Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Am I naive in thinking that in a couple of years, if not sooner, this will all be behind us? A few court cases, people clear about the law, women's rights protected again??

And yes the noisy TRA far fewer in number and sidelined as the sad fringe that are left as others move on.....

Or do others think it will pan out differently??

Does anyone remember the kids TV show called Johnny Briggs and the girl on it who always says 'my mum, whose a nurse, says...'

I'm getting flash backs to that with 'my female friend, who is also a long term user on MN, says...'

Crikey. Well far be it from me etc

and yet the women of Mumsnet are the ones you’re terrified of running into 🤨

It's possible to find more than one group of people frightening.

In an afternoon full of peculiar things posted on the internet, I think a man noting that he’s known since childhood that he was highly unlikely to become a biological mother jostles to be the most ridiculous

DurinsBane · 27/05/2025 17:51

The government. This is the statistics for all age ranges of trans people, if you take just the younger range it is actually almost double biological females to biological men.

The late 90's were a time where a lot of technologies felt like they were just round the corner...

Nameychangington · 27/05/2025 17:53

Seethlaw · 27/05/2025 17:44

You've never been "highly unlikely" to ever become a biological mother. It was always impossible, from the moment you were conceived. See the difference?

This isn't tough love or whatever. I really don't care about that. I only care about speaking facts when discussing the rights of various groups.

Butters sometimes claims to be 'intersex' though so maybe has convinced himself he could totes have had a baby due to how special and different he is.

Seethlaw · 27/05/2025 17:53

ButterflyHatched · 27/05/2025 17:45

I understand that feeling well and it took me a good year or so to get past it. I think I got very lucky with finding a great friendship group at a fortunate time and having a hugely supportive family.

It's not lying to be yourself and be perceived correctly as yourself - a tension that most non-trans people never even realise exists.

I hope it works out for you in the future!

Thing is: I don't want a "supportive" group encouraging me to deny reality. I spent enough years in a religious cult indoctrinating me already.

"It's not lying to be yourself and be perceived correctly as yourself"

Ah, but what is myself? I'm biologically female. I lived years as a woman. And now I present as a man. Myself is all of those aspects at once.

Women noting that you’re a bloke and should use the provision set aside for men is ‘frightening’? You do seem a bit fragile if I may say so?

and you appear to put such women in a similar bracket to those who tell you to get in an oven several times a day.

I’m also going to suggest that something is off with your sense of proportion

I'm not scared of how tall you are or how big your feet are, RedToothBrush.

I'm scared of the raging hostility you exude toward me in every single post. It's genuinely terrifying.

No you are afraid of me telling the truth.

That's not being mean or excluding.

That's just telling the truth and speaking up about my legal rights to spaces free from males.

Fucking 'terrifying' eh?

Cool, well, I hope you find a way to reconcile with yourself. I don't think you will find it amongst people who are actively striving to ban your healthcare and exclude you from public services, but that's your call. Good luck 👍

It's possible to find more than one group of people frightening.

We're women. You don't have to tell us.

Ok, you've clarified that the "being told to get in an oven" stuff was about messages you've received on social media. Obviously that's very very wrong, totally unacceptable and I hope you reported them and the people who sent them were banned. Such posts will certainly be deleted if they're made on here. I'll report them if I see them.

The questions remain:

If women don't need a space away from men to be safe, why do you?

If you are deathly afraid of meeting women who don't want men in their spaces, why do you use those spaces?

Are additional unisex spaces open to everyone an acceptable solution? If not, why not?

You wish to force society to reorganise around affirming you as a woman although you aren't one, and never to be challenged on this by anyone, in any way. How do you square this with the people who dissent being fascists?

Size 8 is a women's clothes size. Honestly Butters you do find new ways to embarrass yourself.

You seem to have missed the point that I have "reconciled with myself' - by accepting the situation as it is. You're the one who seems to still be deluded as to your biological reality.

And again with the drama. Nobody here is "actively striving to ban your healthcare and exclude you from public services". I told you: speak facts to me.

Why the constant hyperbole?? I don’t want to ban anyone’s healthcare. In fact, I presume trans people have additional issues that need monitoring due to the meds they’re taking. I think they should get that care - of course! Nor am I trying to exclude people from public services for which they qualify. Just like with my Reception class example, excluding pensioners from a class of 4 and 5yr olds isn’t pensionerphobia or hatred - it’s because they don’t qualify.

It’s the same with single sex spaces.

murasaki · 27/05/2025 18:05

I don't think Seethlaw needs Butters' ridiculous patronising. As it's quite clear who is a happier person, and it ain't Butters.
