The TRA’s have turned on him, quite rightly pointing out that he’s happy to work with JKR to profit financially and boost his career so he can’t feel that strongly.

He is learning as we speak that nothing is ever enough for them.

I love that for him.

These virtue signallers have absolutely no idea who they're dealing with.

Edited to add, that actually, not many people would view profiting from someone who you can't help slagging off massively in public, as anything other than hypocritical.

Let them, and I hope JKR's response is either "so" or silence, which would probably annoy them more.

Do you really think all 400 who signed the pledge have done this for the sole benefit of JKR? She may be an almost billionaire but the world doesn't revolve around her.

actress Charlotte Ritchie, who appeared as a student in Harry Potter and the Goblet Of Fire, and comedian Daisy Haggard, who has voiced the Ministry Of Magic lift.

Reckon I've had bigger moments on the telly, and I've only worked in the NHS Grin

Charlotte Ritchie was one of the lead characters in Ghosts, to be fair, and very popular on Taskmaster! A brief role as an uncredited extra in her teens isn't exactly the height of her career. Daisy Haggard I don't know as well, but I think she was the lead actress in an ITV drama not too long ago, plus she's so familiar I must have seen her in lots of smaller roles.

Obviously a lot of people signing their names are behind-the-scenes creatives who aren't particularly well-known, but there are a lot of recognisable names from the British television scene on there as well. I don't think it serves any argument to act like these actors are all irrelevant nobodies- people can be both well-known and wrong.

Grammarnut · 02/05/2025 10:05

I doubt any of them have read the ruling. Some of them probably need the publicity, too.

NotMyRealAccount · 02/05/2025 10:14

I do love that the TRAs have called this lot out for meaningless virtue signalling. I hope the insult stings.

ThatCyanCat · 02/05/2025 11:24

I love how Nicole whatsherface has been mouthing off about refusing to do any HP projects.

And you know what? If politics don't go my way, I absolutely refuse to play for Man U.

Motherknowsrest · 02/05/2025 12:56

I'm a little disappointed in Essiedu. He appeared in I May Destroy You, an entire (amazing) series about sexual assault and consent. One would think some of it had gone in.

Watson, honestly. Daft bugger.

'I'm a little disappointed in Essiedu. He appeared in I May Destroy You, an entire (amazing) series about sexual assault and consent. One would think some of it had gone in.'

Its a really stunning series, brilliantly written and performed. Even more disappointingly, Michaela Coel (writer/ creator) is in the 'be kind' brigade too. Makes you despair

Hot on the heels of Schrödinger’s transwoman and Schödinger’s ruling we have Schrödinger’s letter. Both a dig at JKR and simultaneously nothing to do with her.

aylis · 02/05/2025 13:44

What have trans activists like those signing a letter actually done for their cause on a practical basis? They're signed some letters, chanted and worn some slogans, and abused women. What have they achieved from that? Absolutely fuck all really. All the 'work' has been top down, imposed by people in positions of power and the wee minion activists have saw it all go up in a puff of smoke because there's nothing real underpinning it.

Is a transPledge something that takes the polish off?

It pretends to take the polish off but just smears it over the surface.

While also stripping away rights, under the surface.

They're going to get around to it right after I get the call from Bruno Fernandes.

In contrast, the women who host the Strike & Ellacott Files, a fan podcast about the Cormoran Strike series, have just done an episode in support of JKR and women’s sex-based rights.

They were nervous & I don’t blame them, especially since 2 live in California & 1 in Canada, but they did a brilliant job & deserve praise.

Any ideas why JK pretends Glinner doesn’t exist? I’m curious!

The way the list is structured, it's hard to be sure. But it looks as if it's majority behind the scenes people? That's quite interesting in itself. The amount of agents, editors, directors, producers, and so forth, who are gung-ho about trans might explain why it's been pushed so hard into everything in recent years. We might consider them nobodies, but they've probably been the ones pushing the direction of major productions over the last few years, and will have had the power to make or break careers, in many cases. Up to now, they've been able to operate in anonymity. They might come to regret putting their names to this, as they'll be on people's radar now.

I never thought twice about Hat Trick Productions, before the shameful way they treated Graham Linehan over the Father Ted musical. Now it's the first thing I think of, and I'd be very leery of anything with their name on it.

Up to now, actors have been copping most of the heat for promoting trans ideology. But they must be realising it's toxic to their image. So few big name actors signed this. I wonder if the message is starting to hit home now? Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe were very poor actors, coasting on their childhood success. If their careers seemed to struggle after turning on JK Rowling, well, they weren't doing well to begin with, so it could be chalked up to other factors. Russell T Davies was beloved as Doctor Who showrunner though, and now he's a running joke. David Tennant's career is noticeably on the skids. Pedro Pascal is about to crash out the same way. I almost laugh that he doesn't see it coming. He really thinks women will forget his comments? Oh, dear. Oh, no. Poor Pedro.

Some of these actors really don't seem to realise who their core audience are, and are utterly shocked when they spout some misogynistic bullshit and then experience what I like to call, The Body Shop Phenomenon.

I'm halfway through this (I love the SE Files!) and thought they handled it brilliantly too. I suspect most of the audience are on board, but I hope they don't get too much flack for speaking out.

I was nodding like mad when they got to talking about the state of Harry Potter fandom. The fandom really do act like JKR is Voldemort. I was disgusted by how viciously many of the big fan sites, like MuggleNet, denounced her after her tweet. One of the great things about the Strike books has been the ability to appreciate Rowling's writing with fans of the same age, who actually grew up. I cannot take the childish attitudes you find in most Harry Potter spaces these days. The fun has been sucked right out of it.

Luckily, these people have no interest in Strike and Robin, and so the Strike fan space is refreshingly sane 😁

Charlotte was in a lesbian drama on Channel Four a few years back. Her Canadian co-star, Mae somebody, shoehorned her own non-binary identity into season one, and then transitioned and made the character a trans man for season two. So Charlotte found herself in a completely different show.

I suspect her friendship with this co-star, and the praise she no doubt received for her role as love interest to someone trans, is the reason she signed.
