For some reasons the House of Commons Petitions Committee have not listed this on the official web site of forthcoming Westminister Hall debates.

But seem to think a short tweet is enough notice! https://x.com/HoCpetitions/status/1922663793403855330

Again haven't listed petition url but can be found on https://petition.parliament.uk

And should be available to watch via https://www.parliamentlive.tv/Guide

Just in case anyone wants to lobby their MP to attend.

Some Scottish bloke quoting 'everyone has the right to be themselves' as though it's some sort of profound truth instead of what it really is, an empty, inane platitude.

(except women)

Thanks for watching, those who can stomach it.

There doesn’t seem to be any balance at all in this “debate”.

lcakethereforeIam · 19/05/2025 18:18

I've an idea where the GC people, assuming there are any might be. I read a book review in the Critic earlier today.

https://thecritic.co.uk/how-not-to-argue/

It was rather long but worth a read. This is the pertinent bit

Here Shahvisi appears oblivious to the true goal of high-profile “cancellation” campaigns: not to silence J.K. Rowling, Steven Pinker or Richard Dawkins — who are indeed “too big to be cancelled” — but to serve as a warning to less powerful people that they could be next.

They're keeping their heads down. Or perhaps they recognise what an utter waste of their time this would be. No-one is going to have their mind changed by this, but Sian Berry and her ilk have signalled their virtue and, possibly, retained the votes of the unfortunates who've been captured by this nonsense.

GreenwichPips · 19/05/2025 18:19

The main unkindness that has been done to trans people is in letting them believe that they can ever change sex to the extent that they will be accepted by others as being the opposite sex. The arguments made by transwomen against having third spaces for toilets etc is that this will “out” them as not really being female, when this is already apparent regardless of whether or not they use the women’s toilet.

Shadow Minister for Women** has turned up.

Been interrupted. Scorned. Up until now everyone has been very polite.

Now they are saying she is crazy to think it is important to have biological sex recorded. Someone even saying why doesn anyone need to know.

She managed to keep going and raised the issue of correct collection of data.

What a shame that others who could have made points about sex based rights haven't turned up.

** Sorry cant find her name!

How can we find out which MPs attended this?

Is it Claire Coutinho, Con?

I hope it'll be recorded in Hansard and made public at some point?

IwantToRetire · 19/05/2025 18:33

According to google it is Mims Davies.

That sneering woman with purple scarf...if biological sex is immutable why does it matter what it says on your passport or birth certificate...like it's some kind of gotcha! Because, you idiot, successive governments have created a situation where Dr Upton will look a court in the eye and insist he is a biological female. If big Brenda tells the local rape crisis he should be in the female shelter it would be great to ask him to simply show his passport, driving licence or birth certificate to prove he's lying. Rather than jump through complicated hoops to keep the bastard out!

I think she did quite well given the over performed hostility but cant help wanting to have seen Kemi Badenoch give they all short shrift.

Really good speaker from SNP(?!!)

Pointing out the impact on the protected charateristic of sex.

And is using how this was debated in Scotland to say it isn't as easy as previous speakers have implied.

Finished by saying sex and gender are not the same thing!

That's Tracy Gilbert. Labour, not SNP. We need more like her!

IwantToRetire · 19/05/2025 18:37

Well almost as shocked as if she had been SNP!

But so glad for her words.

Sorry because only half listening.

Who is speaking now. (wearing red)

Is she speaking for the Government.

It sounds like she is.

Yes, talking about consultation period re Supreme Court.

Hadn't realised that whatever final guidelines post court ruling have to be agreed in Parliament??

lcakethereforeIam · 19/05/2025 18:42

I admit I kept skipping out. It's terribly one sided, tedious and repetitive.

IwantToRetire · 19/05/2025 18:42

Says Labour is committed to looking at gender recognition reform

I may stop listening.

I just think it is going to be 100% trans people are the most discriminated against in the world.

It is cruel to ask them to go through an invasive medical process. They should just be able to self identify.

Wonder how they propose this happens. You just send for a certificate. Print if off from the internet.

DIY certificate? One of those nice colouring in sheets?

IwantToRetire · 19/05/2025 18:50

Labour doesn't believe in self id!!

Needs to be a medical process.

Need to see through review following Cass Report.

Implement recomendations of Cass Review.

Will bring in conversion practices ban to protect trans people.

Government committed to single sex spaces but also committed to providing services to trans people.

UK has gone from No 1 on Rainbow map to 22.

Will improve hate crime laws

------
MP with purple scarf obviously has appointed herself as spokesperon for the trans community. Keeps interrupting.

OP posts:
lcakethereforeIam · 19/05/2025 18:53

I've took against her 😠

IwantToRetire · 19/05/2025 18:54

Chair winding up.

Too much made of conflict between women's rights and trans rights.

Trans people are a tiny % of the country.

Vote taken.

Everyone in favour of the petition. ie self id.

lcakethereforeIam · 19/05/2025 18:56

From what I saw of it only the speakers who could be labelled GC gave any consideration to the rights of women and girls.
