Do you wear anything like a badge, scarf etc or carry anything (such as a key ring or visible sticker on something) that signals your terfiness?

I was thinking of making something in suffragette colours to wear or use but just looking for ideas.

Are you French, @frenchnoodle ? Asking because I'm aware that some aspects of French feminism are different to the British/ American/ Australian version that I'm more familiar with.

Yes, but lived in England over 20 years now.

I think we just all got off on the wrong foot and I came in a bit too confrontational. Especially towards your first post, so sorry for that.

Tired of explaining reality to fuckwits is the best acronym imho

IdyllicLandscape · 24/03/2025 11:36

I've just found this on Etsy and love it. A subtle suffrage coloured, educated with (feminist) books, rights hoarding dinosaur. www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1151105163/dino-book-reader-enamel-pin-badge-brooch

Pratincole · 24/03/2025 11:40

OK, I am going to be that woman. Violet as a descriptor of colour is not much used these days, purple often standing in for it, but violet is the suffragette colour - green, white, violet - give women the vote!

Ah, yes. Who says TERF has to mean Trans-Exclusionary-Radical-Feminists anyway?

Oh WOW! I never knew that’s where those colours came from, that’s fascinating.

as I understand the broad expression I would count as a TERF but I'm not going to wear some bloody badge or wave a flag for expressing my fundamental views and based on an ill defined slur. Plus you are at serious risk of some angry man thing punching you in the face because you've offended their rights.

Wasn't anyone who thought JK Rowling spoke some sense when she first came out with her letter labelled a TERF? And then mobs of angry activists called for the decapitation of all TERFs. FFS....

That's gracious of you, @frenchnoodle I've been in this game for what feels like a thousand years and so I tend to respond very firmly to anything that seems like obfuscation or an attempt to muddy or confuse things.

That’s why I want my signal to be subtle but I think it IS important to have a way to signal to other women on this subject. It could make a massive difference to someone who’s feeling isolated and afraid to speak.

I’m not going to wear anything because I hate flag waving and virtue signaling. TRAs with their awful flags and banners send the message that they’re so unconfident with their cause that they have to use ways to get people’s attention. I’m much more likely to take the opinion of an undecorated person seriously.

Shufflebumnessie · 24/03/2025 12:15

I have this scarf. I wear it most days throughout the winter.
It was bought for me by my lovely MiL & I adore it!

ladymalfoy45 · 24/03/2025 12:35

I have a Suffragette jewelry collection sourced from The Museum Selection.
I also have two scarves.
The school librarian ( male) fanged me against a wall a shouted in my face about being a terf and bigot when I wore my silk one ,one day. All on camera.
Turns out the school had need just one more piece of evidence to boot the chap.
He'd been advising autistic pupils that they might consider transitioning if they felt 'wrong' in their bodies.
Parents had complained but his view was valid and still is under current legislation.
Physically assaulting a member of staff isn't.
I think the fact he spaffed 2k on TQ+ books didn't help either.
We still get lads shouting 'Im a lady!' trying to get into the girls loos .
The upshot of the shady librarian ( Giles would be disgusted) was I'd triggered him because if my scarf.
Yes, but I'm also a Doctor Who fan, saw the scarf in an episode and bought one.
He decided to try and make an example of me and got himself sacked.
My scarf served a duel purpose that day. Standing up to bullies and supporting women and girls.
Buy jewelry, buy clothing and remember you're standing on the shoulders of giants.

@ladymalfoy45, and this is why it’s clear that GI is at best a man’s rights movement, and at worst an anti-women movement. So sorry you went through that - but as you say, excellent result.

TwoLoonsAndASprout · 24/03/2025 10:17

Also! Do you think we could persuade The Famous Artist Birdy Rose to make some of her designs as enamel badges? Because i’m not quite ready for T-shirt level attention, but her artwork would look fab as a pin on a lapel or a bag…

She does do it on a bag! I make sure the picture faces outwards whenever I use it.Grin

I have some antique suffrage jewellery. I’ve been asked by some younger friends not to wear it.

Wtf!! Do they know what it means?!! They don't want women's rights then?!

MrsKeats · 24/03/2025 13:40

frenchnoodle · 24/03/2025 07:50

I doubt many people here consider themselves terfs, especially as it's a slur.

Edited

Err I am a terf thanks v much!

Grammarnut · 24/03/2025 14:00

frenchnoodle · 24/03/2025 10:46

The word Feminism excludes men. The "Exclusionary" in terf is not needed, feminism covers it just fine.

I just feel we need to remember how much effort was put in to getting it recognised as an actual slur.

Edited

I think we are on the same side, but I am not sure I get you here.

DeanElderberry · 24/03/2025 14:53

'terf' always annoys me because my care for women includes transmen, wrongheaded though some of them they may be. All women, including transmen, need to have their rights and freedoms guarded.

BadBerlin · 24/03/2025 14:58

Pluvia · 24/03/2025 10:21

Why wouldn't you include all females in your feminism? Would you include men who identify as women? As Cass found, transmen are likely to be ND, lesbians, victims of sexual abuse and neglect and other co-morbidities and thus potentially more vulnerable to the lure of gender ideology.

I try to stand by Andrea Dworkin's definition.
Feminism is a political practice of fighting male supremacy on behalf of women as a class, including all the women you don't like, including all the women you don't want to be around, including all the women who use to be your best friends whom you don't want anything to do with any more. It doesn't matter who the individual women are.

Obviously it makes feminism more difficult and messy and hard when one includes women who are in denial of their sex. In my lesbian circles we struggle with how to include the lesbians who identify as men but still want to attend lesbian-only events — but we struggle and include those women where we can, because they are women, even if we don't agree on anything.

Edited

I'm not sure if you misread my post or you're agreeing with me Pluvia.

But no, TIMs can't be feminists. No males can.

I fully subscribe to Dworkins 'fighting for all females', even the ones who try to self-exclude.

Agree it must make things tricky. But it begs the question if it's so important to be perceived by all around you 'as a man', why does a transman even want to come to an all-woman event?! Or are they seeking validation through exclusion?

DeanElderberry · 24/03/2025 15:07

I think some of them are what used to be referred to as 'attention-seeking nitwits'. But even so, if, they're female, there are specifically female rights that they can draw on. In some cases that might come with a side order of telling them what you think of the whole gender thing. If they don't like that, then let them look elsewhere for support.

I second this. I have a lovely enamel AHF badge from here. Lots of pins, scarfs, t-shirts, mugs, pens, and everything else you could want. All helping to fund the cause. KJK deserves plenty of support and buying her merch is the best way to help.

I have a Harry Potter lego keyrings and two sets of dino earrings. I also have a dino necklace.

And I'm deffo a TERF. Tired of Explaining Reality to Fuckwits sums it up tbh.

I am seeing Helen Joyce next week in Oxford and am wondering how many dinosaur things I can possibly wear on my person.
