It’s been a while since I last saw everyone!

Welcome to everyone, regulars, lurkers, newly ventured in.

A place for women to discuss whatever takes their fancy, where the bar staff are attentive gerbils, Rosy the Red Panda is available for cuddles and all sweet things have no calories and all alcohol leaves the drinker slightly merry and hangover-free.

Previous thread is here:

The Bluestocking Women's Pub, where brains can exist in a single state | Mumsnet

Welcome all. The booze here is minimally intoxicating, the food is calorie free and the staff are warm and cuddly. And if the thread title sounds nons...

Here you go @Turbochook. Georgia was being very literal in interpreting your request. Oh, and don't mention her third hand, she gets very sensitive about it.

A floral garnish is just the thing, but I'm a little concerned about the colour. I had something more sophisticated and expensive-looking in mind... Sauternes, maybe? Never tried it, but seems like it might be a decent summery alternative to tawny port.

DeanElderberry · 28/05/2025 21:18

It looks as though they've added a slug of home-made sloe gin, which is hella sophisticated and expensive but might not be the best flavour mixed with the wine.

My version of over-long and pointless was spending the day uprooting and removing ground elder. And nettles. And brambles. But mostly ground elder. I know it will all come back but I couldn't help myself, and have cleared at least one and maybe two metres square. I'm beginning to be very aware of muscles and joints and things and am looking for the arnica and the sudocrem.

nighty night

Hello @Turbochook Glad the gerbils are sorting your.drink. Would you like.a hug with Rosy, our resident red panda? She loves hugs and is a very peaceful soothing animal (unlike those pesky pygmy piggies).

( I can't do AI, or I'd sort a picture!)

AsWithGlad · 28/05/2025 21:35

lcakethereforeIam · 28/05/2025 17:59

I'll have a frivolous g&t. It'll probably count toward my 5 a day.

The pygmy hogs have 'fessed up to blocking the loos. They've been taking turns to climb in and flush them. As a safety measureHmm they jammed a fresh bog roll in first. When that loo overflowed they continued their game in the next one.

They seem very contrite.

Oh, dear. I know they are all very keen to be in The Bluestocking, but I wonder if some of the pygmy hogs are fibbing about their age and ought to be outside playing in the sunshine until they get a bit older.

There is always sunshine in the afternoon outside The Bluestocking, isn’t there?

Turbochook · 28/05/2025 21:48

@FuzzyPuffling I'll pass on the panda, although it's a kind offer. My real self is off to bed, but it's pleasant to think of my virtual alter ego sipping wine in the Bluestocking for a bit longer.

MarieDeGournay · 28/05/2025 21:50

Welcome to the Bluestocking Turbochook, it looks like you did your homework before coming in, so know what to expect: whatever you want [well 99%..], served by the cutest, keenest little rodents imaginableSmile

Errol, enjoy that beer, you've had a tough afternoon - I hope your DH's eye problems are sorted soon.

Hi there. Please may I have a serious G&T and a conversation with a moose, a magpie, a puffin, an hedgehog, a beetle, a slice of cake, a lioness and any other unusual customers in here? I have just been catching up on another thread: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/5342041-the-words-that-have-been-pulled-over-your-eyes?utm_campaign=thread&utm_medium=app_share
and I need something to bring me back to reality.

I was following that thread yesterday but it became so wearisome I had to stop.

I have a couple of women friends who have views about "transphobic" people. It really bothers me. "No debate" is alive and well as far as they are concerned, and it's personal, because according to them, being sex realist IS "transphobic". I love my friends but they are quite deluded. I suppose it's like knowing a friend has a particularly extreme political view you utterly disagree with. There's no point in going there.

Bring on the lovers, liars and clowns, the hedgehog, the beetle, the Cake, the dragon, the pirate, the gerbils and quokkas and capybara, the dachshund, the snug and the laughter.

Magpiecomplex · 28/05/2025 22:00

Awwww... We've had a male tawny owl forlornly tu-whooing here, on and off, for a year. I've just heard a tu-whit! He's found a girlfriend!

Although she does sound quite agitated, I hope he's not being too eager.

Bannedontherun · 28/05/2025 22:50

@JanesLittleGirl It’s meeeeeee hedgehog i know a boy hedgehog from a girl hedgehog.

and my hoglettes have been guided very well by me (obvs)

one of last years winter hoglettes was gender non conforming, and as it turns out is a gay hedgehog

We have managed to avoid any of them trans issues mainly because said hoglette was never allowed on line.

He goes to a gay hedgehog club, which is secret and all is good.

Thanks wims.

For the avoidance of doubt I have three measures of spirits:

A serious. Now you're talking.

Do we have tech-gerbils on duty?
I haven't been able to get to the "Am I naive..." thread since the middle of the afternoon, I get "Bad Gateway" on all my devices when I try to open it. I see it's now full but I'd quite like to have a quick skim-read. All other threads are fine, just this one. Any ideas what the problem could be?
Also, could I have a fancy G&T with all available garnishes please?

This is the thread.

This was thanks to Georgiana, who is a whizz at the Advanced Search, but it took some time because she had to change into a stereotypical computer nerd costume, complete with glasses.

As her name suggests she’s a HUGE fan of the Duchess of Devonshire and this is what she normally wears in the server room. Because no one ever goes there and she’s bringing her authentic self to work.

But she wants to be taken seriously so dresses to the stereotype when in public.

Thanks @MyrtleLion that's the thread. I can't open it, not on my phone (with wifi on or via 4G), not on either one of my laptops. I've deleted cookies, I restarted the devices, nothing helps, all I get is 502 Bad Gateway. I have posted on it, I get notifications that people reacted to my posts, but I haven't been able to get to it since yesterday afternoon. It's the only thread this is happening to.

DeanElderberry · 29/05/2025 07:19

Mumsnet went very odd for me yesterday evening, lots of threads not opening, blank pages with an invitation to 'swipe' for trending threads - I use my laptop, I ignore threads unless they look interesting. Eventually I abandoned it and read instead.

Mumsnet website is often very glitchy. I don't know if it relates to anything my end, but it is the only site that is so touchy, both on phone and on laptop. Often, things don't load, adverts don't show, images won't expand, can't do comments or reactions, can't stay in the same place in the thread. And yesterday I got added to that endless scrolling thread nightmare as well, luckily not for very long.

As for the bad gateway, that thread (now full) has "butterfly hatched" all over it. So is indeed a bad gateway.

Just thought - if you do an advanced search for butterfly hatched username, you might be able to open the thread that way by going to the comment on the thread.

EdithStourton · 29/05/2025 07:41

I agree with Jane that that thread became completely unhinged. The refusal of <cough cough> one particular poster to understand that he isn't the only pebble on the proverbial beach is absolutely incredible.

I couldn't face the toilets thread after that. I resorted to port, though I can confirm for turbochook that Sauternes is utterly delicious.

Good to see that the galleon is still around. Hoping Swashy is still popping in and that she is bearing up okay. Love and thoughts to you, Swash, if you see this.

inkymoose · 29/05/2025 07:58

Last night the Quokkas invented a song. They wanted to include everybody, so the song took all night to perform, and luckily Android was there to listen to it all the way through until this morning.

Hi. I popped in this morning when it was quiet. Sat in a chair and inhaled the familiar smells and felt the stillness.

The gerbils sat on my knee and were kind.

There is so much official admin for me to do; it is a full time job at the moment. Hopefully the requirements will become less intense over the next few weeks.

I can’t bring him home for a long time, due to the way in which he died and the necessary procedures. Feels like a suspension of what would usually come next and funeral arrangements will be significantly delayed.

Seeing Swashy’s ship in your picture-thoughts really does bring tears to my eyes. I feel remembered and cared for and I cannot tell you how much touches me.

Love, Swashy.

DeanElderberry · 29/05/2025 08:30

Darling Swashy. You're all in my prayers - I reckon even if they aren't part of your tradition they aren't going to do any harm.

FuzzyPuffling · 29/05/2025 08:57

In my prayers too dear Swashy.
