Flags removed ahead of Pride event = hate crime?

Not sure how to feel about this. I don't agree with someone taking the flags down but is it really a hate crime?

Police probe hate crime over removal of pride flags on Arran

Flags were taken down from Brodick's Main Street overnight ahead of the Arran Pride event.

They don't, though, do they?

Given all the unsolved violent crimes, flags shouldn't just be low down on the list of priorities, they shouldn't make it onto the list at all.

Exactly,

Well that doesn’t make sense being a one way street, because your homophobia seems to exempt you from transphobia, and one of the perceived actions of transphobia is to be not homophobic.

You’re saying refusing to be homophobic is transphobic, but if you’re homophobic that makes you transphobic too? So that makes you transphobic, doesn’t it?

I think we are going to need those definitions of lesbian, gay, and homophobia to make sense of this puzzle.

KIlliePieMyOhMy · 31/05/2025 22:27

This is a deeply depressing thread.
Homophobia is alive and well here.

I think the general Mumsnet reader has grasped this puzzle already, and sees these posts for exactly what they are.

Yes they have. They see your homophobia plain as day. In your world men can be lesbians. Men can be in lesbian WhatsApp groups. Refusing to agree that men can be lesbians is transphobia to you.

Absolutely the general Mumsnet reader grasps this puzzle. I just think it’s fun to repeatedly remind you of the homophobic hypocritical ideology you support.

Yes, it seems quite clear that your beliefs are homophobic.

BangersAndGnash · 31/05/2025 18:18

Really obnoxious behaviour.
Including the fly tipping flags on the beach.

Lesbian and Gay people deserve better than to have their march sabotaged.

Suffragette flags, Adult Human Female banners, Palestine Flags, Star of David, and the Tufty Club. No one has the right to ban anyone else’s flag.

Tbh I would happily ban every flag. Bloody tribalism.

trans women (male people) in a female only space

It is impossible for men, however they identify, to be in a female only space. As soon as they enter a female only space it becomes a mixed sex space. Consequently, no trans identified man has ever experienced a female only environment and never will.

😂Yes that's right, on the thread where I am the one pushing back against the FWR minimisation and defence of the homophobic hate crime committed in Arran today - I am the homophobic one 😂 Catch yourself on 🤣

You think lesbians can have cocks, right? That's homophobic.

Christopher Guest These Go To Eleven GIF by Maudit

Exactly. Someone who thinks lesbians can have cocks has the gall to lecture people about homophobia.

One as yet undetermined incident of a flag going missing on a tiny Scottish island, vs a deeply held belief that lesbians include men with years of arguing for such and accusing those who disagree as being “transphobic”.

On a scale of 1-10 of homophobia, @suggestionsplease1 goes up to 11

In the grand scheme of everything going wrong in this country… is THIS really a ‘crime’ worth investigating?!

Come on.

Why are you putting words in my mouth?

I am not interested in policing anyone's identities.

As I have already said, many times before, the countries which score highest for women's equality and wellbeing are not policing identities either.

They are demonstrating, year after year, that they stay at the top of the tables for women, long after introducing policies of gender self ID.

You can bet your bottom dollar that they are not myopically obsessed like you, but are getting on with the real business of improving women's lives.

There's a thing called the law, if someone breaks the law it is the job of the police to investigate. While I appreciate crime in Brodick may not be that high, removing flags on the Main Street is a crime.

Was anyone else doing a countdown until that shite, bloody Index was mentioned by Suggestions yet again?

myopically obsessed?

You've got a cheek saying that to someone else!

Early hours of the morning on an island of barely 4000 people sounds like some people who were pissed rather than an organised ‘hate group’. Although who knows what the ‘wee frees’ might get up to.

There are hardly any Wee Frees on Arran, which is in the Firth of Clyde, SW Scotland, not the Hebrides.

NotBadConsidering · 31/05/2025 23:04

Add “Malta is an amazing country for women” to the Bingo card.

The UK Supreme Court just clarified women’s and lesbians’ rights. Only people who are homophobic don’t agree with the court’s clarification to protect the rights of lesbians.

So you condemn all those organisations failing to uphold the law on single sex spaces, and the definition of lesbian, as laid out by the Supreme Court? That would include Pride.

Have we established what crime has been committed when someone removes a flag that has been left by its owner?

Honestly, at this point, you'd be better just changing your username to a hyperlink to that Index as it's an inevitability that at some point on a thread, you will link it yet again, having ignored the many, many discrepancies to do with it which have been pointed out to you countless times.

I mean, it's sort of a shame that there's not an image for usernames because you could have a lovely colourful graph there too (and as a handy 'oh God, here it comes' for other posters).

What crime has been committed when someone takes your purse that you have left eg on a cafe table, and then takes it to and leaves it on a beach, unbeknownst to you?

I know Arran extremely well. The police are not as overstretched there as in other parts of Scotland, to put it mildly. The local paper used to report every single police and fire engine call out. Grin

There will have been bored teenagers and drunks wandering around in the small hours. Vandalism rather than hate crime, I would think. Lots of the people taking part come over for the day.

What is factually incorrect about it out of interest?

I keep hearing here ..FWR "deals in facts"

The information is factually accurate.
