Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

a list of men or companies who have stood up for us

siucra · 20/04/2025 19:17

Like so many here, I have been disheartened by the lack of support from so many famous men, those I liked and or admired are now and will forever be in my blacklist. Same for companies.
This whole experience has been so hard and I thank all the incredible women who carried on and spoke for us...
However, who are the men who were on our side? Andrew Neil? Piers Morgan? There aren't many but would love to hear some names of those who put women first...

'I heard BoJo unexpectedly speaking some sense on the matter in the HoC towards the end of his tenure.'

I would put him in the same box as Trump - absolutely couldn't give a crap about women, but will say anything that benefits himself and makes him look tough

Dave Chapelle

Well he's a massive blowhard and that's obviously not a nice thing to say. But perhaps actions speak louder than words in this case.

Actions like the alleged multiple sex offences against women? Or reinstating the Global Gag Rule?

How you can say he stands up for women when he's been found liable for sexual abuse in a court, and that's before we even get onto the other stuff...

Well I have no idea how your thinking works, but I'm struggling to believe anyone who really cares about women could be so unfathomably narrow minded.

Yes to all above. And Justin Webb was absolutely brilliant - especially as Nick Robison was utterly disgusting about it all. Will never forgive him.

When was this?Confused AFAIK Nick Robinson is firmly onside. He and Justin are a double-team.

Marilyn has been very vocal about keeping men out of our spaces. He said on X this week that Boy George hung up on him a few days ago cos he refused to stop saying stuff about trans women and he basically said Marilyn was ruining his career by doing this. Says it all really.

Robert Webb

I posted a tweet years ago to say how disappointed I was with Robert Webb calling out Mermaids. That was before I did my critical thinking and I still feel bad about that now.

Mmmnotsure · 20/04/2025 22:28

It's striking how very few companies anyone can think of

Pretty sure Boy George ruined his career by handcuffing an escort to a radiator, beating him and going to jail for it.

AInightingale · 20/04/2025 22:29

I remember when Ian McEwan made some statements criticising gender self-identification some years ago, then crumbled completely when he was challenged about it. Same as Stephen King. Pathetic cowardly men both.

Coincidentally, or perhaps not, I've always found McEwan's portrayals of female characters to be one-dimensional and shit.

Eggtoastie · 20/04/2025 22:31

James Dreyfus, though he's probably already been mentioned

Discofish · 20/04/2025 22:36

Just stumbled across this, I haven't read the other replies, so someone's probably already mentioned him- Professor Robert Winston (the labour peer and biologist) gave a beautiful speech in the Lords back in...2021? (I think that was the year, I remember being on mat leave). The Lords made an amendment to the MOMA Bill to include the word mother. I remember watching it on Parliament TV online and he said something like "everyone in this chamber was born from a mothers uterus"... "only a woman can give rise to a baby".

He was also on question time either that same year or maybe the following year and when asked a question skirting around the edges said "well I'd rather hoped you were going to ask my view as a biologist..." then proceeded to talk about sex being immutable and how he receives death threats every time he talks about it.

I have a lot of respect for him.

The grumpy tennis player.......can't for the life of me remember his name though 🤣🤣🤣

Sorry I meant Boy George said Marilyn was ruining his career by telling trans women to keep out of womens spaces.

I think we should nominate @glinner for an honour in recognition of his services to women. And keep doing it until he gets one.

Edited to correct my Freudian slip!!

madamovaries · 20/04/2025 22:43

I think Wes Streeting actually did realise the issue, just a bit late. Still way ahead of many of his Labour colleagues.

Justin Webb has been mentioned but think deserves a lot of credit. He understood it early and was supportive to a lot of women at the BBC (which treats its older female staff fairly abysmally generally and which has been awful on this issue in particular).

Waitwhat23 · 20/04/2025 22:45

EdithStourton · 20/04/2025 22:10

I'm sorry, but anyone who thinks TWAW and supports TW in women's spaces and sports has either not the issue through, or doesn't give a shit about women.

The men named on this thread have been clear-sighted and have often had considerable moral courage. Some of them have paid a massive price, personally and financially, for refusing to deny reality and for standing up for women. They deserve our respect.

Some of the other little weasels.... don't.

Yep.

The men who stood up for women, often to their own cost, have been excellent. Some have even made mention of the fact that in most cases, the abuse they have received would have been even worse if they had been women.

The ones who didn't say anything but didn't actually push TWAW, I can understand. They could have been more courageous but it's understandable.

The ones who actively pushed TWAW? They are anti women. They see us as support humans, plain and simple. It doesn't affect them and they couldn't see why women couldn't just be kind.

Felinnefine · 20/04/2025 21:11

Yes. Tony Blair. Knew what he was talking about. Stupid stupid Labour fools who came after him.

Also good at prosecuting illegal wars. Fine chap.

Suzexu · 20/04/2025 22:52

Barry Humphries
He was having none of the trans bollox.

Rob Brydon, I seem to recall, had a giggle with Ruth Jones about the whole ridiculousness of it.

I know all this sex/gender nonsense is very confusing, but I can confirm that Helena Bonham Carter is not a man.

I need to know how? 😂

OneOfThoseOldFashionedWomen · 20/04/2025 23:00

Glinner (again, his substack and tweets mean I will list him forever)

But Murdo Fraser, at a time where is was difficult in Scotland.

Ricky Gervais - because he was above being cancelled, and was the reason that people started talking to me about the issues- I was an outlier at work (supported by the wonder women on here) yet when he did his sketch people started to realise I had a point.

James Dreyfus.

Sharon Davies, not a man, or a company, but such a beacon.

SquirrelSoShiny · 20/04/2025 23:01

Andrew Doyle Flowers
Mr Menno Flowers

Needmoresleep · 20/04/2025 23:04

Worth remembering that transgender does not need to mean TRA

Miranda Yardley who fought that weird case against the Mermaids woman Helen Islan.

Rose of Dawn and the brilliant podcasts outlining trans-lunacy. Rose was the one who exposed the trans student union bloke who in turn exposed himself at a bus stop, and who also plugged away at the awful Canadian who used to want his privates massaged. (I think that is right. I need R0wantrees to return with the detail)

Fionne Orlander who detailed their battle with gender dysphoria.

There were others. Important voices.

Edited

Seconded. He needs his own thread.

He also needs Father Ted the Musical to come to fruition.
