On R4 at 7.50!!

She said she spoke on behalf of the government, they welcome the judgement and it is now clear, provision must be based on Biological Sex!

Apologies for posting then running (have an appt to get to). but didn’t see another thread on this.

(If you have the sounds App you should easily beable to go to 7.50 and listen)

Challenging people in toilets may be embarrassing and/or require courage and assertiveness people may not be able to personally rouse, and is all about dealing with individuals.

However, I think that one of the main strengths of this clarification is that it gives the ability to ask an organisation 'is this a single sex changing room/toilet/service?' and get a definite answer. And if the answer is 'no' making a decision with your feet. Or if it's yes and proves to be incorrect, having the law on your side when you complain.

These actions will have a wider reaching affect then dealing with entitled idiots on a one to one basis (despite this being needed for safeguarding at the immediate time)

If Helen Joyce can call BP's interview "really excellent" I'm not sure what people are finding to nitpick about it here. It's almost like they'd prefer the government not to say this so they can carry on attacking Labour.......

Starmer's a lawyer. Glad he took his time to come out unequivocally to make a very clear statement about the ruling and will ensure that the law will be adhered to.

I disagree. I think it’s given young women the confidence to say eg. ‘get out of here, you’re male’ in nightclubs. There’s been a lot of ‘but I identify as’ smirky men who can’t use that excuse now.

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/09/26/moustached-man-refuses-leave-female-toilet-identifies-woman/

Didn't Eddie Izzard claim that some young women had chased him out of a women's toilet once. Obviously, he was the "victim" in his tale. I hope he apologises to those young women now, whom he portrayed as bigots, rather than as the law abiding citizens they were.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 22/04/2025 10:33

autumn1610 · 22/04/2025 10:28

So if you saw a trans man in the toilet how would you know they are not male and challenge them? Because some are extremely muscular and have beards 🤷‍♀️ and are very male presenting

Some pass well and many don't. But the law is now clear and people are going to have to accept the consequences for the decisions they've made. I have huge compassion for the young women who've been gaslit into believing they could sex change out of their women's bodies - they're the victims of the most abysmal scandal and left with awful long term health issues after the brutal experimental drugs and surgery so many of them have endured.

They are victims of this cynical movement and I can only hope that they're loved and supported by friends and family and that they understand that needing validation by others of your "identity" is not a healthy way to live.

Do you think all masculine looking women should use the men’s toilets @autumn1610?

No I don’t I Didn’t say that did I? Just wondering if the ruling applies both ways, male only spaces and female only spaces. Not even asked what my opinion is on trans just jumping on me for a logical question. No I don’t believe biological born men are women, I believe they are trans women.

EasternStandard · 22/04/2025 10:36

HPFA · 22/04/2025 10:30

I just wish people who aren't going to vote Labour under any circumstances just got on with voting for someone else.

I thought the whole objective of campaigning for women's rights was to get the government to adopt the position you wanted? It seems to be a new type of campaigning now (not confined to this issue) that we seem more obsessed with what politicians "think" than what they actually do.

Every politician must have personal views of how they think things should be which they know aren't going to happen. How could it be otherwise in a democracy?

Of course people will vote for other parties, rn support for Labour is lower than the other two parties.

NoFineBalance · 22/04/2025 10:37

ScribblingPixie · 22/04/2025 09:30

Not at all. It's extremely important to be able to challenge or report someone hanging around a women's space - or simply spin around and exit pronto - without worrying that you might end up in trouble yourself.

It's also important for establishing criminal intent. If a biological man is present in a toilet/changing area and a woman claims she has been assaulted, it will be much more straightforward establishing that his presence was nefarious rather than innocent, now that is is clear to all men that they should not be entering female only spaces, no matter how they identify.

Yes the ruling applies both ways.

Should not Starmer apologise to children such as this poor girl. Directly impacted by his party’s bullshit?

And as PP said above, to the poor children (and parents) who have been told and gas lit into thinking something is real and tangible, when it is not? Their lives have been changed for ever.

People who’s careers have been ruined, for the same?

People think it’s acceptable that he does not apologise?? Do me a favour.

6th form girl bullied out of school for saying biological sex is real

This week, it was revealed that a teenage girl was hounded out of a private Home Counties school for questioning why transgender beliefs are not debated more openly.

They could use disabled toilets if there is nobody in the disabled toilet or no queue for it? No?

Absolutely not.

Identifying as trans is not a disability.

It's a choice.

Not sure where to share this as it could go on so many threads now, but Helen Joyce shared this and I think it’s marvellous:

You’re all jumping on me for a question when you don’t know my view or asked about it. I dont feel comfortable with either if I’m being honest 🤷‍♀️ some trans males are very masculine presenting so that was my question about TM in women’s spaces. It’s also uncomfortable

I'd quite like an apology from the Labour party about the Rosie Duffield treatment, the ejection from the party of GC women which was supported by the likes of Lisa Nandy. I'm not about to let them rewrite history, loads of us on MN chose not to vote Labour because of their views on this issue. BP is agreeing with a law that she should have been fucking agreeing with years ago.

And how come she's speaking for the government on this, does KS consider it beneath his pay grade?

She's the Equalities Minster. She's a perfectly appropriate person to speak about it.

If Keir Starmer did say anything there'd soon be a thread full of complaints about why what he said wasn't good enough. I'd sooner he got on with studying the judgement and putting the right policies in place in response.

DragonRunor · 22/04/2025 10:43

autumn1610 · 22/04/2025 10:24

So if TW have to use male toilets….then do trans men have to use female? I can certainly say I would be more uncomfortable with that than a TW

Really? Why?

I didn't notice Labour were in power for the last fourteen years.

Shouldn't you be calling on the Tories to apologise?

Phillipson was clear, but seemed reluctant to say out loud that trans women must use men’s toilets. She kept saying they must use the toilet matching their biological sex. I know it amounts to the same thing (except to the extremists who claim trans women ARE biological women because the hormones change their sex, or some such nonsense), but she clearly didn’t want to say it.

To be fair she's been one of many swearing up is down for so long it's going to take a while for her to get her head round the fact that the words she uses now have to change.

But at least she came down on the actual right side of history for once.

Think we all recognise that he's got egg on his face after his previous nonsensical comments (kind description) about women and openly presiding over a party intent on bullying sex realist women out of it.

I've no doubt he'll be asked about this and no doubt he'll robotically respond with today's version of reality. Suspect expecting an emotionally intelligent response from him is too much .

Love this! It's what should have been happening all along - men expanding the bandwidth of what being a man looks and feels like, and being accepting of differences that don't adhere to traditional notions of masculinity. Just like women have done for decades.

Because some are very male presenting? Muscular and beards etc so how would you know without making a tit out of yourself that they are biologically female? When I’m in there with someone who is presenting very male?

Was Bridget P thought to be closet GC or a beee kiiiinder? I can't remember.

Now she needs to have a word with NEU...who have stated their intent to defy the ruling - in schools.
