Thank you, I think I get what you mean. They've done a good job of twisting the outcome.
Can anyone explain the apparent association between FWS and anti abortion Christians? Total bollocks also, right? I have to confess like others on this thread I have only recently found myself invested in this movement so am very naive about it's background etc. I'd hate to be associated with anything that's anti abortion, right wing etc - but I see no indication that FWS are either of those things?

You're right, there's no association between the likes of FWS and extreme right wing/ religious fundamentalists etc. It's just 'What They Do' to try to discredit women who believe in what science says about human sex - binary and immutable.

As is often pointed out here, most [not all obvs] of the supporters of women's rights come from what would in the past have been considered a 'left' position - trade unionists, human rights campaigners etc. and are now astonished to find ourselves linked to the extreme right, and allegedly being funded by US-based extreme Christian fundamentalist right-wing groups.

In fact, one of the several running jokes on here that we are wondering where our cheques from US-based extreme Christian fundamentalist right-wing groups have got to because we still haven't received any and they could come in handy...😃

The most recent manifestation of it is that we are all Trump supporting transphobe bigots, because he issued some Executive Orders which happen to agree that human sex is binary and immutable🙄

I hope that is a fair summary!
Enjoy the day🍾

The really good thing is that we have discovered today that there is liberal alternative to TWAW and to Trump

Now the interpretation is clear we can say the EA is a great piece of legislation. It protects trans people from discrimination but also protects single sex spaces.

Yddraigoldragon · 16/04/2025 12:02

It will be interesting to see how this plays out in Wales, our gov is firmly TWAW and rewrote all policies accordingly….

Plaid Cymru are going to have a fit and a half, they've already rejected Cass. They'll use it to claim it's all the more reason why Wales should have independence and so it can have control over making it's own laws.

CarefulN0w · 16/04/2025 12:10

Listening to times radio. There is a guy from a GI group very patiently explaining that sex and gender are different and that gender identity is protected in the EA. As TERFs might have said. I am enjoying this.

hahahaha.

Oh, the Schadenfreude.

PottedPerennial · 16/04/2025 12:12

NeedToChangeName · 16/04/2025 11:52

Yes........ but employers don't have a completely free rein eg to decide whether to offer single sex toilets, as that's a legal obligation https://sex-matters.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/01/Briefing-for-employers-on-workplace-toilets.pdf

So (1) employers will require to provide single sex toilets and (2) transwomen not permitted to use female toilets, as they're not biological women

Edited

Oh I really hope this helps @suladoyle! Can't see how it wouldn't, frankly. 😁

Can he very patiently explain wtf gender actually is, while he's at it?

Bet he can't.

If I was NHS Fife I'd be hunting in the cupboard for a very long ladder to climb down.

Will this impact the next part of the Sandy Peggie case? I mean the law hasn't changed, but will this ruling weaken NHS Fife's arguments?

CriticalCondition · 16/04/2025 12:13

Just heard on the BBC that Munroe Bergdorf is going to be speaking to lawyers about this. 😆

Thank you! This is why I love mumsnet - I feel like every week I am realising more and more how we have all been gaslit and shouted down. I now know I don't need to be ashamed of my opinions on the trans movement.

Enjoy your day too - fantastic news.

Wait until he finds out that the Supreme Court judges are the biggest and most badass lawyers in the country.

Yep it means he can no longer be called Women's Champion, the Utter Nutters will have to appoint a biological women to the role. 😂

You certainly don’t represent my feminist views and give gc women a bad reputation by peddling this racism

Chariothorses · 16/04/2025 12:18

The Labour party need to act to regain women's trust.
Keir Starmer isn't the only MP to lie or who wants to remove the human rights / bodily privacy of women as a sex. David Lammy also said women 'who want to deny males access to women's spaces are 'dinosaurs who want to hoard rights', Alex Sobel said he did NOT agree that women should have single sex spaces where undressed ie hospital wards , refuges etc.
Lisa Nandy said male rapists ' are women' and should be in women's prisons. Emily Thornberry said its not 'factually inaccurate' to say only women can have a cervix.
God, they are embarrassing. All because they are prepared to lie in order to treat women as 2nd class citizens in the UK.

mateysmum · 16/04/2025 12:18

@porridgecake Not a lawyer, but this ruling can only be another brick in the wall. In the face of this judgement, how can you argue as NHS Fife has done that they had no choice but to allow a male without a GRC in to a women's changing room

It's not racism, Multi Culturalism is bad for women, always has been always will be.

Supreme court ruling

And should put a stop to company policies that state “use the facilities that best match your gender” kind of thing

Surely they need to explain what each gender looks like before someone can figure out what toilets match theirs?

This was the law at the time of what happened. So yes it has ramifications potentially.

Anyone know if The Famous Artist Birdy Rose is on here?
It seems like exactly the sort of thing she would print on a T shirt.

RedToothBrush · 16/04/2025 12:20

Indeed. This has been the law since 2010 so it potentially has ramifications for any decision made in the last 15 years which conflicts with it.

Pluvia · 16/04/2025 12:22

What a relief. We were right. They were wrong. Enduring love, respect and thanks to FWS and all behind them. You have been amazing and you will go down in history.

Now...
Scrap Stonewall and remove Ruth Hunt from the HoL.
Tell the Welsh government that their LGBTQ+ action plan is illegal.
Go to all the MPs and MSs and MSPs who've let women down so badly and tell them in person what we think of them.
Ask how Lady Haldane got the law so wrong.
Defund the BBC: I was forced to watch the judgment on the BBC and the immediate response of the commentators was to talk for 15 minutes about how transpeople were the most vulnerable and needed tons of support. The tone was shock that the court could have been so unkind and how horrid this would be for all the delicate trans flowers.

And a thousand other things I've forgotten right now.

I'm thinking of all my terfy contacts in Australia and New Zealand and Canada and sending them hope and courage. Their legal system is based on ours and I hope their courts will be sitting up and listening to this judgment and will amend in line (as with Cass around the world) so that the women there don't have to go the long route FWS have been forced along. Thinking particularly of Sall Grover, trapped in Tickle hell. Surely this ruling's reverberations will help her?

SigourneyHoward · 16/04/2025 12:23

NHS Fife have ‘noted the clarity’ and are ‘carefully considering judgement and implications’

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 16/04/2025 12:24

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 16/04/2025 12:22

Indeed. This has been the law since 2010 so it potentially has ramifications for any decision made in the last 15 years which conflicts with it.

Including potentially for Sarah Summers' case against the Survivors Network. I think it potentially means that rape crisis organisations cannot describe a service as single sex if it includes trans people on the basis of their gender identity rather than their sex.
