I knew you'd all be keen to hear them.

"It is the responsibility of a feminist to be progressive, to learn from previous waves but to always be pushing towards a new one. “Feminism must be intersectional. Feminism must not be used to bully and berate both cis women and trans people.”

Blessed be the fruit Commander Joly. What a fine day in Gilead.

If only Joly could manage not to bully and berate.

The total berk.

It is the responsibility of a feminist to be progressive, to learn from previous waves but to always be pushing towards a new one....Feminism must be intersectional. Feminism must not be used to bully and berate both cis women and trans people.
Is that the sound of a man telling women how to feminist better?

Can we reclaim "intersectional feminism", please, and use the term for its real purpose? Example: I'm probably more likely to be struck by lightning than strip-searched by the British Transport Police. So that problem seems to be nothing to do with me personally. It's a problem affecting e.g. hapless teenagers involved in county lines. Right now I know barely any teenage dimwits but intersectional feminism is a tough discipline: it means a strip-search policy IS my problem. All women have a duty to ensure not one girl is ever strip-searched by a man. (And we all know who gets strip-searched: see below if you're uncertain about that.) This is intersectional feminism: it's about remembering that other women are dealing with experiences I will never face and barely comprehend. Don't let hijackers use the term as a synonym for uncritical trans activism. It's about broadening the way we look at WOMEN'S challenges and obstacles (which is obvs not at all the same thing as broadening the category of "women"!). https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/article/2024/jun/10/police-more-than-six-times-more-likely-to-strip-search-black-children

Police more than six times more likely to strip-search black children

Exclusive: New study also shows forces in England and Wales 10 times more likely to search black people

More:

'91% of people prosecuted for sexual offenses are cis men aged 18+. The biggest threat to cis women sadly comes from cis men. These stats from Rape Crisis'

I've never seen stats disaggregated for 'cis' and 'trans' males. Anyone else?

Of course this is an irrelevant statistic as it takes no account of the vastly different number of cis men vs trans women in the population and does not state as a proportion or otherwise the frequency of sexual offences committed by transwomen.

No. The figures this was taken from are from the ONS. The ONS uses 'sex', and there is no gathering of 'gender identity' of perpetrators.

It's an odd state to use. Did Nash assume 91% of sex crime was committed by 'cis' men and the rest committed by transwomen? The wording of her song seems to imply that given the context.

But it's nonsense, of course, because nobody records that stat.

We do know that more than half of the males identifying as women in prison are sex offenders.

But we don't know what proportion of prosecuted sex offenders are trans.

Not least because some police forces record 'gender identity', so Isla Bryson may have been recorded as 'female' before he was sent to a woman's prison.

OP posts:
ArabellaScott · 29/05/2025 06:37

I guess what Nash was trying to suggest was that most sex crime is committed by 'cis' men.

Which is true. What she's done is managed to imply that a small number of men who identify as 'trans' are sex offenders.

Which is also true.

So I guess the thrust of her argument is that there aren't many 'trans' sex offenders so we should focus on 'cis' sex offenders and ignore the 'trans' sex offenders.

She's creating a category of sex offender that she suggests we should not consider and should allow into womens spaces.

On a completely separate note, I’d never heard of this woman but her songs are bloody awful! Plinky plonk piano and that annoying way of singing/talking whilst staring straight at the camera swishing her hair. Sorry, a bit irrelevant I know!

teawamutu · 29/05/2025 07:55

I bought her first album, on the strength of quite liking one song. That's literally all I can remember about it; didn't even dislike it, I nothinged it.

She was pretty good in Glow, albeit in a part with very little to do, and she joined Only Fans because she was having trouble paying invoices. Her tours, by her own admission, lose money.

She's clearly very entrepreneurial and committed to being famous - I'm sure taking a swipe at JKR is nothing to do with the level of publicity she's suddenly getting.

DeanElderberry · 29/05/2025 08:15

I was wondering what sort of people in England keep baseball bats ready to hand in their houses - so that for instance, heading out the door on a winter day too fast to grab a coat, the bat is there.

In Ireland I'd assume a member of a paramilitary group and/or a drug gang enforcer. J M is neither of those, so why?

When I lived alone and had dodgy neighbours I kept a baseball bat by my door. And a golf club. I can only imagine how useless they'd have been had one of the neighbours actually broken in, but anyway.

fairy nuff

The front and back doors of my house (neighbours mostly four-legged, unlikely to try to enter) have strong ironwork designed to hold bars to prevent entry - I often wonder which iteration of 'troubles' saw them put in place.

I have had a policeman inform me that keeping any implement "for self defence" is a risky thing to admit if it ever came to it. The adage about being judged by 12 rather than carried by 6 did enter the conversation. But the point remains. and is a bear trap for the more forthright person.

Foundations. That was probably the song. Same here.

37 she is. That's the bit that gets me. You'd think she'd grow up

Yes, it's incredibly stupid. It's like saying "91% of people prosecuted for sexual offences are men with brown eyes, therefore men with blue eyes are not a threat."

Some people have such a hazy grasp of statistics I do wonder what they learnt in school, if anything.

Well, the track may have managed to point out in its very clumsy way that these trans sex offenders do exist, so I suppose it might be helpful in that respect.

But I guess stats have been sprinkled over this buffet of bullshit in a purely decorative manner, to give the appearance of authority and gravitas.

He’s going after Suzanne now, reproducing DM’s between them but with no date on them, for any sort of reference. It looks like they go back as far as the Corbyn days which is unbelievably creepy that he would have kept messages from that long ago. This man is completely obsessed with controlling women and trying to humiliate them. I’m not a fan of hyperbole but he’s coming across as deranged.

are his messages in blue? And hers in black?

To me that looks like a man hassling a woman who politely asks him to leave her alone.

Do married middle-aged blokes often put kisses on DMs to their friends? There's just something 'off' about his tone on these messages, she doesn't want to come onto your podcast mate, leave her alone.
Also close some of your browser windows Jolyon, having 21 tabs open as you trawl through your DM sliding history from 2018 is desperate stuff.

The bully strikes again. The only tactic left to attempt to shut women up.

I think the point he's trying to make is that she then tweeted that they hadn't had any discussion.

But knowing his penchant for distorting the truth, I'd want the context from Suzanne herself.
