The Guardian - Trans Australian kicked out of toilet

That is a very good picture of what, IME, most women wear most of the time.

I respect anyone, male or female, who wants to make the effort to dress up (I love period drama), but most of the time women are just wearing clothes that fit their bodies and comfortable shoes.

They look female because they have female bodies, not because they are making an effort to present as a gender.

This is a good point. Is he saying if a woman wears say jeans jumper and trainers she must go in the men’s that day but can use the women’s if she’s in a dress?

I read that last night and somehow I just don't believe it happened. I certainly don't believe the bit about strangers clamouring in his defence!

No I don't, but just for a second let's say it is.

How did he know the toilet police was a woman?

Why didn't his girlfriends just take him in to the gents?

ScathingAngelAgrona · 15/06/2025 11:54

Maybe he identifies as a writer?

Of course he lives in Melbourne. I recall my husband being worried when I wore my “None Shall Pass” t-shirt to a gaming convention in Melbourne.

If we make that a rule, the massive toilet queue will change to the gents as more women wear trousers than wear skirts/dresses.

MarieDeGournay · 15/06/2025 12:07

I should have noted that the photo of Ed Iz is a photo of him in a queue for the women's toilet.

It's a notorious photo which has been posted here before, but I should remember that everybody hasn't seen every single thing that was ever posted hereSmile

The writing marks him out as a male aggressor. He sounds like he is, a male wearing an earring and dress demanding access to women’s facilities.

Has anyone done a study on the countries where self ID has become law and their figures on violence against w&g? I was reading about Denmark yesterday which made me think of this. I’ve worked with lots of Aussie males and their attitudes to women were incredibly dismissive. New Zealanders to a lesser extent but still patriarchal compared to the UK. Are we TERF Islamd because it’s actually (relatively) a good place to be a woman? That we have the means, method and education to fight back?

Toseland · 15/06/2025 12:16

What a testerical story. I'm surprised the bouncer touched his arm; I have an acquaintance who is a bouncer, he was once telling me, after doing a training course, there are many rules around touching clientele.

ItsCoolForCats · 15/06/2025 12:28

Interesting that in its continued coverage of the SC judgement, the Guardian has another story about some poor marginalised soul who is being denied the most basic of human rights - the right to pee (in the opposite sex toilets).

I wonder why they haven't reported on the fact that Adam Graham, AKA Isla Bryson, has said he is pleased that Victoria McCloud is challenging the ruling at the ECtHR, because it helps his case to be be put back in a women's prison. Why doesn't the Guardian focus on this aspect of the SC ruling 🤔

MassiveWordSalad · 15/06/2025 12:30

Over at transgenderuk there is surprise that the ‘terfy as fuck’ Guardian have run this story. Interestingly one post questions whether it’s a true story due to the speculative-fiction-author angle 🧐

theDudesmummy · 15/06/2025 11:04

So his view is basically that he can go into whichever loo he wants to?

Edited

His view appears to be if it's a choice between men potentially looking at him funny or women potentially being genuinely distressed/afraid the better option is to distress the women.
I think that's the bit they aren't supposed to say out loud.

Ginmonkeyagain · 15/06/2025 13:00

Also, while there are dickhead men everywhere, I find it hard to believe in a club venue in a very liberal and alternative leaning place like Camden (where KOKO is), that a man in a dress would get much trouble in the gents.

Last time I was at KOKO ther were loads of flamboyantly dressed men, including several in full make and at least one in a slashed to the naval sparkly cat suit.
London nightlife people are generally a tolerant bunch who have seen a lot.

EasternStandard · 15/06/2025 13:01

I’d rather hear from the woman dealing with men like this.

Why do the males always need to be centre, aided by the press.

mrshoho · 15/06/2025 13:13

Jack Nicholls is a British-Australian essayist and speculative-fiction writer based in Melbourne

This is obviously an example of his fictional writing. It's really very poor all round.

NPET · 15/06/2025 13:15

I don't get it! Would someone enlighten me?
I'm supposed to let a person with a p walk into a room in which I might be doing personal things, and be able to listen to me using the toilet, JUST BECAUSE THEY'VE DECIDED TO WEAR A DRESS?
So if I'm wearing jeans or chinos, I can just walk into a room in which me are spraying urinals and talking about women?

MzHz · 15/06/2025 13:23

OldCrone · 15/06/2025 09:24

We had the weeping (or crying - maybe Australians don't 'weep').

For a minute afterwards I stood crying against the wall.

Exactly!!! MUST BE A WOMAN, because they were crying.

FGS!

If only MN would allow us to edit after publication like other sites do!
Actually I've never sprayed a urinal in my life!

murasaki · 15/06/2025 13:28

You can edit for a short amount of time after posting. Not long though, a few minutes.

IllustratedDictionaryOfTheDoldrums · 15/06/2025 13:31

Okay, just read the whole substack. What a load of shite. Fiction writer indeed.

I expect they were doing the opposite. If anything.

PronounssheRa · 15/06/2025 14:19

Jack has locked his twitter account.

He really thought his entitlement and behaviour was completely acceptable and didn't count on push back.

murasaki · 15/06/2025 14:33

The silly man was probably getting it from both sides as the TRAs won't like him saying he's not a woman, and rational people think he should have gone to the men's.

lcakethereforeIam · 15/06/2025 14:40

I can't believe he got to 2 am before he needed a wee.

Thats the same Eddie Izzard who manages to identify as a male when it comes to acting roles and cross dressed for years and years before identifying as a woman whilst (presumably) using the gents without issue throughout his mere cross dressing period isn't it?

Just need to check its the same bloke who didn't have a problem with his safety in toilets until he identified as having a problem with his safety in toilets (and then apparently this unsafeness was ironically a bunch of teenage girls in the ladies!).

That Eddie Izzard?

RedToothBrush · 15/06/2025 14:44

lcakethereforeIam · 15/06/2025 14:40

I can't believe he got to 2 am before he needed a wee.

He's not got a bladder that identifies as feminine. Thats definitely a male sized bladder thats not gone through childbirth.
