This statement, and the comments underneath it absolutely baffle me.

The approach, one that I am sure will only work with a minority of the people who said TWAW, is to undermine the definition of words, yet again, and deliberately cloud the water when it comes to speaking clearly and using terms that everyone agrees with

@user1492538376just because things get messy at the micro level (which is largely irrelevant to how humans organise their response to objective reality) doesn’t mean that the macro should be jettisoned. This does not mean that reality as experienced by humans is a social construct rather than an objective reality.

Gender is a pure social construct. There is no objective reality beyond the historically and cultural idea.

Sex is an objective reality even if that reality gets messy at the extremes. Socially constructed gender identity doesn’t trump objective sex reality to gain access to women only spaces. Surgery or hormones do not change biologically determined sex reality.

I think we need to ask why men who identify as women hate women. I say this as someone who as a young woman researched the community some decades ago. I was given an ‘in’ by a friend but was met with hostility as a biological woman who could wear 501’s and t shirt who didn’t have to make the effort to pass. I wrote my dissertation on the irony of the trans culture being the last bastion of a notion of accepted feminity whilst biological women were experiencing the freedom of casting aside cultural notions of feminity of dressing or presenting in a certain sexualised way.

Why is trans hatred with its rape and death threats only directed towards women?

Why is it that when threat against trans people never mentions that that threat or reality of rape or violence or murder comes from men? Or considers the danger to sex workers irrespective of sex/gender identity from male clients.

Irrational hatred hits the same whether the man is wearing trousers or a dress. But it’s a mindfuck when the man is wearing a dress and says he’s more of a woman than you’ll ever be because he conforms to a view of feminity you have rejected.

I wonder if the string of numbers is using very familiar and silly arguments and gotchas because it isn't actually a person, and we are once again training AI tech. Tech doesn't understand sex, and human perceptions of all those micro-cluee to sex, and reproduction and how it shapes us, because it itself is not human.

I agree that gender beliefs are closer to religion than science, but to use a complex and not generally accurately represented doctrine from one religious denomination as the not very on-the-point punchline of a joke in the most religiously significant week of that religion's year was inappropriate.

@PocketSand because it's a misogynistic men's rights movement that has weaponised 'woman' with the aim of damaging women. Some TRAs know this and exploit it, others are easily susceptible (including an awful lot of women) and just get caught up in the misogyny. The far left (I'm a member of the Labour Party and I see a lot of it) is the worst. GI enables 'progresive' left-wing men to belittle, distress, make fun of and exploit women while masquearading as being liberal.

Sorry Kuc, but it's a recurrent expression of religious bigotry and it annoys me. One of the last bastions of English anti-Catholicism. Unthinking prejudice, that comes out of the same box as misogyny and racism, but that still seems acceptable to some people who should know better.

Only the "male entitlement" from that list could be called gender stereotyping.

Women should not need to police their spaces. Decent men do not invade or colonise women's spaces, as others have pointed out. No-one needs to pull my pants down, because I only use the spaces that are for my sex. I assume you do the same? If everyone did, there would be no need for anyone to be challenged.

Usually I, a not particularly perceptive person, can tell a man from a woman at 200 yards if they're walking. In pictures, I don't find it so easy. But in real life it's rarely difficult. My trans identified son is instantly obvious to anyone who is observing at all closely.

I saw a young person on the street at a distance earlier, with long hair and the kind of androgynous, classically beautiful face you get in high fashion shoots. Wondered briefly if they were a man or a woman. The crowd parted and I saw them full length and walking. Clearly a man. Not presenting as a woman or anything, just a young, long-haired, classically beautiful man. Became more obvious the closer he got.
