Maybe the - MN is so transphobic but I still continue to view and post here - posters could start by listing all examples of transphobia and we can work back from there?

Edited

Yes, a list of examples would be very helpful. This thread is long on accusations of transphobia and completely short on any kind of evidence.
As usual.
And for the poster who found someone else rude, that's not transphobic either. Mumsnet can be blunt. Posters are expected to actually provide arguments to back up their positions.
If I just plopped onto a thread with unevidenced accusations and then just doubled down when challenged, I'd expect to have my arse handed to me. That applies to everyone, trans or not.
It's one of the great things about MN. There's always been robust discussion.

D'you know, I'm still not entirely sure.

As far as I can make out, I think there may have been a thread on which some posters said she was 'virtue signalling'?

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-12892891/labour-mp-dawn-butler-mumsnet-met-police-brianna-ghey-murder-trial-verdict.html

Anyway, she reported the site to the Met on X.

Were we supposed to be worried because Butler got uppity? 😅

@StickItInTheFamilyAlbum Think it's common knowledge that the litter tray is notoriously transphobic and you can't move in the gardening section for anti trans rhetoric.

Oh god yes. All cats are terfs.

Although I have heard of a few kittens whose sex was wrongly assigned at birth so maybe someone should have asked them their pronouns.

JeremiahBullfrog · 08/02/2025 19:30

Good evening, I am a sane and normal person. Here is a list I have made of my enemies.

ghostyslovesheets · 08/02/2025 19:35

I don’t think it’s transphobic to want people raised with male privilege to stop telling us what being a woman is - or telling us to shut up if we have genuine concerns about women’s health and safety.

Is Dawn Butler the MP who said that 90% of giraffes are gay?

mzdemeanour · 08/02/2025 19:41

@Totallymessed and I seem to recall, that babies are born without a sex ...

Particularly when some of them seem to think the biggest thing women have to worry about is what pretty dress to wear or how to style our hair.

Why are you being rude to me?

I haven’t been rude to anyone.

I'm sorry, I meant to be terse but not rude. I just thought that encountering a post which isn't to one's liking shouldn't form the basis for judging a whole website.
But please accept my apologies, I really didn't intend to be rude. In fact, given what I've been arguing about FWR all along, I'd be shooting myself in the foot if I was intentionally rude, wouldn't I?Smile

Please don’t call a black woman “uppity”.

No worries. lol

I understand.

Thank you.
I agree with you about 'uppity', I'd avoid using it about a Black person, because I know it has a long and ugly history, though that might be clearer to people in the US than on this side of the Atlantic.

Dawn Butler was rather silly in thinking the Met would come and nick us all.
However, calling a black woman uppity is very offensive and not something I've seen anyone who is a regular poster on FWR ever use.

I don't recognize your name. Please don't use that word about her.

MarieDeGournay · 08/02/2025 19:54

Dandylyons · 08/02/2025 19:50

Why not?

It's a word that has a deeper resonance in the US, but even though I'm not from there, I'm aware of how it was used historically, and if it was used about a Black person, things frequently ended up badly for them...like fatally.
So I give it a miss, because of its associations.

I've never heard of that and neither Dawn Butler or myself are in the US so I don't see how it's relevant.

Mumsnet IS mainly transphobic though. It is not a site I would advise anyone with trans related issues to turn to.

It’s a watchful waiting site. It is not transphobic.

Years ago, C4's Inclusion Consultant, Sue Pascoe, reported WPUK and We Need to Talk to Prevent (anti-terrorism unit).

Then again, an 11 year-old who struggled with his homework was reported to Prevent's counter-radicalisation programme, so it feels meaningless and performative. (I'd be very pleased if there's been an evidence-based evaluation that demonstrates it's transformative, helpful, and excellent value for money.)

Just so I understand, you're completely discounting the needs of transwidows and transorphans who've found it very helpful to gather on FWR and exchange their experiences?

myplace · 08/02/2025 20:24

<waving to @changedusernameforthis1 > glad you have had a decent experience. I’ve seen many threads where trans people have engaged in robust yet calm conversations here.
The occasional pause to step away when things get intense is always respected- and offered.

Hmmm. Respecting space and breaks isn't something I've witnessed. It's usually whooping and cries of "She can't answer!" From multiple posters of questions aren't immediately answered.

@Theeyeballsinthesky Unsurprisingly women who’ve spent their lives trying to get out of being stereotyped because of their sex are not sympathetic to men who think having long hair & wearing a dress makes them exactly the same as actual women.

Spot on. I remember Caitlin Jenner saying something along the lines of the hardest part of being a woman is deciding what outfit to wear each day. 🙄 I read that and was like yay, well done you. You're one of us and you really get it!

I occasionally wear a skirt and make up, but it's not nearly as fun as when I was younger, and when the result of the dress-up effort was looking hot and sexy.

Now older, with hot and sexy not an option, I wear the same thing every single day. Jeans, trainers and a top. No make up. I can see how this wouldn't do the trick for a trans-'woman'. They have to put on makeup and dress carefully to live the fantasy. And Jenner thinks it's what we all do, that we all care about looking feminine, but he's wrong.

I've read of some trans-'women' saying they worry about being an ugly woman after they 'transition'. That's the sort of thing a man would worry about. Because we all know, all real women are fuckable.

I bet a white Christian boy would have been made to stand outside the headteacher's office for that comment, not reported to Prevent.
