On R4 at 7.50!!

She said she spoke on behalf of the government, they welcome the judgement and it is now clear, provision must be based on Biological Sex!

Apologies for posting then running (have an appt to get to). but didn’t see another thread on this.

(If you have the sounds App you should easily beable to go to 7.50 and listen)

And yes to PP who asked about what BP is doing about schools wrt this judgement. That’s her area and come on Bridget, do your job.

We shouldn’t be happy with crumbs like this morning, it shows how low they’ve taken us.

Not really. If the woman checked turns out to be female, I am sure that firstly it will become obvious quite quickly, and secondly she will reassure and thank the woman who was doing the asking for defending single sex spaces.

Just like if ‘actual’ women are ‘misgendered’ they just correct and move on. They are secure enough that their reality is unaltered by anyone else getting it wrong.

My husband and son (and I) have long hair. The number of times we go to a restaurant and a harried waitperson says “Table for 3, ladies?” is uncountable. And you know what? No one has ever died.

lifeturnsonadime · 22/04/2025 10:06

So he's changed his tune, but no apology or acknowledgement of the fact he previously said 1% of women have penises?

Pathetic.

I just can't take any Labour politician seriously on the issue when you consider what they have said in recent years.

Anas Sarwar's claim to have supported this position all along was quite incredible. Bare faced lying.

Bridget Phillipson must be relieved not to have to contort herself into saying men can have penises, or whatever BS she has spouted in the past.

Useful idiots, the lot of them.

Edited

There is definitely less umming and aahhing now on the topic, you know, just like we've enjoyed all along as we had clear definitive answers. Because they're working with the truth now! How refreshing. I hope MPs will feel the benefit tbh.

Great interview thanks for the link.

Tim Hortons: One that was just gents (only a urinal) plus a disabled / unisex.
If there is provision for men-only but not for women-only isn't that sex discrimination?

Possibly there was a ladies only to balance it out, I will have a closer look at signs next time. I think there was a practicality aspect in that this self contained cubicle was too narrow to fit a loo but can squeeze in a urinal. I don’t mind that, I use this coffee shop a lot as they have plenty of charging sockets, 3 hours free parking, there are plenty of toilets and they are clean. Maybe lots of blokes prefer a urinal. This frees up the unisex provision and keeps pee off of the toilet seat.

I've missed the Tories apologies for presiding over this mess in the first place, but better late than never I suppose.

If Helen Joyce can call BP's interview "really excellent" I'm not sure what people are finding to nitpick about it here. It's almost like they'd prefer the government not to say this so they can carry on attacking Labour.......

but but but how did you cope with such literal violence???

my understanding is that the correct response is to immediately kick off hurling abuse at the person who said it whilst filming yourself doing so and then later to take to Tik tok doing a mad angry cry about your literal existence being erased

you mean you didn’t do that??

You forgot the “and then throw piss at people” requirement.

Really? 🤔 Let’s not go over the history of the western world captured by the gender ideology debacle.

nauticant · 22/04/2025 10:12

Speaking on Tuesday morning, Conservative spokesperson Chris Philp said the prime minister should apologise “to the country” and to a former Labour MP for his previous comments on gender identity.

Philp, the shadow home secretary, told Sky News: “Keir Starmer has been all over the place on this. He claimed a year or two ago, that women could have penises, which is ridiculous.

“He even drove Rosie Duffield out of the Labour Party for taking a common sense view of this issue, which has now been vindicated by the Supreme Court judgement.

“So Keir Starmer should apologise to the country for what he said a few years ago. He should particularly apologise to Rosie Duffield for driving her out of the Labour Party on this issue. So I completely welcome the Supreme Court judgement.”

HPFA · 22/04/2025 09:59

Exactly.

Most people aren't going to be searching intently for stray transwomen in female loos but it should put a stop to the idiots going in to flash their dicks around.

The ruling is clear though, all males regardless of how they identify need to use the men's facilities doing anything else is a transgression of women's rights and the law.

@BiologicalRobot was absolutely correct, its up to men to police themselves, the only man who continues to insist on invading women's single sex spaces is a "wrong 'un".

Really? Labour brought in the GRA, and caused all
this mess. And have only clarified due to brave women pushing on it.

No. As an ex Labour voter I’ve been totally betrayed by the Labour Party. As all women have. Helen Joyce is happy with Bridget’s interview, amazing. But some of us want more from Labour, we want more from the PM of the UK.

"Having BP Education minister talking about this on an early morning radio show isn’t enough."

BP is also the Minister for Women and Equalities, so this is part of her remit, and the most appropriate person to talk about it.

fromorbit · 22/04/2025 10:16

On a visit to a school in south-west England, Starmer told the BBC: “I welcome the decision of the Supreme Court, which has given us clarity, much-needed clarity, and I think for those that are now drawing up guidance, it’s a much clearer position.

“So I’m really pleased that the court has now clarified the position. We can move on from there and I think that’s been very helpful, and I would welcome that.”

Asked further whether this means he does not believe a trans woman is in fact a woman, the PM said: “A woman is an adult female, and the court has made that absolutely clear.”

Starmer also suggested guidance needs to be shared to public bodies to ensure all organisations following the ruling.

“We need to move and make sure that we now ensure that all guidance is in the right place according to that judgment”, he told ITV West Country.

That is it folks. It looks we have WON! Of course this could be A HUGE LIE.

We keep watching and judging, wait for the guidance, but Labour right now look to be obeying the LAW.

Keep fighting. They are only doing this because they are scared. As soon as we show weakness they will swap sides.

no need to do that but it would be good if those who were actively and passively complicit in undermining women’s rights did apologise now, whatever their political hue is.

HPFA · 22/04/2025 09:56

Of course this was going to be the government's position.

A few Labour MPs bleating was never going to alter that.

I think Labour really have no choice, for several reasons.

  1. The Equality Act is their own legislation and a fair number of Labour MPs were involved in drafting it. They cannot now claim that they intended the Gender Recognition Act to supersede women's sex based rights because they did not draft that, they did not even hint it, the Supreme Court could not find any indication that that is what they meant, and you will not find it in Hansard either. If it were Tory legislation they could at least say, "We would have done it differently."
  2. They previously said that the Equality Act does not need amending to clarify that sex means biological sex, because this is already clear. They didn't say it shouldn't be amended to clarify that sex means biological sex because it actually means legal sex. This means that they are already on record as agreeing with the Supreme Court that it is bloody obvious that sex means biological sex and that the legislation is fine the way it is and doesn't need amending.
  3. If they were to perform a U-turn now and say that yes, their legislation is clear, but actually it is wrong and should be changed, they would have to say to the electorate that yes, actually, they think the demands of the violent, woman hating thugs currently defacing statues, threatening to kill TERFs, throwing their piss everywhere and generally openly defying the law should be prioritised over women's right to single sex safe spaces.
Sweetpeasaremadeforbees · 22/04/2025 10:18

I'd quite like an apology from the Labour party about the Rosie Duffield treatment, the ejection from the party of GC women which was supported by the likes of Lisa Nandy. I'm not about to let them rewrite history, loads of us on MN chose not to vote Labour because of their views on this issue. BP is agreeing with a law that she should have been fucking agreeing with years ago.

And how come she's speaking for the government on this, does KS consider it beneath his pay grade?

I think Helen Joyce is being extremely charitable and is trying to focus on the future. Good for her.

But I struggle to forget all the ridiculous interviews with politicians (of all stripes) fumbling about and trying to explain how women could have penises or grow a cervix. Did they really believe this stuff? If they did, why aren't they sticking to their beliefs? If they didn't, why did they lie? Either way, the optics are terrible.
