On R4 at 7.50!!

She said she spoke on behalf of the government, they welcome the judgement and it is now clear, provision must be based on Biological Sex!

Apologies for posting then running (have an appt to get to). but didn’t see another thread on this.

(If you have the sounds App you should easily beable to go to 7.50 and listen)

Labour will be aware that the Supreme Court have done them a massive favour. Labour can shift position on gender ideology significantly and say that they're just following the law. And they no get to step away from the debate having turned into a minefield for them before the judgment.

borntobequiet · 22/04/2025 09:02

And BP had to concede. Well played, Anna.

Maybe I misinterpreted her intention.

Nominative · 22/04/2025 09:03

But it's a bit meaningless, isn't it? It's not as if anyone polices entry to the toilets. I suspect lots of TW who have quietly been using women's toilets for years without anyone noticing will just continue.

EasternStandard · 22/04/2025 09:08

Well done FWS and everyone that worked with them. You did this.

Amazing women. Phillipson did the whole it won’t be the case much as unisex, cubicles blah blah but yep given a choice today a transwomen should choose the biological sex provision, ie men’s.

Bravo to every woman who didn’t give up in the face of abuse and Labour waffle.

They will have been noticed most of the time, but women have been kind and tolerant. The proposed policy of gender self-ID blew all this compromise out of the water. It was a spectacular own goal for the trans movement. They only have themselves to blame.

You think that they believe they are above the law?

(can't be bothered to counter the 'nobody notices' nonsense)

She was brilliant. The interviewer was absolutely obsessed with toilets, but BP managed to talk about the actual important stuff.

What is Annex B??

No she had to get a clear answer.

Philipson was reluctant but the interviewer got the statement. The interviewer did well.

I disagree. I think it’s given young women the confidence to say eg. ‘get out of here, you’re male’ in nightclubs. There’s been a lot of ‘but I identify as’ smirky men who can’t use that excuse now.

TeenagersAngst · 22/04/2025 09:13

I just can't take any Labour politician seriously on the issue when you consider what they have said in recent years.

Anas Sarwar's claim to have supported this position all along was quite incredible. Bare faced lying.

Bridget Phillipson must be relieved not to have to contort herself into saying men can have penises, or whatever BS she has spouted in the past.

Useful idiots, the lot of them.

This^
And I suspect now the great feminist Nicola Sturgeon has gone many in Scottish Gov will feel likewise

Keeptoiletssafe · 22/04/2025 09:15

If Bridget is relieved, that will spread to lots of other less powerful women and girls being relieved too.

Well done BP!!!

That's going to cause a bit of embarrassment when the people ordered out turn out to be women.

jodolun · 22/04/2025 09:17

I heard this interview earlier and it was great to hear someone from the government and speaking for the government confirm that transwomen or trans identifying males need to use the male toilets i.e. the men's. This is a clear change from where we were a year ago when the same person was saying that males who identified as women could use the female toilets. I do think bathrooms and changing rooms are important, I agree that prisons, hospitals and crisis centres are paramount but for its critical that all women feel safe and have a safe space to go when out and about.

I'm disgusted at continued assertation by trans activists that they fully intend to ignore the law and to continue to their campaign against women's sex based rights. To me that just shows how much the trans activists are really men's rights activists. Any talk of third spaces for trans people is shouted down. If this were really about their safety then they would be happy with that but again they continue to demand access to women's spaces and the women in them for their own personal validation and gratification of their fantasies that they too are women when they are not, never have been and never will be.

Schoolchoicesucks · 22/04/2025 09:20

I whooped when I heard her. I thought she was good, very clear and the interviewer didn't need to keep going or trying to trip her up - she said use the facilities for biological sex, a lot of the time in small cafes that will be one unisex facility, other areas are important and the EHRC guidance will be critical and needs to come quickly.

EasternStandard · 22/04/2025 09:20

We’re going to see men react as they will.

On another radio an equality lawyer said politicians and organisations had pretty much being lying to them about access and the law hasn’t changed. FWS just got the SC to tell people what the law is meant to be.

Labour have been woeful. Thanks to those who took this to the top.

WorriedMutha · 22/04/2025 09:20

I'm sure some of them will @Nominative but they can be confronted and the buzz they get from being able to lord it over you has gone with their entitlement. A man can walk into a children's changing room or a breastfeeding rest room or a room with a 'staff only' sign. They can't be stopped without a risky physical confrontation but their entitlement has gone. Most will tow the line. Eddie Izzard has used the ladies loo but whilst he is still trying to forge a political career for himself, I expect he will be giving it a swerve. They are now going to have to learn to navigate the gents and the power balance has shifted.
We are seeing the death throes of this oppressive movement and I'm sure the strategic thinkers amongst them will be scheming but now that no debate has been seen off, they are going to have to change public opinion and so far they haven't demonstrated that they possess the skill set.

I heard Bridget gulp once, but she seemed pretty clear. It was a smart move to sneak these qns in before school breakfasts (but she seemed to be well briefed to expect to be quizzed).

I’m guessing that Wes is “too busy” to do any interviews for the foreseeable.

FWIW, I tend to avoid using cafe/pub loos, but I can’t think of many that aren’t marked male and female.

I work out and about so am often on the hunt for a loo. I come across gender neutral loos much more frequently these days so male / female sign on the door. I was in a Tim Hortons the other day for example and their loos were mostly unisex. One that was just gents ( only a urinal) plus a disabled / unisex. A lot of cafes only have one loo that is male/female/ disabled.

They’ve closed all the public toilets where I live so for me it’s mostly just supermarkets that have single sex toilets.

You mean they have been doing it, biological women felt awful and afraid to use the toilets and to stand up and say anything.

I'm sure you meant that.

A bit of embarrassment is fine. Men in women's spaces isn't.

Thank goodness. I’m getting so cheesed off with the whole business. Can we please just accept it and move on, or do we need more pissing and graffiti first?

The more pissing and graffiti is, the quicker the general "be kind" public will understand exactly who they are pandering to.

senua · 22/04/2025 09:27

If there is provision for men-only but not for women-only isn't that sex discrimination?

As we have been told for years, predatory and abusive men will always ignore women's boundaries and/or seek to transgress them.

That will not change. But at least the law is clear.

Some people will break the law, yes.

Yes indirect sex discrimination because it disadvantages female people.

Tim Hortons is a Canadian Company, which explains a lot, but I've seen that set up elsewhere too.

I think some letters need a -writing to CEO's.

My DD is tall and strong and used to do a job more often done by men. She wore jeans, heavy jumpers and wore a hat (she worked outside). On occasion she was mistaken, momentarily, for a man when she was in the ladies’. She laughed, they apologised. No problem, no fuss.

When I was younger I did a similar job and was often mistaken for a boy, including, when I first met him, by my children’s father. (In fact he threatened to deck me for laughing at him, but that’s another story).

It’s really not a big deal.

Kinsters · 22/04/2025 09:30

This is amazing! "I speak for the government...[trans women are not women]". I can hardly believe it. What a change this is. Well done to the women who have fought so long and hard and against such odds to achieve this change. I'm waiting eagerly for the house of commons statement. I hope the delay of a statement from KS is evidence that they are treating this seriously and have prepared a comprehensive and unarguable response. Maybe I need to go and buy some more prosecco!
