FFS. What is different now? It's not as if they weren't told over and over again what the consequences would be. 🙄

It’s absolutely shocking. I lay a lot of the blame for Labour’s position on Pam Duncan-Glancy. Speaking from personal experience, she appeared to drive much of the party’s direction on the bill and had no interest in properly listening to those of us who had very valid concerns.

just adding this - Tess White bringing up SSS at the Scottish government.

Well well well. 4.31 of reverse weaseling.

if only somebody, somewhere, somehow had in any way even slightly intimated that the GRR Bill might, just might, be in conflict with the Equality Act, none of this ...unpleasantness would have happened and we would of course have staunchly defended single sex spaces based on biological sex.😇
But nobody ever said anything about it, so how were we to know...?
😡

No, it didn't occur to anyone at all. Everyone is completely astonished by the completely unpredictable turn of events.

MarieDeGournay · 18/02/2025 15:06

Here's a useful acronym, 'going forward' - SSSBOBS!😄

What is different now? What do they know now that they didn't know then?

That gender identity ideology and its effects are hugely unpopular and their support for it makes them look bad.

Of course, as above, they would have known that then if they'd listened for 30 seconds.

Excellent! I thought they were going to get away with trying to block any discussion of this at Holyrood today.

Golden bridges, folks. We know it's only Trump and the threat of Farage but it's still an improvement.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 18/02/2025 15:17

I need to go through my emails at the time and remind them of what they replied when I laid out for them what the GRR entailed.

Fuck me, that's quite the U-y. Do they think we don't have a collective memory?

Yep, was just going to say the same.
Although for some reason I keep wanting to call it a Rainbow Bridge
Why would that be I wonder?

Meant to quote this one.

I expect it’s cos women were saying it. Somehow our voices seem unable to penetrate the tone deafness of the right side of history 🤔🤔

SlipperyLizard · 18/02/2025 15:27

The Scottish Labour Party seem to have taken a lot about the GRR “at face value” rather than listening to the clearly expressed and very valid concerns being raised by women’s groups.

I’m glad they’ve u-turned so comprehensively, but they have totally be-clowned themselves in the process.

GargoylesofBeelzebub · 18/02/2025 15:30

It's a shame Keir has fucked up Scottish Labour's chances so badly, as at one point it was looking like Labour might be the largest party in Scotland at the 2026 elections.

Instead still looking like the SNP will be largest. I cannot see them turning around on this issue.

Exactly. Knowing now that there'll be more votes on the other side.

I wonder if it's that supercilious, sneering man telling a nurse I'm a biological woman and there's nothing you can do about me being in here.

It's another Isla Bryson moment. Just another man taking advantage of women's spaces.

Fuck me, what were the chances?

(Sorry fire, pants, balls)

rogdmum · 18/02/2025 15:41

I think whether or not someone wants to open up a “golden bridge” to anyone or any party is entirely up to them. Personal experiences and direct personal impact will vary.

Kendodd · 18/02/2025 15:44

This is good news.
Politicians make mistakes and get things wrong and the public should allow them to U-turn as more evidence comes to light or a policy isn't working. The fact the public is so unforgiving is the reason we get stuck with policy that isn't working and the reason we are stuck with shit like Brexit.
Politicians, just like everyone else, need a ladder to climb down sometimes.
I say again, this is good news.

Absolutely, Isla pushed it so far. But many don't really care about prisoners because it's not them, most of us have never been in prison or know a prisoner.

But everyone knows a nurse or two. Even if you don't know them personally you've come into contact with them.

Easy to picture your nurse friends being made uncomfortable.
