This is a thread about “keeping the receipts” on NHS Policies prior to the Supreme Court ruling on 16th April 2025.

Our working theory is that there were no single sex spaces for NHS Staff or Patients in the entire country before that date, having all been removed by stealth.

We are aiming to prove this by auditing websites and policies for all the UK trusts and using the results to raise public awareness.

As well as recording what has happened historically, the information will form a baseline so we can check which Trusts comply or defy the judgement in due course...

We are working around the country region by region. If you fancy getting involved in a bit of grassroots feminism then please do join in to help!?

Each trust takes about an hour to research and you can upload online without giving any personal details away. Comment below and we can give you the link to an online survey - it changes for each region.

Oh gosh don’t worry. Let’s just do what we can. It’s seems obvious that there will be no watershed moment during this hearing for the NHS. And in some ways waiting until the actual tribunal coverage is over might be better/get us more air time?

And I’m sure for all of us it’s going to be mighty difficult to concentrate on anything other than that room in Dundee for the next 10 days?!

One thought - around the last Tribunal the DMs went down. If anyone wants to message me their GC anonymous email address just in case that might be good? Esp if we need to compare notes on pitching stories as we get near the end?

Yes, different people but the approach is similar. Though with the BBC it seems to have been more about building relationships and influencing internal decisions, I suppose because they don’t publish guidance in the way Dept of Health does. Thanks!

Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust nearly get there with the EqIA's (also reference Forstater in regards to Religion or Belief) but stop short of including any guidance on balancing rights:

"Potential negative – Cis men generally have a more negative view on the issue of trans than women.

However, cis women express greater concerns around use of single sex private
spaces, especially where there has been no reassignment surgery. The organisation takes a balanced view of all staff in approach and consideration."

Quick update below. I have to say that the tribunal has been quite an entertaining romp the last couple of days and has even started on time! So much for my theory of getting a trust done in the down time. Never mind, I think this tribunal will fire up a thirst for some of our data @KnottyAuty

Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust submitted. It is a mental health trust.
Nothing much new to report, they have no staff transgender policy at all. They openly state that their ward accommodation policy is "single gender" rather than single sex, they then repeatedly conflate sex and gender and it looks very confusing for anyone making the decision to admit, to decide who should be admitted where (e.g. they state that UNDER NO ACCOUNT should men be admitted to a female-only ward, however the wards are single-gender and trans patients should be admitted to the gendered ward of their choosing).
Their EqIA states " Data indicates that there were 91 trans service user admissions to our wards in 2021/22." no other details were provided as to which wards.

apologies I won't be able to take on another trust in this batch but if you move on to the Welsh trusts i should be back in time for them
