Feminism: Sex and gender discussions
EndlessTreadmill · 30/04/2025 22:29

I find it incredibly rude and disrespectful towards her.
They are starring in a story SHE created, so they will owe their success to her, yet this is a not-so-subtle dig at her.
If they felt that strongly about it, maybe they shouldn't appear in it at all. They are having their cake and eating it, with an undercurrent of 'ostracising' on her.

I feel so sorry for JKR (and so grateful). It always feels she is so alone, even with the ruling absolutely nobody famous will stand on her side.

CunningLinguist1 · 30/04/2025 22:29

Good!

Harry Potter actors sign trans pledge after Supreme Court ruling
BlueEyedBogWitch · 30/04/2025 22:40

Charlotte Richie. She was in Call the Midwife, wasn’t she?

Playing a midwife from those barbaric days when midwives were allowed to say ‘woman’, ‘mother’ and ‘breastfeeding’. It’s a wonder anyone survived the trauma.

tobee · 30/04/2025 22:42

God I'm so bored of this whining and virtue signalling now. Are we really supposed to care what these here today and gone tomorrow actors and associates have to say? Why are they any more interesting than any other randoms?

The lawyers have spoken . The judgement has been made. End of.

yourhairiswinterfire · 30/04/2025 22:43

I was thinking it was a good thing that the Supreme Court has confirmed that women's, LGB and trans rights are all protected under the EA, but now the Ministry Of Magic Lift has condemned the judgment, I'm having second thoughts.

Surely The Mail is being tongue in cheek with 'A Listers' Grin

Pinkrabbitt · 30/04/2025 23:17

Ooh there's a "Robert Ben Cooper" on the list! 🤣

potionsmistress · 30/04/2025 23:20

I would have thought Paapa would have had to sign a contract to not get involved in the politics of it all. Obviously not. What a disappointment and he hasn’t even started acting in HP yet.

@yourhairiswinterfire your post cracked me up

TheaBrandt1 · 30/04/2025 23:23

Look what happened in the US elections. The Democrats had pretty much all of the main celebrities on board….They massively over estimate their importance and influence.

Dh absolutely hates Eddie Redmayne anyway he is triggered as he’s like the posh boys Dh got stuck with at university who sneered at anyone that went to a state or grammar school. He gets switched off!

Datun · 30/04/2025 23:32

Crikey, that's an awful lot of people who think convicted rapists should get access to incarcerated women. Talk about advertise your misogyny for the whole world to see.

I wonder why the three main actors' names aren't on there. No way they weren't asked.

Also, for the love of God, if you're going to be starring in the woman's show, consider the optics of turning on her in public.

What future employer would hire someone who so zealously enjoys biting the hand that feeds them?

I have an overwhelming urge to channel my inner Kathleen Stock.

Yes, it's almost counter-productive.

It's all so 'third centurion on the right'.

Think so too 😂

NitroNine · 01/05/2025 02:24

Anyone who uses the phrase “the right side of history” (unless mocking or interrogating it) is effectively announcing their opinion should be discounted on grounds of their utter vacuousness. Including anyone eejit enough to sign a letter - open, closed, or indeed ajar - that contains said phrase.

"and Bridgerton’s Nicola Coughlan, who previously said she was “disgusted” by the ruling."

This one is really bothering me. What on earth is there to be disgusted about, they've simply confirmed that a woman is a woman? Confused

My mind is absolutely boggled by people with her attitude.

It incenses me thqt they use their platforms to voice their "disgust" over q judgement that balances rights.

They look so desperately out of touch. How many of them use the NHS, public loos, domestic violence shelters, or have any underdtanding of the harm for women in prisons. They need to check their priviledge and pull thrir heads out their arses as they dont understand what they arr talking about.

ArtemisiaTheArtist · 01/05/2025 05:27

Virtue signallers, all of them. So out of touch with real life.

EweSurname · 01/05/2025 06:01

I actually really like both of these actresses!

Charlotte Ritchie’s been in lots - she was the protagonist in Ghosts and a fairly main character in You.

Daisy Haggard wrote and starred in that thing about a woman trying to find her way after being in prison, and other things that I can’t remember the name of but that were good. Not sure I’d have recognised her as the voice from the lift though!

This letter will get a little bit of publicity but then only exist in the little bubble that these people live in

Most everyday people, just living their lives share the same views as people on this board. That's why all politicians now avoid the issue like the plague. They realise there is a very noisy minority who shout TWAW and a quiet majority who are sympathetic to trans people, want to 'be kind' but understand biological reality.

Let them write their letters. The world has moved on.

TheaBrandt1 · 01/05/2025 07:07

It perfectly encapsulates the whole issue. That certain sections of liberal elite society are sheeplike about enforcing the “right” view and if you stray from the herd you will be ostracised from the gang. Look what happened to Graham Linehan.

CautiousLurker01 · 01/05/2025 07:10

Apart from half a dozen actors in the first 10 lines, I’ve never head of any of these people. Shame about the ones I do recognise - NB Bella is not a surprise, but I really do think we are decades past the stage where actors should act, writers should write, etc. The chances of any of them actually have read and digested the SC properly is so remote that I could care less that they’ve signed a protest letter. It just shows their ignorance.

ChkChkBoom · 01/05/2025 07:12

Essentially, they've signed a document confirming they've read none of the supreme court detail. How very sincere.
"Better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid, than open it and remove all doubt" springs to mind!

TheaBrandt1 · 01/05/2025 07:14

I mean really what adult over 12 looks to an actor to see what is the right political view?!

I’d be delighted if just one interviewer ever asked them “you signed a letter in opposition to the recent Supreme Court ruling, which section did you particularly object to?”

famous blokes wanting to give away womens single sex spaces that keep women safe.

The types who think social media reflects reality. The notion of looking beyond twitter trends, in order to inform themselves, is alien to them.
