Pop star Jade Thirlwall led a crowd in a chant against author JK Rowling during her set at a London music festival celebrating LGBTQ+ culture.

The former Little Mix member, now performing solo under the name JADE, encouraged thousands of fans at Mighty Hoopla on Saturday to shout “F* J.K. Rowling” from the main stage.

The chant began when Thirlwall shouted “transphobes,” prompting the crowd to respond with “F you.” She then followed with “J.K. Rowling,” and the crowd again replied, “F you.”

Footage of the moment was posted on social media with the caption: “Jade, the legend you are!!!”

What a bizarre thing to do. That will not age well for her.

EweSurname · 02/06/2025 18:58

It’s a shame - I think she’s got a great voice and she seemed sweet. I wonder if she’ll ever come to understand alternative view points

NameinVane · 02/06/2025 19:00

I’d really love to see her next interviewer ask her what JK Rowling has done to deserve that and why she thinks she’s transphobic and press her for a proper answer

thedancingclown · 02/06/2025 19:01

She never struck me as the sharpest tool in the box, got to admit. Very insecure and just the type to jump on a bandwagon without understanding the underlying issues.

Orangemintcream · 02/06/2025 19:06

I assume she has a loved one who is trans or something.

But still bizzare as the event has nothing to do with Rowling ?!

DialSquare · 02/06/2025 19:08

Sounds like classic virtue signalling to her paying customers. I doubt she’s thought about it much at all.

Columbidae · 02/06/2025 19:10

She seems to have been a big supporter of the drag scene for years.

AthenaWhite · 02/06/2025 19:11

I went to a thing with a popular youtuber with my daughter a few years ago. He put a big picture of JK up for his audience to boo and get hysterical about. I had the biggest argument I have ever had with my daughter on the way home. Rank misogyny, hyperbole and just bloody lying. Pathetic.

WithSilverBells · 02/06/2025 19:12

I have a very big LGBTQ+ fanbase

I mean, that could be a clue?

Do these people not actually read?
Pick up a copy of 1984 or if not just watch the film
It doesn't end well

Llamasarellovely · 02/06/2025 19:18

It just makes me (& I suspect many others) admire her more. What it must have been like. So easy to buckle. She's faced absolute burn the witch hysteria. Utterly insane. And she's taken on the role of lightning rod for the weak and weak minded with grace and an absolutely vicious sense of humour (you can stop it now, Jolyon is already dead 🤣)
Whoever gets to eat chicken in a bucket with her is in the presence of greatness.

NecessaryScene · 02/06/2025 19:20

It's almost comical how one-sided the hate and bigotry is.

Have TERFs ever led a "fuck you" crowd chant about anyone?

Closest I can think of is a slightly over-excited audience booing someone's name (as if it was a pantomime) when mentioned as part of a serious factual discussion.

(This discrepancy between the two sides was one of the first things I noticed when I spotted this topic about 8 years ago, and helped me rapidly grasp that the other side didn't actually have any sensible arguments).

She is bisexual and her boyfriend (the guy from rizzle kicks) is a cross dresser

thedancingclown · 02/06/2025 19:28

Just find it ironic that someone who has rightfully called out bullying and online trolls is now thinking this is ok. Fair enough if you don’t agree with Jk but leading a chant like that does not really do much for either cause.

IwantToRetire · 02/06/2025 19:37

Are the opinions of JKR really the most important issue to which ever age group an event like this represents?

Or is it just an easy grand standing opportunity for those who dont want to think, but want to be seen as following a current trend.

Makes me almost long for the days when every self important leftie would love to start a chant of Maggie, Maggie, Maggie, Out, Out, Out.

Or is actual politics just something boring old old people do?

Hmm

Just to add thanks for all the info about who any of these people are!

Never heard of her. Dim witted and craving popularity.

Shortshriftandlethal · 02/06/2025 19:43

She's 32.......not 16, for God's sake!

People are taking so long to grow up these days. At that age I had three children and so knew that sex was real and that it has consequences

VioletSpeedwell · 02/06/2025 19:45

In an interview with Gayety, Thirlwall said: “I’ve always been quite vocal, and I’m not always going to get it right.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.

Has JKR ever said anything against being bisexaul or cross dressing inidivudals (old fashioned gender benders)?

This is the or another of the disturbing consequences of the misinformation campaign of Stonewall. All these people caught up in a false flag income generator.

If only society could sue Stonewall for creating antagonism and worse. Not quite a bad as the woman who posted misinformation on social media and ended up in prison, but taken as a whole over the years the damage they have done is enourmous.

And sadly, if they only had followed the "gender bender" purpose of breaking down gender stereotypes (ie the straight jacket of rigid society rules) 99.9% of the people running round saying they are being offended would just be getting on with their lifes wearing clothes and having interests of what used to be said to be the "natural" preserve of those of the opposite sex to which they were born.

I don’t think you can take pop stars very seriously. Didn’t Robbie Williams get carried away at a concert in Berlin and sing ‘Deutschland uber alles’
In fairness to the Germans, they booed him I think.
I suspect pop stars would do anything for the attention and adulation. As deep as a puddle.
I wonder if she has any sponsors to boycott.

BlackForestCake · 02/06/2025 20:35

Or is actual politics just something boring old old people do?

Actual politics isn't a thing people can get excited about any more.

Nobody believes that Labour will create jobs or build council houses, and nobody believes that the Tories will cut taxes or stop immigration. It's all one big neoliberal lump.

Nobody now expects their own life to get materially better through politics.

So the only things left to get angry about are various perceived injustices.

In a sense, identity politics has taken the place of class politics – which was the plan all along.

DragonRunor · 02/06/2025 20:35

Pop stars, like footballers, don’t automatically make great social commentators - because that involves doing the actual work of research and understanding.

littlebilliie · 02/06/2025 20:42

I’m sure Simon Cowell is delighted

LivelyFinch · 02/06/2025 20:47

She'll not get the job of the Harry Potter series theme tune that's for sure!
