Banned from breastfeeding group for objecting to males breastfeeding

Hi everyone,

I gave birth a few months ago and had some breastfeeding difficulties, so joined a local breastfeeding support group in my city. It’s basically a place to go for support with feeding, plus meet other mums/have a cuppa and biscuit etc. They also have a FB group. It’s become a nice, friendly place to go once every couple of weeks.

Recently, a trans-woman (male) has joined the group asking for support because their wife has not long had a baby and the trans-woman is wishing to breastfeed too, apparently through use of hormones and domperidone (?) to stimulate supply (I did not realise this was possible at all)

I really really object to this person being present in a group of women who are seeking breastfeeding support, trying to come together in their breastfeeding experience and also revealing themselves intimately

I told the group leader my concerns and she basically told me to shove it - said that the group is a safe space for everyone and they support all who wish to breastfeed and that I shouldn’t come back because I am a bigot

I am horrified as are the other women, where do we all stand and what would you do?

NRFT.
Has anyone queried the safeguarding issues raised by this? Where is the child’s mother? Is she ok? Is she getting the support that she needs to feed her baby in whatever way she chooses?
Who is prioritising the needs of the child?

Is this practise of males breast feeding a common occurrence? I thought it was just a mad, headline grabbing one off to make a point.

I think we've all wasted enough time on Blueskies, who is either not in the UK and unable to grasp that we are and we are all quite clued up about our laws, or is in the UK and is unable to grasp that Stonewall law is not the real law and nobody else has to abide by it.

I think Mumsnet attracts various bots / AI generated posts and the lack of any coherent discussion points would suggest that perhaps there's not a human making these random comments?

Last one before bedtime - @Blueskies25 you don't seem to be aware that the trans lobby in the UK has removed the term "breast feeding" from every NHS policy in the UK on the basis that it was NOT inclusive. So that means it is a group advertised for women. Keep up!

Inform yourself before making stupid comments

The claim that the UK's National Health Service (NHS) has removed the term "breastfeeding" from all policies due to inclusivity concerns is not accurate. While certain NHS trusts, such as Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust (BSUH), have introduced gender-inclusive language in their perinatal services, these changes are specific to individual trusts and do not represent a nationwide policy.

Yes, there's a repetitive quality and the first few posts from last night are very different from the torrent of posts since.

Excluding a trans woman who was seeking advice on breast feeding from a breast feeding support group could be seen as discriminatory

Nothing to do with discrimination and everything to do with safeguarding a vulnerable baby. Any man trying to 'feed' a baby needs reporting to social services.

I don’t think there is anything stopping people from doing just that if they wish to do so

I didn't say there was but frankly a lot of people in positions of authority have been completely derelict in their duty to safeguard children in recent times which has allowed some men to push boundaries all too easily.

Hopefully we'll start seeing a mass recovery of backbone sometime soon.

Who the hell is prescribing this shit?

we don’t even prescribe domperidone to women frequently, due to side effects and risk!

Exactly makes me so mad. I had serious problems breastfeeding to the point my baby dehydrated. Could I get any medication to help? No.

FYI, I think it’s completely disrespect full to refer to trans women as men, they are trans women,
This kind of attitude is a big part of the problem and not helping anything.
We are women, they are trans women

If we want to be respected we need to respect others

You’re not quite getting it though, are you

Getting what, exactly?

And using the laugh reaction as derision is something MN wishes to be reported to them. I haven’t. But others might if you do it to them.

They are men and it does help because it stops the language obfuscation that has encouraged and allowed some horrendous treatment of women and children.

I don't care if they feel disrespected, collectively they have never shown women and children any respect.

Calling men men makes it clear why we don't want them in women's only spaces. Perhaps you would prefer trans identifying males? As at least that is clear. Too many people have been conned into thinking that trans women are biological women who identify as trans, when the opposite is the case.

Male people who have a philosophical belief that they are female are not any type of woman. No matter how sincerely they believe they are a type of woman as indicated by the using ‘trans’ as an adjective.

What changes within a male person from before they make a declaration that they are women to after? They are still male are they not?

And the word for adult male people is ‘men’. That is the precise and accurate word for that group of humans. Just because they believe that they are not men doesn’t mean that they are not. And others do not have to act in a way that supports that belief.

I'll go dig out my tinest violin for all the men who don't feel respected enough in their attempts to feed newborn infants drug induced nipple secretions.

People with attitudes like yours are just contributing to the overall problem, blatant ignorance, whilst showing a complete lack of respect or understanding but at the same time demanding respect

It’s a clear indication of a lack of intelligence / education

A third of Britons don’t know that transgender women were born male

It says a lot about the standard of education in Britain

How exactly is it contributing to the problem?

The world is finally starting to wake up to the madness that is men in women's prisons, men in women's sports, medical experimentation and chemical castration of children, women and girls being abused in spaces that were meant to be female, men involving babies in breastfeeding fetish role play...the list goes on and on and on...

That any of this was allowed to happen is the problem, not women correctly pointing out that men are men.

The genie is not going back in the bottle.

Why does a male person who has a particular belief about who they are that does not reflect material reality deserve greater respect regarding language choices than someone else’s language choices?
