Guess we'll finally find out whether Imane Khelif is female or not. I suspect he will avoid the testing "out of principle" 🤭

I've been tweeting about this, but my twitter/x has just gone down right now, and it won't let me like or show any twitter threads. Suspecting I may have (yet another) a ban, but tried on another account and it's down there too. Unless they've IP banned me. Can someone go over to twitter and see if it's working for them?

Fuck off into oblivion you cheat.

DuesToTheDirt · 30/05/2025 21:27

@RNApolymerase, yes indeed. They know all right.

The headlines are a bit, odd. Like there's something missing.....
https://news.sky.com/story/imane-khelif-boxer-must-undergo-sex-test-to-compete-in-female-category-world-boxing-says-13377092

If Ik was female taking a test would be no problem, would it? But the headlines say "won't be able to compete" so the writers of these articles must know as well as we do that he wouldn't pass the test.

Yes, if they were certain that IK is female they would take the test without any complaints.
I'm also quite amused how difficult some commentators think a test like this is. I mean, what do they think molecular biologists do all day?

murasaki · 30/05/2025 21:28

They always knew. They just pretended not to.

Yes, AI says X is experiencing outages

limecola · 30/05/2025 21:37

Yeah his supporters won't care and have you seen what the TRA's are saying currently? Apparently the concept of "biological sex" is a slur now and only used to spread hate against trans people. There is a lot of discussion about moving away from the fascist terminology of "biological sex/male/female" and they want a zero tolerance approach to the use of these terms.

As usual the actual concerns and needs of real biological women are completely brushed aside, and in their minds women love these interlopers and its only mean right wing, fascist, Christian, antiabortionists pretending to be feminists and women who object to fellas in female only spaces for some kind of nefarious plot of oppress all of womankind.

Essentially they live in a fantasy world and dismiss anyone no matter how sincere who has objections to them. Male entitlement and delusion to the max.

Xiaoxiong · 30/05/2025 21:43

IK is barred in the sense that ALL competitors are barred until they take a sex test.

It seems that the writers of those headlines know something about why IK won't be able to pass that test, and will therefore be barred completely...

ArabellaScott · 30/05/2025 20:49

Surely at a certain point, someone will look at one of these men and the penny will drop?!

I would hope so. But i have been saying this for a few years with little expectation of it happening. I suspect they will all just quietly disappear after the relevant sporting body forces the change. Maybe in decades to come media will acknowledge their true sex. Now, I doubt it.

Hoydenish · 30/05/2025 22:02

I was not expecting this. Crikey.

yy, no test will be taken by IK, they will not bow to such bullying etc, add something about not conforming to western standards for womanly appearance and possibly squeeze out a fat tear at the cruelty and unkindness, bla bla bla.

nauticant · 30/05/2025 22:09

This story has made it onto the Radio 4 main evening news at 10pm. The newsreader referred to Khelif as "she" but the more people who hear the story the better.

murasaki · 30/05/2025 22:12

It's not picking on Khelif, as everyone has to take it. If, say, Caroline Dubois, is happy to, and Khelif isn't, that only says one thing. Loudly.

TheSandgroper · 30/05/2025 22:20

This was very interesting last year https://shows.acast.com/realscienceofsport/episodes/paris-special-episode-males-are-about-to-fight-in-womens-box.

It’s always good value.

Plasticwaste · 30/05/2025 22:24

On ITV just now. Lots of hushed tones and "she". Apparently a "painful and divisive" discussion, according to the newsreader.

Short clip of Maya spitting facts 😀

ArabellaScott · 30/05/2025 22:26

Painful? For the women he punched in the face?

nauticant · 30/05/2025 22:26

I don't expect Khelif to subject himself to testing, and then expect that much of the media, and particularly the BBC, will then view the consequences of the ban as a non-story that they don't need to report.

The BBC and others will likely go down the starve-the-oxygen-of-publicity approach to disappear this story. You only need to follow the Twitter antics of Steve Bunce, a boxing correspondent with a significant media footprint who is used by the BBC, both then and now, to see how they really don't want to engage with this story in a professionally journalistic manner.

Lemonz · 30/05/2025 20:20

There will be no vindication (though it would be richly deserved). I agree he's unlikely to take the test, but if he did and was disqualified for being male (something which has already happened to him ffs) his supporters won't care.

I've seen them actually saying that biology in the case is irrelevant. All they care about is that he may at one point have believed himself to be female and has 'lived as a woman', whatever the fuck that means. Therefore it would be very mean to protect the female competitors from being punched by a man Sad

This is the interesting thing. From all the images and footage we’ve seen of him over a number of years - it appears that at no point did he think he was ‘living as a woman’.

In his earliest interviews he appeared entirely standard male. It is only since the Olympics furore he he appears to have acquired any ‘female’ accoutrements.

The most striking footage was of him walking into a polling station. All the women had their hair covered - he just marched/swaggered in, no hair covering, man’s clothes etc. Not even an attempt at not being a man.

Lovelyview · 30/05/2025 22:27

NecessaryScene · 30/05/2025 18:16

Well, that's us fucked.

Our "Khelif is really a man" conspiracy theory is finally going to be disproven.

Yes, finally we'll be shown up for our evil stereotyping of women who simply do not conform to our gender norms. I have prepared my fulsome apology for when Khelif finally proves his (sorry her) femaleness. I await future developments with interest.

BiologicalRobot · 30/05/2025 22:28

Yes!!!!

I predict a traumatic training incident which means he has to retire from boxing. This will give him enough martyrdom for him to earn money and fame from cutting ribbons in his own country. Only way he and Algeria can save face imo, and that is the most important thing to cheating bodies/governments.

Good choice of video clips though, I thought.

nauticant · 30/05/2025 22:31

There might be a Pronouns are Rohypnol moment for the public when, with suggestions that Khelif is simply male with a lot of pretendyness around that, they look a a male realising they're allowed to see him as a male and they go "oh, he's a male". A sort of granting of permission for the public to believe the evidence of their own eyes.

Plasticwaste · 30/05/2025 22:32

ArabellaScott · 30/05/2025 22:26

Painful? For the women he punched in the face?

Quite.

Funnily enough, their end story was about the explosive rise in parakeets in Britain. A 2,000% rise within a decade! Sounds quite familiar, in a way...

On a totally unrelated note, I wonder if ITV ever covered ROGD among teenage girls?

SabrinaThwaite · 30/05/2025 22:50

Oliver Brown in the Telegraph:

I suspect that Khelif will imminently have some kind of ‘career ending event’, resulting in a retirement before testing can be undertaken.

Because otherwise that Olympic medal is going to disappear.

RedToothBrush · 30/05/2025 22:52

Sudden injury, avoids this tournament. Says they will compete at next one after recovery. Never gets fit again as injury turns out to be more serious than expected. And the timing is alllll just an amazing coincidence.
