Aren’t the front pages and headlines glorious!

I know there is a fair amount of bandwagon jumping, but it feels like the newspapers have finally read the room and realised that the SC ruling is welcomed by FAR more people than it disappoints. And so the front pages have smiling faces and headlines that would never have been published before.

Even, for example, the Metro which has had a pretty shocking record before has a pretty clear headline and a picture of smiling women.

Front pages of The Times and the Daily Mail for 17 April

Newspaper headlines: 'Victory for women' and 'equity policies in chaos'

Thursday's front pages lead on the Supreme Court's ruling that a woman is defined by biological sex under equalities law.

That the Daily Mail is hardly a supporter of women's rights and they have their own reasons for supporting this and they may be your friends now but I wouldn't trust them as far as you can throw them. I'm making no judgements on the court ruling. The court interpreted the law as it stands.

Yes, but every paper is reporting on this item of news. Why wouldn't the DM report on it?
And do you really think that the women on this board need to have the British media and their political slants explained to them?

OneGreatReader · 20/04/2025 08:13

Yes - raped!

The word ''raped" precisely captures the feeling that I felt when I heard about the courts decision as it exactly captures the feeling of my self-autonomy being taken away from me by force just like it did when I was raped.

Given that a bunch of people have been lauding the DM for their support of the cause...yup. Seems like they do.

Telling women what news sources they should or shouldn't read isn't really feminist either. Maybe if the Guardian and the BBC wouldn't be so biased we wouldn't need other outlets to report factually on this topic.
The SNP was pretty fond of Hitler back in the time, funny how that is never brought up by the people who berate women for linking to DM articles.

I'm not telling anyone what to read. I'm pointing out that it should be read with a grain of salt.

I don't think comparing a political party with a newspaper is particularly apposite.

Have you ever attended group therapy sessions at a recovery centre for people who have been abused?

If you have, you might be aware that the type of experience that you described in your post is not unusual. Such experiences are relatively commonplace in the stories of survivors of abuse - those of both male survivors and female survivors - especially if the abuse took place when the person was a child. Often the trauma resulting from the secondary emotional abuse is worse than the trauma resulting from the primary abuse. It is tragic I agree, but certainly not an experience that is unique to women.

From what you've said I'd expect you to support the ruling, which means that women should be less likely in future to suffer this secondary abuse.

How will the SC Ruling take away your self autonomy? What is it that you were free to do before the ruling that you won't be doing now?

SinnerBoy · 20/04/2025 08:39

I feel that this bears repetition:

BiologicalRobot · 17/04/2025 13:27

Nobody, absolutely nobody, is in the wilderness. This ruling hasn't given or taken away anything but has just clarified what the law is and always has been.

Plenty of people in responsible positions have broken the law in detriment to women and girls. Why aren't you outraged at that instead?

OldCrone · 20/04/2025 08:39

TheSouthTonight · 20/04/2025 07:13

Worth reminding you all that the Daily Mail as well as supporting various worthy causes, was also pretty pro-Hitler in the 1930s and isn't exactly anti-Trump now. And neither of them were/are that keen on women's rights...

Why do you keep banging on about the Daily Mail? I can't see a single link to that paper in this thread. Lots to the Times, a few to the Telegraph and even one or two to the Guardian and BBC.

KnottyAuty · 20/04/2025 08:44

OneGreatReader · 20/04/2025 05:21

Why are you so outraged?

Do you think that biological women are the only people who get raped ?

Do you think their resulting trauma is greater than everyone else's?

It is a tragedy when anybody gets raped or abused. It does not matter what the type of abuse is - whether the abuse is sexual, physical, emotional, spiritual, ritual or any other type of abuse. All victims of abuse are left traumatised and each and every one deserves our empathy.

I totally agree with you

Unfortunately, this post was in reply to a pp who said that people “feel like they’ve been raped”. This was in response to hearing the SC judgement. There was no actual rape, or physical threat (unlike the death threats that FWS are currently living with). So it was hyperbole and in poor taste. Those who have been sexually assaulted or raped would find this assertion intolerable.

Get it now?

KnottyAuty · 20/04/2025 08:49

Thanks for posting this. I saw Susan Smith post this on another thread. People should realise that there are Trans Terrorists within the wider trans movement which should be condemned. It’s been allowed to continue for too long.

Given that a bunch of people have been lauding the DM for their support of the cause...yup. Seems like they do.

TBH when the main stream media has been suppressing or distorting stories so that most of the population are not aware of how much trans ideology has been embedded into public policy by stealth (and mid-sold) then people are angry about the lack of transparency. In that climate there’s generally relief when any paper posts basic facts - there’s discussion on this thread or another about how the BBC has just not covered the SC ruling at all. I was a guardian reader but they’ve been hopeless on this and unable to cover both sides of this important debate in an even handed way. So if both my natural media sources won’t give information I’m stuck with the DM which is uncomfortable for me for sure.

But gender isn’t a political party issue - there’s best coverage is coming from the Communists and the Morning Star. So get your head around that: Right Wing Bigots = Communists. Just like 2+2=5 and We have always been at War with Eastasia.

Lastly you do realise this thread title is Satire don’t you?

Well thank you for that. I’d never have managed that analysis by myself. Being a mother never means that we are underestimated or patronised.

You brought up Hitler. Why do you have a problem with someone giving you an alternative example to you point?

You must have missed the bit where I said that I have been ( physically) raped. I was not using hyperbole as there was no exaggeration. The physical sensation upon hearing the ruling and when I was physically raped as a child were exactly the same. That same horrible stomach churning, vertigo inducing, brain freezing, feeling in the pit of the stomach. The word 'raped' therefore was not in poor taste as anyone who has been actually sexually assaulted or raped would know exactly how I felt and hopefully be able to empathise.

true colours showing. You crack on. It’s great that readers get to fully see the depth and breadth of your empathy vacuum for women

Why are you so upset at this ruling? How does it negatively affect you? Trans people are still protected by the Equality Act. The GRA hasn't been changed. This ruling is all about protection for women. In what way does protecting women cause you harm?

That must have been horrible for you.
but if you felt that, presumably you would understand that if the judgment had gone the other way many, many women would have felt the same but in their case directly linked to the trauma of their own rape?
