Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

I think males should be banned from female sport and anyone should be allowed to enter the male / open category. The US President has just signed an executive order saying this.

Females need their own sports for reasons of fairness, competitiveness and safety. I am glad that orders like this make it easier to talk about these issues without being called a biggot.

Everyone deserves fair opportunities, women and girls are under represented in sport, this can only help that get a little better.

Transgender sports people also clearly deserve opportunities to participate in sport and so trans women and men should be allowed to enter male / open categories or have their own categories if needed.

But what about all the women losing out on their opportunities here? You don't care about them?

And was is 'persecuting' about telling people they can compete in their own sex class - like everybody else?

They never seem to care about transmen either. I wonder what the common factor might be?

Populists have simple answers for complex problems. They are not often able to deliver on their promises though. And it's 'bigot'.

Ah but you forgot that trans people must get extra rights and privileges. Being treated equally and the same as everyone else just won't do.

Just what is so very complicated about biological men competing against biological men - and leaving women's categories alone?

No Executive Order that I can find on abortion rights.

Which are dealt with at state level, a situation which persisted throughout Democratic presidencies and which the Democrats made no attempt to alter.

Incidentally, at the same time as the Presidential election (and others) there were ballots on abortion rights in 10 states - and the measures passed in 7 of them.

Including Arizona, Missouri, Nevada and Montana, which Trump won.

Because the judges who overturned Roe v. Wade are still sitting in the Supreme Court. That's why Trump appointed them.

Well, no. Because primarily trans sportspeople aren't just dressing as the opposite sex but are in the process of transitioning, if not already fully completed. So it's not a level playing field from any perspective really.

Humans cant change sex - surely you know that?

They might be changing the legal gender on their paperwork.

They might be taking hormones or even having surgery to change their bodies in certain ways.

But neither of these are the same as changing sex. You cant change from being a human who is of the sex that produces one type of gametes to being a human from the sex that produces the other type of garments. That’s impossible.

how very cowardly.

Trans women are women

Lia Thomas (a man who identified as a woman) moved from 65th on the men's team to 1st on the women's team in the 500-yard freestyle. He also moved from 554th on the men's team to 5th on the women's team in the 200-yard freestyle.

Astonishing that he did so much better in the women's competition. Could it be that he had an unfair advantage?

The "open" category is the only one that should exist. Everyone should compete together. Sport is a meritocracy, people should be grouped on ability. There are plenty of female athletes who are better than some men who play the same sport.

Really?

My childhood best friend and I are both equally shit at rugby. Should we play against each other? Or even on the same team?

He's over a foot taller than me and weighs quite a lot more. But abilty wise we are probably a match.

Alas not on Mumsnet. The transphobia is strong in here.

You are surprised that on mumsnet people can tell the difference between men and women?

Ask your mum, I bet she knows too.

Don't forget school sports. Denying the right of an adult man to play against toddlers is transphobic.

I understand that men are starting to identify as disabled too for the Paralympics.
