about pragmatism. He’s scolding her for falling out with Harry and Herm- she should be nice and keep them onside and patiently coax them along.

Think about Sheldon in Big Bang theory. Right, yet lacks influence because no one wants to listen.
JKR however is pragmatic and right and everyone is listening.

javyd · 19/06/2025 08:30

his husband is 30 years younger so he might have to toe the line in terms of what he believes

Shedmistress · 19/06/2025 08:30

My view about all things of sharp and difficult nature is that is is much more important to be effective than to be right.

How about Effective AND Right. Like JKR actually is?

At least he admits she is right. Well done fella.

TheaBrandt1 · 19/06/2025 08:30

They are normally quite good on this subject? Assume you are one of those “only the Guardian is an acceptable newspaper” types.

Cabbageheads · 19/06/2025 08:30

Fry and others like him know full well that men are a danger to women and that women have a perfectly reasonable need for single sex spaces, they just don't consider it to be that important. It's like background noise. He's supposedly an intelligent bloke, he knows.
