On R4 at 7.50!!

She said she spoke on behalf of the government, they welcome the judgement and it is now clear, provision must be based on Biological Sex!

Apologies for posting then running (have an appt to get to). but didn’t see another thread on this.

(If you have the sounds App you should easily beable to go to 7.50 and listen)

I've missed the Tories apologies for presiding over this mess in the first place, but better late than never I suppose.

Didn't the Tories instigate the Cass review? Not defending them because they could have done a lot more, but they at least set some groundwork.

ErrolTheDragon · 22/04/2025 10:16

no need to do that but it would be good if those who were actively and passively complicit in undermining women’s rights did apologise now, whatever their political hue is.

Agreed

Felinnefine · 22/04/2025 10:14

No. As an ex Labour voter I’ve been totally betrayed by the Labour Party. As all women have. Helen Joyce is happy with Bridget’s interview, amazing. But some of us want more from Labour, we want more from the PM of the UK.

I'm very pleased by BP and Starmer’s response, but if I was to ever consider voting Labour again it'd take a fucking wheen more than that to convince me they're not vacuous, lying, misogynist, opportunist cowards with flexible morals.

PattyDukeAstin · 22/04/2025 10:21

The Supreme Court judgement gives essential clarity from which we move forward. I am not a fan of the labour government at the moment but posters using this interview as a reason to bash the government and explain how much they hate KS is pointless general labour bashing. What happens next is the most important thing.

ArabellaScott · 22/04/2025 10:21

And yes that goes for every party. If they're not aware the damage done to public confidence in politics over this they'd better wake the fuck up sharply.

HipTightOnions · 22/04/2025 10:21

I’m looking forward to a video stitching together all the politicians’ “before and after” comments.

I assume Mr Menno is on it!

Kinsters · 22/04/2025 10:22

Keir Starmer saying that a woman is an adult human female is a huge win! Should they apologise to the women wronged? Yes. Will they? Unlikely. I don't think it much matters personally.

Luckily they now have four years to prove to voters that they take women's rights seriously.

PMQs will be interesting this week 🍿

Kemi will ask if Keir Starmer accepts the judgement.

He'll say Yes.

Then she'll ask him again five times.

Her fans will see it as a triumph.

Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 22/04/2025 10:24

She should ask if he regrets his previous comments on the issue.

autumn1610 · 22/04/2025 10:24

So if TW have to use male toilets….then do trans men have to use female? I can certainly say I would be more uncomfortable with that than a TW

Hopefully she will ask him if he thinks some women have penises.

If Helen Joyce can call BP's interview "really excellent" I'm not sure what people are finding to nitpick about it here. It's almost like they'd prefer the government not to say this so they can carry on attacking Labour.......

I’d agree, I don’t really want to turn into a facsimile of TRAs where nothing less than complete agreement phrased a specific way will ever be good enough.

I think the politicians who will be working on the implementation of clarification and a rollback of stonewall misinformation should feel and hear support. I do appreciate they should of done more and earlier. However probably work out better if not feeling constant criticism from both sides.

Transmen are women, they’re welcome to use women’s toilets.

Quite.

Labour got in at the GE because they weren't the Tories. That was it.

We are at risk of having a large number of Reform MPs at the next one because they aren't the usual politicians.

Só you’re more comfortable with a man in the toilets than a woman on testosterone? Why?

You do realise that a “trans woman” is any man who says he is a woman? So this statement doesn’t make sense 🤷‍♀️

This is that moment that we've all hoped for. But it's unreasonable to expect women not to express some snark about labour's extensive campaign of bullying, hectoring, intimidating and kicking women out of the labour party in order to prioritise "trans rights".
I get it's a golden bridge and that they're busily reverse ferreting across it.
But with the exception of Wes Streeting, none of them have yet found the moral courage to apologise for their previous misogyny and anti women rhetoric / actions. Which speaks to their character and personal ethics.

So if you saw a trans man in the toilet how would you know they are not male and challenge them? Because some are extremely muscular and have beards 🤷‍♀️ and are very male presenting

I’ve met several transmen. They were quite obviously women. Wonderful women at that. Sorry to disappoint.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 22/04/2025 10:30

Do you think all masculine looking women should use the men’s toilets @autumn1610?

I just wish people who aren't going to vote Labour under any circumstances just got on with voting for someone else.

I thought the whole objective of campaigning for women's rights was to get the government to adopt the position you wanted? It seems to be a new type of campaigning now (not confined to this issue) that we seem more obsessed with what politicians "think" than what they actually do.

Every politician must have personal views of how they think things should be which they know aren't going to happen. How could it be otherwise in a democracy?

To me the interviewer seemed to be representative of the view that it's all well and good for the Supreme Court to hand down a judgment, but we can really expect it to be implemented when it would be so terribly mean?

well interviewers often take an opposing view from the person they are interviewing because two people sitting agreeing with each other doesn't oftem make good meejer

Hwi · 22/04/2025 10:30

They could use disabled toilets if there is nobody in the disabled toilet or no queue for it? No?
