Pop star Jade Thirlwall led a crowd in a chant against author JK Rowling during her set at a London music festival celebrating LGBTQ+ culture.

The former Little Mix member, now performing solo under the name JADE, encouraged thousands of fans at Mighty Hoopla on Saturday to shout “F* J.K. Rowling” from the main stage.

The chant began when Thirlwall shouted “transphobes,” prompting the crowd to respond with “F you.” She then followed with “J.K. Rowling,” and the crowd again replied, “F you.”

Footage of the moment was posted on social media with the caption: “Jade, the legend you are!!!”

It's almost comical how one-sided the hate and bigotry is.

Have TERFs ever led a "fuck you" crowd chant about anyone?

Closest I can think of is a slightly over-excited audience booing someone's name (as if it was a pantomime) when mentioned as part of a serious factual discussion.

(This discrepancy between the two sides was one of the first things I noticed when I spotted this topic about 8 years ago, and helped me rapidly grasp that the other side didn't actually have any sensible arguments).

Bread and circuses.

It is depressing how mindless and how easily led so many people are. And yes, 'classy' is never a word you can apply to anyone or anything in this particular political movement.

But…be kind, surely?

FrankyGoesToBollywood · 02/06/2025 21:44

She’s made these comments: “It’s really important for me that whoever I find relationship-wise loves drag culture,” the star tells Ru in the interview.
“When I first started talking to my boyfriend I discovered he did a movie 2018’s Tucked] where he played a drag queen and I was like, right, that’s it. He’s perfect. Sign me up!”

Ive never heard of any woman wanting to date a man who is into drag culture before.

Very weird… I guess being bisexual it might make sense as it’s somewhat gender fluid?! Oh I don’t know. It all goes over my head 🤷‍♀️

Iamnotalemming · 02/06/2025 22:14

God how depressing. How fucking tiresome. How about, I don't know, fuck Putin, someone causing actual harm. Rather than someone who, at worst, has a different point of view to you.

I’ve known a few straight women who have been desperate to be seen as the best friend/ally of every drag queen in town. Desperate to be so achingly cool that their friendship group (and ergo dating pool) consists of only those who support Trans Rights above all else. That don’t want to know anyone who isn’t obviously LGBTQI.

But funnily enough, have very few lesbian friends.

Has JKR ever said anything against being bisexaul or cross dressing inidivudals (old fashioned gender benders)?

This is the or another of the disturbing consequences of the misinformation campaign of Stonewall. All these people caught up in a false flag income generator.

If only society could sue Stonewall for creating antagonism and worse. Not quite a bad as the woman who posted misinformation on social media and ended up in prison, but taken as a whole over the years the damage they have done is enourmous.

And sadly, if they only had followed the "gender bender" purpose of breaking down gender stereotypes (ie the straight jacket of rigid society rules) 99.9% of the people running round saying they are being offended would just be getting on with their lifes wearing clothes and having interests of what used to be said to be the "natural" preserve of those of the opposite sex to which they were born.

I totally agree with you. I was just giving the information. World has gone crazy. I love JKR

JazzyBBBG · 02/06/2025 22:33

Well Jesse has been in the news a lot with the babies... had to come up with something didn't she. Pathetic.

ThePoshUns · 02/06/2025 22:34

I’m sure JKR couldn’t give a flying fuck what this z lister has to say.

MarieDeGournay · 03/06/2025 00:11

I didn't recognise the name, but she's ex-Little Mix, is she?
I never liked their stage outfits, which always looked like one step up from underwear - like always, no variety at all, always the same look.

But what really put the tin lid on Little Mix for me was when they performed at the One Love concert after the Manchester Arena bombing - and they didn't have the decency to put some proper clothes on even for that special event😠

We need a "shocked" re-act emoji.

But unfortunately, particularly for women in the music industry they only get accepted for dressing as though auditioning for a porn movie.

I find that so depressing and one of the reasons I dont bother with music any more.

Even Adele got turned into some sort of distortion of her original self.

Riling up a crowd to shout ‘fuck you!’ to another women is despicable misogyny. Shame on her.

Pop stars, like footballers, don’t automatically make great social commentators - because that involves doing the actual work of research and understanding.

While this is patently true, nobody ever says that novelists or playwrights shouldn't write social commentary, indeed we value that. There is always art, literature and music that reflects what is happening in the world, but we tend to only appreciate it a few decades later when it's less controversial.

In 1968 even the Beatles and Rolling Stones were singing about "revolution" and being a "street fighting man", because there were student protests going on all across Europe about the Vietnam war.

Of course, this Jade character certainly isn't in the same league as Marvin Gaye, Bob Dylan or the Clash.

That’s because novelists and playwrights do the work, in the main. Even the spiteful ones know exactly what they’re doing.

Weird way to get people to buy records

SunnieShine · 03/06/2025 08:05

She's just another woman in a relationship with a man. It's not unusual. Saying she is bisexual is just trying to make herself more intetesting.

She's never even said anything against trans-identifying people, beyond that everyone should stick to facilities etc for their own sex.

Quite. All she ever said was that women need rights too.

And the flying monkeys went beserk.

ThanksForTheSong · 03/06/2025 08:53

Amongst the things she asked people to say fuck you to were misogyny, homophobes and JK Rowling. It just proves that she doesn’t understand the issues at all, like so many others, hating JK without listening to what she actually says and not thinking through how misogynistic and homophobic that trans ideology is.

I don’t know if it’s that Jade and others that do this are just really thick, or that they just jump on anything that they think will make them popular in the moment. Anyone that actually thinks through the trans ideology would realise it’s rooted in misogyny and homophobia, like JK speaks up on, so to say fuck you to misogyny, homophobes and JK is very contradictory.

I had to laugh at someone on SM saying that JK has lost everything including her career due to being transphobic, while Jades career is doing so much better. 😂

Some women like (as in sexually) men who enjoy performing femininity. Human sexuality is complex. But getting turned on by a feminine man isn’t really a good reason to lead a hate chant against a woman you politically disagree with.
