Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

a list of men or companies who have stood up for us

Like so many here, I have been disheartened by the lack of support from so many famous men, those I liked and or admired are now and will forever be in my blacklist. Same for companies.
This whole experience has been so hard and I thank all the incredible women who carried on and spoke for us...
However, who are the men who were on our side? Andrew Neil? Piers Morgan? There aren't many but would love to hear some names of those who put women first...

I'll give 1/2 point to Tom Felton for not outright attacking JK Rowling like his other shit head Harry Potter co-stars. He at least said nice things about her and didn't throw her under the bus, which would have been easy at the time.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 20/04/2025 21:56

Alice Cooper stood up for us.

abracabarbara · 20/04/2025 21:57

Simon Fanshawe

I love the interview when he's praised for being the 'first person ever to win two Olympic tennis gold medals' and he pointed out that Serena and Venus Williams had already got 'about 4 gold medals each' and another interview when another tennis player was praised for being 'the first US player to reach a major semi final since 2009' and Andy said 'first male'.

I love Andy. He has real respect for women players. And the first?? (only) top male player to have a female coach.

madamovaries · 20/04/2025 21:59

Simon Fanshawe, one of the founders of Stonewall. How far that organisation drifted

Alice Cooper stood up for us.

Wasn't aware of that but always ♥️ him. Glad I don't have to change my opinion.

What a lovely thread. I'd forgotten some of the battles lost and won.
I tried tunnocks because of the hoo-ha. Unfortunately I detest them.

What, every single offering? Even caramel wafers?
<baffled>

IIRC, the Triggernometry boys took a while to come round, but reality gradually sank in.

Graham Linehan has been utterly amazing.

And David TC Davis has been hot on women's rights for a long time. He was a very loud voice for women after the Cologne assaults in 2015/16, and very responsive. I'm not a Tory, but I'm a big fan. I think he has a moral compass, which an awful lot of politicians seem to lack.

I listen to a dog training podcast (well, several) and missed a whole chunk of one as the presenter said something that had me yelling joyfully, 'He sees sense! He gets it! Woot woot woot!'

Yes!! What a hero, in all the ways. No black face, no woman face. Attacked by gay rioters he’d protected.

The arseholes who try to tel him of all people that a transwoman started the Stonewall riots 🤬🤯

Not just words -
David Spiers, the GC piper (Sandie Peggie)

NoFineBalance · 20/04/2025 22:03

There were a number of Tory men who stood up for women and girls and the crap being fed to kids via sex ed/pshe during the Parliamentary debate of the Education Bill (that I think was shelved when Boris Johnson resigned). One of them was Peter Bottomley. Wish I could remember the others.

Treeleaf11 · 20/04/2025 22:04

Chris Tomlinson - former long jumper

PhatGurlSlim · 20/04/2025 22:07

I wish I had not read this thread. While I welcome the recent ruling I absolutely abhor the battle that ensued around it and I can't see the value in making such a list. I don't think men who supported the idea that TWAW are anti feminist or are not allies to women.

Barbadossunset · 20/04/2025 22:07

Am waiting to see if the foul James O'Brien will ever do a reverse ferret on this.

I am also awaiting this - but I’m not very hopeful.

NoFineBalance · 20/04/2025 22:07

Craig Lord, swimming/olympic correspondent at the Times, who contributed his name and words to Sharron Davies's book, Unfair Play.

Arty Morty
Andrew Doyle
Debbie Hayton
Mr Menno
Duncan Bannatyne
David TC Davis

Andew Doyle - gay and supported us - so not all gay people abandoned us.
Debbie Hayton - fantastic, clever.

I'm sorry, but anyone who thinks TWAW and supports TW in women's spaces and sports has either not the issue through, or doesn't give a shit about women.

The men named on this thread have been clear-sighted and have often had considerable moral courage. Some of them have paid a massive price, personally and financially, for refusing to deny reality and for standing up for women. They deserve our respect.

Some of the other little weasels.... don't.

MyHeartyCoralSnail · 20/04/2025 22:11

Bruce Dickinson (singer of Iron Maiden) - made it very clear on several occasions he thought it was a load of bollocks.. years ago he said something about women should support trans people -someone then clearly handed his arse to him on a plate and he changed his tune. I actually got kicked off an unofficial fan site because I said I agreed with him.

Good old Marilyn didn't let us down. I suspected that Boy George was on our side but didn't say anything.

Sadly, Boy George, is on the side of men with womanz feelz. Huge disappointment.

Oliver Brown from the Telegraph

He has been incredible. What amazing writing.

cariadlet · 20/04/2025 22:14

I wouldn't normally include a TIM on a list of male allies but I've just seen a great interview which Miranda Yardley did for LBC in the wake of the Supreme Court judgement and it reminded me that he's always been GC.

Isn’t it incredibly sad how quickly and easily women were thrown under the bus.

The protests today, saying terms should be hung, women threatened with death isn’t that hate speech where is our protection why isn’t there an outcry against these threats by the authorities?

MrsJRHartley · 20/04/2025 22:18

I heard BoJo unexpectedly speaking some sense on the matter in the HoC towards the end of his tenure.

SageHoney · 20/04/2025 22:21

Kenny MacAskill - former Scottish Justice Secretary and later (SNP and then Alba) UK MP. He made it very clear that he does not speak for feminists or women or include himself in those categories, but that "justice" has a meaning and has value. And "justice" applies to all humans equally, including women - however controversial or risible the hot takes of the day may find that concept.
