Pop star Jade Thirlwall led a crowd in a chant against author JK Rowling during her set at a London music festival celebrating LGBTQ+ culture.

The former Little Mix member, now performing solo under the name JADE, encouraged thousands of fans at Mighty Hoopla on Saturday to shout “F* J.K. Rowling” from the main stage.

The chant began when Thirlwall shouted “transphobes,” prompting the crowd to respond with “F you.” She then followed with “J.K. Rowling,” and the crowd again replied, “F you.”

Footage of the moment was posted on social media with the caption: “Jade, the legend you are!!!”

It is depressing.

However it is good publicity for JKR. They don't understand though it seems fun to part of an anti-witch mob in the long run in strengthens opposition in a free society. They are never going to go after the pope or Islam. So it is shallow.

Lots of people on JKR's side double down every time they do this.

They keep making JKR trend again. She then sells more books, streams more films, sells more games.

SlackJawedDisbeliefXY · 03/06/2025 09:30

She then sells more books, streams more films, sells more games.

Earns more royalties and supports more causes

claretsage · 03/06/2025 09:31

I’m sure JKR is really concerned.

KnottyAuty · 03/06/2025 09:36

How is this not a public order offence?
incitement to violence is illegal…

RufustheFactuaIReindeer · 03/06/2025 09:43

I had to laugh at someone on SM saying that JK has lost everything including her career due to being transphobic, while Jades career is doing so much better

christ, people are stupid

LadyBracknellsHandbagg · 03/06/2025 09:53

Sadly, women like her who do the ‘pick me’ dance have no inkling of what their behaviour leads to for women in general, an overall increase in misogyny which can only lead to more VAWG. I honestly believe that women like her think female victims of male violence bring it on themselves, that if only those women would ‘be kind’ and accommodate men at all times then it wouldn’t happen.

Giggorata · 03/06/2025 10:09

ThanksForTheSong · 03/06/2025 08:53

Amongst the things she asked people to say fuck you to were misogyny, homophobes and JK Rowling. It just proves that she doesn’t understand the issues at all, like so many others, hating JK without listening to what she actually says and not thinking through how misogynistic and homophobic that trans ideology is.

I don’t know if it’s that Jade and others that do this are just really thick, or that they just jump on anything that they think will make them popular in the moment. Anyone that actually thinks through the trans ideology would realise it’s rooted in misogyny and homophobia, like JK speaks up on, so to say fuck you to misogyny, homophobes and JK is very contradictory.

I had to laugh at someone on SM saying that JK has lost everything including her career due to being transphobic, while Jades career is doing so much better. 😂

Yes, this covers what I think about it.

I don't suppose JKR gives a damn - but I do.
Apart from being stupid and misinformed, it is also incitement.

NewGoldFox · 03/06/2025 10:21

Just the type of behaviour expected from a #bekind

TheAutumnCrow · 03/06/2025 10:56

LittleBitofBread · 03/06/2025 08:16

Has JKR ever said anything against being bisexaul or cross dressing inidivudals (old fashioned gender benders)?
She's never even said anything against trans-identifying people, beyond that everyone should stick to facilities etc for their own sex.

And I'm sure I recall her expressing love toward people she knows who identify as trans (my wording at the end there, not hers).

TheAutumnCrow · 03/06/2025 10:59

I wish the police and politicians - supposedly soooo against WAWG, pass the virtue bong, Yvette love - would properly investigate incendiary misogyny in performative crowd environments and online.

I've heard about the virtue bong before - it sounded interesting until I realized that you have to burn pieces of 'big girl pants' in it for it to work properly

Ereshkigalangcleg · 03/06/2025 11:07

ISTR she is a public Mermaids supporter. So clearly not hindered by a surfeit of self awareness.

SnoopyPajamas · 03/06/2025 12:54

This is disappointing, but not wholly unexpected. I was really enjoying JADE's solo stuff up to now. I knew she was mad about drag, but in the current culture many female pop stars are. They're enamoured with the flamboyant aesthetic and they see it as a way to honour their gay fans.

It's misguided, but I tend to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume it's coming from a place of well-intentioned ignorance, unless they do something that really crosses the line into malice. With JADE, my radar was already up because she's British. The propaganda is much stronger in America, but it's harder for a British act to be ignorant of all the good faith gender critical arguments that have arisen in the last few years. She's not living in an LA bubble. She's supposed to have her feet somewhat on the ground. For a British woman to be so aggressively pro-drag, knowing how the tide is turning against it, is a statement in itself.

Then I noticed she'd changed the cover art for her song "FUFN" on Spotify, to a picture of a pair of Y-fronts with "FUFN" pooled around the ankles of someone sitting on a toilet. This was after the Supreme Court victory. It was clear what she was getting at. I hoped I was wrong - or that if I was right, this was as far as she would be silly enough to go. Apparently not.

Lots of women who proclaim feminist identities have not really thought things through, or reflected in a systemic way. Their brand of feminism is a cultural product that it is fashionable to buy into, but it has no roots and no consistency.

SnoopyPajamas · 03/06/2025 13:06

It's disappointing, because I had really liked her solo output, and was looking forward to the album. I would have been happy to support her, if she hadn't proven herself so vicious in defense of the cult. Anyone can be misguided, and I'm willing to cut people slack, up to a certain point.
But I'm also happy to cut her from my Spotify rotation, if this is how she wants to behave. And I had enough doubts that I held off on buying tickets to her show.

I'm very much a normie about celebrities. It really does come down to whether or not I liked the art. I don't follow anyone on social media, so I tend to miss a lot of the minor details. I didn't know about her cross-dressing boyfriend, for example, or her apparent support of Mermaids. Both new information to me, courtesy of the ladies of this thread! Something has to be big enough to make headlines, for me to hear about it.

JADE has now hit that point, just like David Tennant and Pedro Pascal did before her. I'm curious how it will impact her career. I suspect there are a lot of women like me, who would have listened to her music quite happily, but hear about something like this and think "oh, fuck you" instead. I was a big fan of Lorde's early albums and felt her new one sounded like it might be a return to form. Then I made the mistake of reading her recent Rolling Stone interview. Long story short, she gets all starry-eyed and excited about binding in it, and starts waffling on about her gender identity. I immediately removed the album from my Spotify pre-saves, and when her new song Man of the Year was recommended to me, complete with single art of Lorde's duct-taped breasts, I rolled my eyes and ignored it.

GingerBeverage · 03/06/2025 13:13

Did she really go ahead and perform at the festival so many other artists have boycotted?

SnoopyPajamas · 03/06/2025 13:32

It all just makes you wonder where the PR people for these artists are, and if they're doing their jobs at all. Are they trying, and just failing to rein in those massive celebrity egos? Or have they swallowed the propaganda themselves, to the extent that they pretend not to see how hard this will hit the bottom line?

They must know by now that going in all guns blazing for the TQ cult is a loser. It's not even a case of "culture wars" or left vs right anymore. Ordinary people are just sick of hearing about it. They want their favourite celebrities to put the loudspeakers away and entertain. No-one wants to be lectured to when they're trying to have fun. And it's especially dangerous to do so on an issue evidence suggests a silent majority is at odds with the media about. If people continue to buy JK Rowling's books in the millions, despite the media's hysterical attempts to deride her as modern-day Hitler, what does that tell you?

We've seen this so many times now. The minute people get a chance to anonymously express their opinion, they do. They quietly support the people they agree with, and ignore the ones they don't. It's a case of "You're going to deride me as a bigot and shame me out of speaking up? Okay, fine. I won't tune into your stuff anymore." And then we see these huge, catastrophic flops, of franchises which believed they were too big to fail, and artists who thought everyone would love them unconditionally.

I wonder how much of an effect this will have on JADE's career. I think her shilling for the cult might have already been holding her back more than she realises. Despite the objective quality of her songs, none of them have really broken through in America. I wonder if little things like the "ladies and gentlemen, theys and thems" in her lyrics turned audiences off more than expected.

And I wonder if she's struggling in the UK for the same reason. I notice her tour is playing much smaller venues than you'd expect. I'm sure there will be some spin to cover that, but to me it suggests the tickets simply aren't selling. It's not that the music isn't good enough for all those zillennial former Little Mix fans to enjoy it. So why aren't they showing up for her? I thought it was curious. I'd look at these venues and listen to the music and think "why isn't JADE bigger?" But now I think I was missing the puzzle piece of her social media presence. It must have been turning people off for a while now.

And instead of taking that on board and going for a course correction, she's chosen to double down. I almost feel sorry for her, actually. She's setting fire to her own career, and for what? Drag queens? Women are a much bigger audience. It's a stupid choice.

Cosmosforbreakfast · 03/06/2025 14:24

Sometimes solo careers don't go very well, the has been publicity go to is to jump on the JKR bandwagon. I doubt JKR much cares what a former girl band member has to say about her.

Abhannmor · 03/06/2025 14:24

LivelyFinch · 02/06/2025 18:56

What a bizarre thing to do. That will not age well for her.

Nope. It might yet rank with Eric Clapton's rant about foreigners way back. But he has genuinely apologised afaik. Perhaps the same will happen with Jade. Too bad the Internet is forever.

Plasticwaste · 03/06/2025 14:49

If she was actually smart and looking to play the long game, she'd be leading a pro-JK chant. Yes, there'd be short-term pain from TRAs but she'd have an instant new audience supporting her and her streams would be flying up the charts.

Supporting troonery is very old hat.

Yes, if it isn't already clear the LGBT community are not supportive of her.

I’m sure Simon Cowell is delighted

He probably is actually, he strikes me as a "any publicity is good publicity" type.

As for Ms Thirwall, I read the OP and thought what a silly girl, but then a PP pointed out that she's in her 30s so I changed that mindset to one of FFS, shut up and grow the fuck up.

SionnachRuadh · 03/06/2025 15:45

I tend to be quite normie about the artists I like too. Someone once gave me the very good advice that, if you like Stevie Nicks, do NOT subscribe to her Instagram, because she is so up herself it'll put you off her music.

That's not even to mention the artists who believe we need to hear their every thought about the news. Now some of these are artists who haven't done anything in years and feel they need to stay relevant. And there are others who... well, I suppose Mark Hamill is an old man who hasn't done much recently, but on his social media he barely even mentions Star Wars, it's just constant all-caps rants about Trump that make me worry about his mental health.

It's harder to understand those who still have careers thinking that tacking hard to a political cause is the way to win an audience.

Everyone loves Dolly Parton. Have you ever heard Dolly make a political statement that goes beyond general humanitarianism? Does anyone know which way she votes? There's a lesson there.
