Feminism: Sex and gender discussions
Iwantahug · 30/04/2025 18:58

Yes, James Norton signed it, seemingly 🙄

TicklishLemur · 30/04/2025 18:58

The one cast as Snape in the new series should be fired!

Puttinginthemiles · 30/04/2025 19:01

Actors always overestimate their own intelligence and importance...

Iwantahug · 30/04/2025 19:02

It's ridiculous really - women's rights are clarified, Gender reassignment already protected...

MagpiePi · 30/04/2025 19:02

Tbf, there is nothing wrong with being against trans people being subject to discrimination or bullying, but support doesn’t mean ignoring the law.
Let’s hope all those big names will be campaigning for 3rd spaces…but I’m not going to hold my breath for it.

Well exactly but there's a side order of putting women in their place.

Ars you saying it needs to be a white actor? 🤔

SydneyCarton · 30/04/2025 19:05

Accio Virtue!

The law has clarified very clearly that trans people are protected against bullying and harassment. What the dummy spitters can’t deal with is the fact that it also clarified that women have rights based on their biological sex, and that these aren’t erased by trans rights.

No, she’s saying he signed this petition.

RNApolymerase · 30/04/2025 19:06

Maybe, if cast in new series and worrying about possibly being accused of transphobia, the actors are signing to virtue signal that no, they couldn't possibly be transphobic they've signed a letter. This will not be good enough for the baying mob though, so might as well not have bothered.

No and how dare you make such an accusation based on nothing at all! It should simply not be an actor who signs a letter going against everything JK Rowling holds dear.

It would probably make James potter look like a racist when the bullying over how Snape looks happens don't you think?

Considering Snape's looks... And specifically big nose is mentioned a few times...

Yup.

Protect trans people from discrimination and bullying. Stop discriminating against and bullying women to do so.

It won’t be good enough for the baying mob, and they’ll also have the more sensibly-inclined telling them they should put their money where their luxury beliefs are and resign from the role. In short, they’ve pissed everyone off.

Shodan · 30/04/2025 19:13

It never ceases to surprise me that so many people are so desperate to proclaim their lack of intelligence, or their lack of concern about women's rights.

Still, I expect any actors who have had the bad luck to be forced to act in films based on books written by JK Rowling will be donating their fees to causes supporting trans/non-binary/intersex people...

lcakethereforeIam · 30/04/2025 19:15

I saw an article about Tom Felton who has always diplomatically stood by JKR. Apparently he's been asked to do a behind the scenes of the new series.

As for this lot? Signal away.

jhftc · 30/04/2025 19:16

"and Bridgerton’s Nicola Coughlan, who previously said she was “disgusted” by the ruling."

This one is really bothering me. What on earth is there to be disgusted about, they've simply confirmed that a woman is a woman? Confused

My mind is absolutely boggled by people with her attitude.

Screamingabdabz · 30/04/2025 19:16

What’s this pledge going to do?

A) nothing.
B) show them as thick, desperate and out of touch with reality.
C) make ordinary people feel less inclined to value the arts because it’s populated by wankers.
D) all of the above.

FriedGold32 · 30/04/2025 19:25

I see Robert De Niro is the latest celebrity with a "trans child", amazing coincidence. All of these people are caught in the Helen Joyce trap, they're all 2 degrees of separation at most from someone who claims to have a magic child and they don't want to upset them. They're all barmy.

DialSquare · 30/04/2025 19:45

How embarrassing for them.

Puttinginthemiles · 30/04/2025 19:01

One thousand times this.
Insufferable people.

murasaki · 30/04/2025 20:15

Well they do dress up and pretend for a living, so we shouldn't be surprised they support people who do that for free.

RainbowsAreNotTheOnlyFruit · 30/04/2025 20:20

Wasn’t Robert de Niro claiming that his child’s autism was caused by a vaccine back in the day? Is the autistic child also the trans child by any chance?

BackToLurk · 30/04/2025 20:31

Let them, and I hope JKR's response is either "so" or silence, which would probably annoy them more.
